So here's my experience doing Uber Ace last week.
Suey suey suey...
My goal was to hit 150 trips, but I got bogged down by personal things that needed to be taken care of. Monday was the smoothest day, did 30 trips, and average travel distance was 10km/trip (pickup distance + drop off distance). But then I couldn't sleep and woke up late the next day, so half day gone. Then the next day, got dentist appointment early in the morning. The dentist said there's a hole in my tooth, so ask me to come back tomorrow morning to fill it, because they were busy. So for Wednesday and Thursday, half the day gone again. And Wednesday was the most suey.. Kena diarrhea. Before I go out to drive, already pangsai 3 times. Then drive for a few hours, kena a long distance trip that was the worst job for my entire week. Jam like shit, took more than 1 and a half hours to complete. After drop off that passenger, I go eat dinner, then have to pangsai again... Couldn't find a clean toilet so no choice have to pangsai at the mamak restaurant's toilet. Fuck.
After pangsai for the 4th time that day, I really bo lat liao.. Drive go home. All the way home, I on Set Destination but couldn't find a single rider headed towards my destination. Worst Uber day for me so far, but still not as worse as my worst day with Grab where I got stuck in KL for hours and only earn RM50 net after minus commission and petrol. Friday achieved 27 trips which brought my total trips for the week up to 95 trips.
So left Saturday and Sunday to chase another 55 trips to make it 150. But on Saturday, when I was heading out to drive, my gf message me that her neck super pain. Haiz... So there goes my Saturday and Sunday. Took her go see doctor, then take care of her. I tried to make a last ditch effort on Sunday evening to chase 25 trips. At least if I can't get RM1850, I can get RM1350. But by 8.30pm, I only managed 9 trips. To go and chase another 16 trips before the day ended, I thought was pretty impossible. Only later on I found out that maybe I had more time than I thought to chase those 16 trips. But I didn't want to drive until the wee hours of the morning anyway, so I went home to have dinner with gf.
So yeah, only managed to get RM900. Sohai me did 14 charity trips for Uber. In fact, on Friday I could have gone home much earlier if I knew I was not going to be able to hit 120 or 150 trips. Just do 90 trips and go home.
Anyway, here's my mileage stats up to Friday, for 95 trips:
Starting mileage on Monday.
[attachmentid=9442909]
Ending mileage on Friday night.
[attachmentid=9442910]
So 11.78km/trip (pick up + drop-off) average for those 95 trips (that includes all my driving to my port and back home, as well as driving to different ports if I get thrown out of my preferred port). Best day was Monday, average about 10km/trip (pick up + drop-off). Worst day was Wednesday. Only did 8 trips. I think maybe almost 20km/trip average because I went home earlier and all the way home I couldn't get a single passenger headed in my direction. Petrol spent, RM200. Average FC was about 13km/liter. Worst day for FC was Monday actually, because I went into a kampung area on a hill and that involved a lot of uphill driving. About 12km/liter. Those wasted 14 trips I no eye see liao. But I estimate I spent an extra RM30 or so for fuel and drove roughly an extra 200km. The only good thing that came out of those wasted 14 trips was that I got to meet this American commodities trader who works for the American government. Had a really good conversation with him. One of those rare moments where I hoped a passenger's trip was longer (his destination was really nearby). I didn't know Malaysia was the 2nd largest poultry producer in the world. I always assumed other countries produced their own chickens. And if you think the Malaysian economy is doing bad right now, pray that the EU doesn't ban palm oil.
Putting all the personal stuff that got in the way aside, it was pretty smooth sailing all the way. Didn't really have any bad riders that I remember. If rider no show just cancel. If jam I'll just offline and cabut from the area after drop-off. No need to worry about online hours. But the thing about Ace is, it makes the RM3.75 cancellation fee really meaningless. You waste your time driving to the pick up location and waiting 5 minutes, but it reduces the amount of money that you would receive from Ace. Imagine if you can hit 150 trips, that's RM12.33 per trip on average. That's much more than the RM3.75 cancellation fee. And on top of that, you still need to go chase more trips to hit your target, but the incentives you get from Ace will be reduced by RM3.75 every time you have to cancel a ride after 5 minutes. So yeah, rider no shows are a huge waste of time and petrol, etc.
On the payments side, everything was finalized on Monday and the transfer process began on that day as well and money was in the bank by Tuesday evening.
Would I like to chase 150 trips with Ace again? Maybe. One disappointing thing is that I noticed Uber started becoming like Grab. Halfway through the week they started limiting the use of the Set Destination feature. Their excuse is that they want to improve the rider's experience, which I think is reasonable. But from my own experience, even in places with no Surge, sometimes I can't use Set Destination. Or times that shouldn't be busy, like past midnight, I couldn't use the feature either. So that's really bullshit. If they really want to improve the rider's experience, then what they should do is limit the ping range for Set Destination. For example, don't give drivers pings that are more than 3km away. That should work for both riders and drivers, right?
Really tiring to drive 10 to 12 hours a day (Only did this for Monday and Friday. The other days I drove around 6 to 7 hours a day. About 4 hours on Sunday before I decided to call it quits). But so much less stressful than Grab. 4 hours with Grab also like want to vomit blood already. If get bad passenger, really stress want to click cancel or not?
Anyway, chillaxing this week. It's Thursday already, too late to go chase 150 trips. If I go out to drive again, I'll probably do Grab. Urgh... Headache.. Headache.. So sad that this week is the last week of the Ace trial period. I hope Uber improves on the program, not make it worse.
AR for last week, less than 60%. CR almost 30%.
