That can't be right, I did a head ct some years back and it wasn't anywhere near that expensive, were you misquoted or something?

i don't think it costs that in government hospital...if you are Malaysian that is...probably just a few ringgit

i mean if you are scanning the whole body then it'll probably add up to 2k in the private center

spine CT probably costs about rm500 or so

like malaysianpotato said. its ct or cat scan,
its like an advanced x-ray machine where it takes the images inside the subject of interest and present them in several slices or cross sectional images.

CT scan and MRI are actually diagnostic screening..you will only need that if you're sick or suspicious..and it is damaging to the cells..

CT scan of the spine usually use for bone problem, usually in accident where Dr wants to look for fracture.

MRI of the spine usually looks for nerves prob and sometimes muscles, fat layers.

So, its base on what problems you have.

MRI does not harm ur cells, its safe. Only sometimes you may feel anxious in the machine tunnel (claustrophobia) for 15-20 min. While CT may harm ur cells, it is like X-rays ( just need more radiation to get the image).

If not mistaken, MRI in gov hosp range from 400-800 depends on which body part you scan. Private not sure, its around 800-1500 I think.

MRI or Magnetic Resonance Imaging uses magnetic field to present the images. However, the setback is that you will be given headphones with music
because when the scan begins, there will be some constant banging noises.

CT Scan or Computed Tomography Scan uses radiation to present the images but there will be not banging noises and you don't need to have the headphones. These days, with technology CT Scan have advanced tremendously where a whole body scan can be completed in one breath hold. However, this is only possible with thye 64 slice and above CT scan.

By the way, both scans require the patient to go through a gantry (doughnut shape) to allow the scan to take place. Depending on your medical condition, the doctor will advise the best scan for the patient. The doctor usually will perform a prognosis and then decides on the type of scan that the patient require and request for it.

just curious, do you have guys have the contrasts materials during the CT scan? I read from the net saying it can provide some mild discomfort and worst case, could have the metallic taste. is that true?

2ndly, i am not sure how safe is this CT Scan as it uses x-rays which are 1 of the cause of cancer. This is my 1st time and my company is having the benefit do to a medical checkup every year. So, thought of giving it a try.

CT scan can be done with or without contrast. Contrast is used to lighten up the vascular structure. Sometimes they will test your renal function prior to contrast, patient who has impaired renal function don't really tolerate contrast. If you are a healthy 20 year old, it should be fine. Some say it taste like pineapple juice....

Added on February 14, 2011, 6:24 pmyup and CT scan is definitely more hazardous in terms of radiation. However, it does provide very good anatomical details

That's only for government hospital.

I don't know...can't help you..must be very expensive. Get a doctor advice before you proceed with CT scan. Sometimes it's not necessary.Anyway, you need a doctor to interpreted the CT scan result.

Which CT scan costs less than RM100? In Mar 2017, thoracolumbar CT scan costs RM490 at gov hospital. Have to pay 20% deposit (RM100) to schedule the scan which is typically minimum 2 weeks after your doctor requested the CT, then pay remainder on the day of the scan. Then wait another 2 weeks after the scan for result to be analyzed by doctor and then you have appointment to interpret it. Above is my personal experience today because I just scheduled to get CT scan, and I wanted to check the price.

She has done a few blood test. Let me compile and send to you.
For the tumor maker, I don't have the report with me, tested on april last year. It does show increase in CA199, however ultrasound done showed fatty liver, no pancreatic tumor.

Just notice PM can't attach images, so here is it.

This is the only reports I have with me, there are few more still in clinic and with my mum at hometown. The doctor called and saying the result have no problem.
Checked for kidney, liver and heart (scan at hospital).

Im guessing

CT thorax abdomen pelvis = Rm1200-1500
CT 3 phase pancreas = Rm1200-1600

This is for private hospital at my place

Gov hospital around 200-400 cheaper but waiting time for appointment around 1-3 months

Hope this helps 😊

hi.

1. she has anemia. low hemoglobin and hypochromic type. anemia may explain the tiredness. but reduced appetite can also cause anemia.
usually caused by low iron intake or chronic and slow amount of blood lost.
i suggest blood test for ferritin and transferin. if confirm iron deficiency anemia, may need to take supplement to solve the anemia. also need to investigate possible other causes of iron deficiency anemia : stool for occult blood, perhaps a pap smear if age less than 65 years old or have blood per vagina post menopausal, if never done a colonoscopy before, should get it done.

2. i won't be worried about the raised ggt..........as ast alt normal........bilirubin also.

3. she has diabetes.........is she properly treated for it?

4. any symptoms of hypothyroidism? might need to have the t3,t4,tsh level checked.

5. ignore the tumor markers. they should never be used as screening or diagnostic tool for now.

6. CT scan is not indicated.......more harm than benefit.

if reli wanna cover whole body

Ct brain neck thorax abdomen pelvis = less than Rm2k

Well it depends... But a CT scan would reli helps to identify if anything wrong for a start 😊

not really.
a radiologist depends a lot on the input from doctors to help find things.

symptoms and previous investigation that are relevant will help radiologist to look at detail at places that need to look. only then may be able to find something.

but if vague symptoms and no proper indication for CT scan, it will most likely be a waste of time, money. radiologist will just generally look here and there.........looks about fine and will write report only.

She took jardiance for diabetes, but the doc suspect the side effects are too strong for her. She keep losing weight day by day. Since her glucose level significantly drop in a month, range around 6.2-7.2, so he stopped her from taking jardiance anymore, hopefully she can gain back some weight and strength. Still monitoring her. Stopped for about 3-4 days.

She is taking another med for diabetes. Half tablet. Not sure the name of it.

She have pass history of hyperthyroidism, but have improvement and stopped take med for it.

Still may need check for thyroid hormone.
If have history of taking radioactive iodine(one of the drugs to treat hyperthyroidism that may cause hypothyroidism).

Hypothyroidism is also one of a cause for anemia.

ive never worked in malaysia, but i noticed people do shop around for this and that. this concept really is alien to me. in any case, just be mindful not to waste money and to risk the radiation. CT uses radiation, and its quite a big dose of it to view these anatomical structures you mentioned

Hi,
Just to share my personal experience - during my regular medical check, my ultra-sound of my abdomen showed a slightly enlarged left kidney. So, I went to a urologist in UMSC (University Malaya's Specialist Centre - essentially, the private wing of UMMC) and he asked for a 4 phase CT scan of my left kidney. The cost for the scan is RM1,600 - which was rather high - I guess, the private wing of govt teaching hospitals is probably charging as high as the expensive private hospital chains in Klang valley - need to replenish the cash stolen by all the corruptions of the previous govt:(

Recently I always feel my neck feel sour (sorry i do not know the correct terminology) and area behind my ear but i do not know the reason.

The only thing i noticed is i always wake up around 5am and sleep back until 6.30am so i wonder is this the root cause?

May i know do i need to perform the CT scan for my head? I checked my blood pressure it's normal so i do not really know the reason.

Can someone please advise?

As I'm typing this,

I'm in private clinic in IJN, coz my mum just wants to get her heart checked. Guess what? CT scan here cost around RM2700++ and MRI is RM4500++.

We decided on the spot to do the CT scan, came out from the Dr's room only I ask my brother, and do my research now.

A bit regret to sign the consent form so fast, without getting any other information.

Hopefully the results are good and we don't have to come back to spend more time and money.

Anyone wants to share more? Seems like we are paying the highest here (not a competition but rather feel cut throat as we are not really a rich family).
