hi, noob question here. im "used to" be a guitar player few years back tongue.gif ,

im own a Maton electric guitar (Mastersound i think) and a marshall amp. i want to play some nu-metal now, so i try to tune my guitar to drop D or B, but i found the guitar string was loose on that tone, how did you guys tune ur string without loosing ?

Btw, im want to play the song "wait&Bleed" by slipknot now, and possibly some other numetal in Drop D or B.

issit possible my guitar to play such song ?

if not, what guitar is recommend ? im think the Ibanez RG MTM2 quite cool, can i found in KL ?

im not using a effect b4, what should i buy ?

thanks.

You need to use thicker gauge strings to downtune more, so that the strings wont be too slack.

I'm using .60 for the low strings.
Yes. .60

FYI, Mick Thomson uses a drop B tuning:
(low to high) B-Gb-B-E-Ab-Db.

If you're really into slipknot and Nu-Metal, I suggest Mick Thomson's signature Ibanez if you have the cash: http://www.ibanez.co.jp/eg_menu_2007.php?A...=1&SERIES=48#48

I'm sure Bentley can order it in for you.

Or, if you're on a budget, Try to get a decent guitar (Maybe a Les Paul like guitar or a SuperStrat design) and modify with EMG Active pickups.... or if it comes pre-installed, all the better.

Also, which Marshall amp are you using? The MG series to me does not have enough chunk for Nu-Metal.

Sad but true, I suggest the Boss Metal Zone MT-2 pedal for your primary distortion. Thick low end for a good price. http://www.bossus.com/index.asp?pg=1&tmp=5

Or even Digitech's version, called the Metal Master: http://www.digitech.com/products/metalmaster.htm
or Death Metal Pedal:
http://www.digitech.com/products/DeathMetal.htm

If you have a bigger budget, try Digitech's Dan Donegan The Weapon: http://www.digitech.com/products/weapon.htm
or the amazing Distortion Factory: http://www.digitech.com/products/DF7/DF7.htm

Hope that helps man.

Get a 7-string. Then you won't have to downtune to B... tongue.gif

And you can join the 7th Sanctuary right here in LYN... biggrin.gif thumbup.gif tongue.gif

Actually, That's very true.... but you have to learn how to play the guitar in a whole new way.

Ibanez makes some REALLY good guitars for Drop tunings..... Slipknot, Korn, all the pioneers uses Ibanez.

Actually, not really. Your power-chords will still be in the same shape and all, and the extra width of the neck adds a bit more oomph to the tone.

Ibanez makes some REALLY good 7-string guitars... tongue.gif

the signature model MTM1 was about rm7000+ and the MTM2 was around 3000 right ? (i found this online, dunno wheter true or not). im not a rich guy btw, so i think cheaper better.

any more other nice to intro on these type of guitar ? not necessary Ibanez, im type of "leisure" guitar player, so i wanted some numetal guitar which versatile and long term use.

so in order to play this kind of song, i need a guitar + pedal + amp , right ?

what is the best place to buy these thing ?

what kind of rock u playing btw ? actually im not really into some "vintage" rock (metallica, black sabbath ... some hardcore/ hard to play thingy). maybe i should join u guys and see how .... biggrin.gif

Ibanez main distributor is Bentley.
Go in there, look like you're willing to spend, and test out some of their guitars.
Oh yeah, they also have the new HM Nano Muff pedal..... REALLY brutal.

I use an Epi LP and play lots of metal. To me, PERSONALLY, the LP has a better low end and makes GREAT metal playing.... but doesn't have enough high-end sharpness like some Nu-Metal song has.

No need to be a master la... ppl won't laugh at you, they'll stand in awe of your courage and bravery in wielding the mighty 7-string beast! wink.gif laugh.gif

price of ibanez 7-string depends on the model you're looking for... I think there's an MIK or MII 7-string (RG7321?) that should be below RM2k...

Well, if your amp is already killer (like a Marshall Mode4 rclxms.gif ), you won't need much distortion effects.

In your case? Yeah.. You could benefit alot from one of the pedals I recommended.

Effects also has alot to do with a person's tone. Slipknot does use the (in)famous Digitech Whammy Pedal effect for a few songs........ So if you REALLY want to sound like slipknot, you'll need alot of spare change.

For just Nu-Metal stuff? A Decent Metal pedal and an active pickup equipt guitar would be excellent.

the signature MTM1 is bout rm5690 at bentley, went there to buy whammy pedal and check out the guitar for u..very angry looking red guitar whoa.. but if u wanna drop to a low B tune an increase of string gauge 0.056 - 0.011 should be gud.

use a tuner?

but uhh, how its done depends on the sound you want.

the only time i ever downtuned to B, was to play stuff by Carcass.
they use regular 6 strings downtuned to B standard with pretty regular gauges, so they get a more flabby sound which somehow became their trademark.

7 strings for the winner!!!!
but if you want the 6 then you may have to adjust the height and tension and also increase the gauges as they already said. . . also you need better pups or else the pups will just sound plain flabby. . .

Oh yeah. that's true.
If you're changing gauges, it's best to send it to a proper guitar tech to get the height adjusted. VERY IMPORTANT......

the thing with going t o heavier gauges, is that you can set the action lower.
so if your action is already pretty standard, dont really have to do much cept maybe to adjust the truss rod.
