Got myself a Sony KX800G. A first smart TV for me, previously using Sharp 47 LED (very old model), about 6 yrs + android box.

Short Review:
PQ wise, it is a Sony so what seen in the store is carried over to the living room. Picture wise, even with Astro looks good.
Have yet to try to watch the TV in darken room, however as this is family TV most of the time the TV will be watched in lighted area.

Watched Hellboy in 4K, very enjoyable although downloading 14GB was not fun. Another movie Dumbo still got no time to watch

Other 4K clipping is from youtube.

Definitely an upgrade from my old sharp tv.

Smart Function:
Surprisingly the UI is more fluid then my Android Box. Although with Android I expect the UI to lag in the future.

Surprisingly I cannot register new account using the TV. Register on my phone, then using the ID register on TV.

Install TeaTV, VLC and X-Plore file manager. Nothing exciting, everything works as expected.

Still thinking:
I-flix or Netflix? Plan to utilize the 1 mth free trial, but I don't think I will have time to really watch and evaluate.

Based on picture quality, I think I need an upgrade from Astro, although still need to keep the account for watching EPL.

How much did you get it for? Can Kodi be installed directly onto the TV?

Yes, kodi can be installed directly using playstore. but on this tv with my usage I don't find kodi beneficial, VLC served me well enough. May be if I used advance functions with sound system then kodi will be of use. So after install I uninstall it back since storage is small.

Thanks, good to know that.

I went and had a look at the Nanocell and QLED quality and couldn't spot any difference as far as my eyes could see.

Anyone can chip in and help? In between the LG SM8600 vs Samsung Q60R.

I am having it in a brightly lit room and the widest angle would most probably be about 4-5 sofa seats wide.

I don't seem to be able to find a comparable Sony version but if anyone have any ideas, could just leave a comment.

QLED = fancy name for LCD VA Panel.
Nanocell = fancy name for LCD IPS Panel.

Which is better? That depends on what you're looking for. QLED with VA Panels will always have better contrast ratio, deeper blacks and its sRGB coverage range is generally higher. Nanocell on the other hand excels with much better viewing angles, LG's image processing (for upscaling) is also IMO generally better than Samsung's.

That said, QLED spans the entire range of Samsung's displays from - entry level to high end. Nanocell really only spans LG's entry and mid-range displays. It's a little tricky to compare them in an apples-to-apples comparison.

Thanks for the explanation. Looks like it's down to what my eyes prefer and what my pocket can afford. Reviews from overseas seem to prefer VA panels over IPS panels. Guess I would need to go down and have another look at it myself. The problem I faced seems to be that both TVs have two different sample videos that they keep replaying over and over. Maybe I need to set them on the same video playback to compare.

BTW, if anyone is interested, it seems that reviews also put the Q60R in a bad light, so the best entry-level QLED is actually the Q75R (Q70R overseas).

Digging further into this TV hole, I found another competitor that comes with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos which is non-OLED screen -- Panasonic GX880. Almost around the same price range too.

How would this perform against the bigger names like Sony, Samsung and LG?

Malaysian market is GX800.. and based on spec sheet it is using IPS 'Super Bright Plus' panel, as opposed to VA in some international market. I've only seen one GX800 in 55" which was setup improperly which i believe didnt do the tv justice. I was considering this model to replace my Pana Plasma but decided to wait until more shops display this model. Its still relatively new and shops hardly promoting this tv.

The one I saw in SenQ was the 750 version. I copied the 880 from Panasonic Malaysia website. Anyway, I was just wondering would it be better just to get this since it comes with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos out of the box. I don't need OLED, my TV will always be in a bright room and I also do not need any wide-angle viewing.
