Word of advise for those who want to check their children for asd, you can get professional diagnosis from your local government hospital. For free..

Yes. That's right. All you have to do is follow proper procedure.

Firstly, please bring your kid to your local KK. Hopefully, you have visited KK during your pregnancy and have your buku merah.

Let them know you are concern about asd. They will conduct initial assessment and if unable to determine, they will refer your case further to a government hospital to seek the specialist. They will write a letter of recommendation.

You take this letter of recommendation to the hospital. After registration, they will book you a date to see the doctor, and child psychologist. It is usually a 6 months waiting time.

If you are in no real hurry, i recommend you wait. It is worth your time and saves you alot of money.

So once that time comes, they will assess your kid and give you the result within a week. Asd has 3 levels. Level 1 is requiring minimal assistance. Level 2 is requiring substantial assistance & finally level 3 is serious case and probably need medication and substantial assistance to reduce effects of asd.

After assessment, you can take the report to an OT and ST of your choice and they will begin therapy for your kid. This also saves you another round of expensive assessments.

Standard OT rates are rm100 per visit. And ST rates are 200rm. Budget accordingly. More visits the better.

There will also be routine half yearly follow ups at hospital with the specialist too. Government hospital also has frequent talks about asd and i highly recommend you attend. You wont have to bring your asd kid.

Remember, to treat your asd kid normally and usually, even level 3 can drop to level 1 with proper intervention and professional therapy and parental guidance.
