Been a silent reader for the last 3 threads. Haha. I joined the Note 8 family as well last week. Mine is roadshow set. I reached Pavillion mall around 10am. Surprisingly found out that I was still able to become one of the first 100 customers. I guess the hype was not that hot compared to S7 edge? Joined the Korea celebrity case-signing event bandwagon as well like bro xisan, eventhough I am not a superfan of her. At first the staff also warned me that no camera & selfie shoot allowed. But I saw some people before me didn't care and they took the selfie shot with her successfully. So I thought why not? So I also took the photo with her, for 2017 memories. I guess eventhough the Samsung staff didn't agree, they couldn't do anything at all if the celebrity herself agreed to take the selfie. LOL.

Coming from S8 plus (already sold), on the spec sheet, Note 8 indeed is no different with S8/S8 plus. But the user experience of both are not on the same level. Note 8 is faster & smoother (thanks to the 7.1.1 & Samsung experience 8.5 ?). Sound is louder. The screen color & brightness is slightly better. Camera performance is slightly better due to the extra feature of dual lens. And the S Pen! Oh boy. It's much better compared to Note 5 (ex-Note 5 user btw). The pen body structure and its color is kind of dull though compared to last 2 generations. Too much plastic feel. LOL.

I am satisfied with the battery life. No PDP/BK disabler apk. No gaming. Brightness 40%. Only browsing internet, whatsapp, calling & a little bit of youtube & music. Wifi (70%) + Data (30%). SOT can reach 7-8 hours every circle. Of course, it's slightly weaker compared to S8 plus. But they have no choice but to sacrifice it for the S-Pen user space, which I think it's worthy. It is what it is. No complaint here.

This was the first time I joined Samsung roadshow. It's kind of boring. But at least they keep it in order and everyone got what they want. The fans met with their idol and the customers got their phones with freebies. Only one complaint. They didn't have maple gold color in stock and they didn't tell the people in advance. Some people were disappointed because they came specifically for the gold color. Samsung reaaly need to improve their publicity department. They should take the effort to inform the people early. Fortunately, nothing bad happened. People were being patient and they accepted the other color.

My rating to this roadshow event, not so good, but not too bad either due to the bonus of taking selfie with the celebrity. Better than last time where Lee Kwang-soo who just came and left afterwards. No individual closed-up with the fans. LOL.

Last saturday I went to KLCC SES branch and looked for LED view cover. But they said all the Note 8 covers are out of stock, except for alcantara case. They also claimed that other branches are also facing the same problem. At the end, I went to the Samsung shop at Avenue K, not sure if it's official store. Surprisingly their stock just came in. Not sure if they got the Samsung Protective Standing case as well, but I think you can try. Their stock amount seems a bit larger compared to the other branches due to the low traffic/customers amount in the mall. I think you will be able to find your case in there. Their shop is at 2nd level, near to the Popular bookshop.

I hold my phone with my left hand. And I touch the screen with my right hand finger. The phone is too tall and a bit of heavy, need both hand to handle it. LOL.

So is that means even we already disable the bixby button, the apps itself is still running in the background, right? I did go to the running service under developer option, and found out a few bixby services are still running eventhough I already disable it. So I stopped all of them. Not sure if this will help to save some battery juice...

Got blue color S-Pen in the store? Thinking of buying one for myself since I love blue.

The left is S8+, and the right is Note 8.

The font size in the right is smaller, which I think is belong to Note 8 (larger screen tends to have smaller font at default). Am I correct?

Yes. No matter which generation of Galaxy Note, the S pen issue will happen once you put the phone in a magnetic holder or magnetic flip cover. I kena once when I bought 2 maganetic flip covers for my Note 5. Money wasted.

Oh I forgot to mention this. The official cover won't affect. Samsung made those covers on their own. Of course they won't disturb your S Pen function. Only brand cap ayam magnet cover will affect.

And yes. Only one part of the screen won't work. Depends on where's the magnet spot located.

Just download another keyboard will do. You just need to remember to switch to another keyboard first before you disable the Samsung Keyboard.

Btw, just found out that if we disable bixby button from the bixby setting, the button will become power button instead. But only can switch on, cannot switch off.

May be this question was asked before. But I can't find it. Just want to ask how to check the Samsung screen protection status? Wait for their call/email, or need to call the CS to confirm? I already received the warranty msg. But nothing on the screen protection part yet.

It should be fine as long as you don't use the phone during charging while lightning strike.


No way near to Galaxy Note S-Pen experience, mainly for 2 reasons. One is the X-Pen needs to charge. Two is you cannot keep the X-Pen inside the phone. In short, it's inconvenience if your main purpose on using that phone is that X-Pen. Other than that, it should be fine. The device itself actually not bad at all. Just that you can't compare it with Samsung Galaxy Note line on the same level. Just my 2 cents.

Based on my own experience, it would only stop working when you have the phone on the magnet holder. It will be back to normal once you remove the holder.

Youtube? Sounds like you might have switched on the video enhancer. Switch it off then your brigtness will be back to normal.

S8 Oreo is in beta testing now. Note 8 no news yet. But no need worry la bro. Samsung flagship sure will have 2 major Android upgrade. Note 8 sure will have Oreo soon, and then Android P in the future.

When you bought note 4? You must have bought it after its been released for a while right? Note 4 came with kitkat. Then updated to lollipop. And then Marshmallow. 2 major updates in 2 years. Same goes to note 5 (lollipop -marshmellow - nougat). So no worry la. Our note 8 confirmed will get updates in next 2 years.

Does anyone notice that on Note 8, it's not smooth when scrolling messages/chat history on whatsapp?

I see. But if my memory serves me right, I didn't encounter such issue on my ex-S8+. All the other apps are smooth like butter on my Note 8, except whatsapp. So I suspect it's whatsapp's fault. May be they will fix it in next update. Not too sure. Anyway, I reinstalled whatsapp. So far so good. Will observe it for next few days and see if it's already fixed.

I believe you love your pixel due to the speed and smoothness, right? If you really love your pixel and already get used to the pure android experience, you may feel difficult to cope with Samsung Touchwiz/experience UI. Don't get me wrong. It's been a long way before Samsung could get this far, and their latest system UI is much faster and smoother compared to previous years. But still, there are some rooms to be improved compared to pixel.

So the choice is up to you. Stick to pure android for supreme smoothness and wait for pixel 2, or change to Samsung for variety of features and excitements. If you love simplicity, then go for pixel 2 or oneplus 5 (alternate cheaper option). If you love features and functions, go for Note 8. As for me, I love features, so I always stick to Samsung flagships because they are the expert in this area.
