Finally, A Mi phone that ships with stock Android OOTB. No more waiting for Lineage ROM and the unlocking/flashing process. Plus, updates comes straight from Mountain View directly.

Camera IQ with Xiaomi devices is more miss than hit. People go for their devices not for the camera, but more for the design and affordable price point. If you care so much for IQ, better get a flagship model from other brands.

no NFC = no,

so yesteryear thing.

NFC is important.

NFC is not important, unless u r planning to use the phone to tap and pay like MaybankPay app.

same as saying camera is not important.

when android pay launch at malaysia, all cannot use.
when tng implemented, all cannot use

this is like how Singaporean iphone user suck thumb when android user can use it on MRT.
*
If you really must have NFC, then you should be looking at other phones, not this one. This is meant to be the cheapest phone preloaded with pure stock Android OOTB. This is the closest thing to Pixel without the hefty price tag.

Why so long to reach Malaysia? India support Xiaomi, Malaysia go and support Leagoo! doh.gif bangwall.gif
Anyway to those who still ponder whether to buy or not this phone, watch my all time favorite smartphone reviewer Geekyranjit for the pros and cons of the Mi A1.

Take note
1. Confirmed no fast charging
2. Confirmed LED notification only one color (white)
3. Confirmed no NFC
4. Confirmed not the fastest fingerprint lock in
5. Confirmed Android Pay will not work since no NFC
6. Confirmed at 1080p video but no electronic image stabilization and that means shaky recording
7. Confirmed no auto HDR mode
8. Camera struggle in low lighting
9. Bezel are slightly large for a 5.5inch

  hmm.gif

Not really a deal breaker for a phone that comes with stock Android, since comparing those omissions with the price it will be sold at, the omissions are negated (provided that Xiaomi prices it right for MY, of course).

Update : Already appeared on Lazada for RM1099.

Lazada's Mi A1

5x and A1 is pretty much the same size right?
I read there's extra sheet or something for cooling
So any 5x case should fit?
I wanna get some case while waiting for preorder
*
Nope. Mi A1 is slightly taller in height than the 5X. There are videos by geekyranjit in youtube that shows you the physical dimensions of both phone. They are only similar in terms of hardware specs. And yes, any cases made for the Mi 5X will not fit onto the A1.

Sure that it doesn't support QC3.0..? Dang, it'll be a must-buy if it does. How fast it'll charge considering it uses USB-C..? I don't mind the lesser battery capacity than the RN4 if it has QC, really.
*
According to C4Tech, since the A1 doesn't support fast charging, it would take approx. 2 hours to fully charge the phone from 15% charge, using the provided 5V 2A power brick/adapter.

The what? For real? Taller? Spoonfeed YouTube link here please?
*
Sorry, my mistake. After checking thoroughly thru multiple sources, YES, the dimensions are similar. I can't seem to be able to locate the video that i saw earlier. Maybe i was mistaken it with taller bezels, not dimensions. Arrangements of the buttons and camera bump and FP scanner not sure whether it's identical or not. If Xiaomi is recycling excess stock of 5X to the A1, everything on the outside should be similar as well.

A1 good?
cuz think the processor is outdated already
*
Outdated proc oso still wayy speedier than its Mi 5x twin. I say twin becoz the specs for both are the same. The only difference being the ROM.

Has anyone managed to run Google Camera HDR+ on Xiaomi A1?

By default xiaomi post processing algorithm is mediocre. want to get better pictures using google camera app
*
Does the Google Camera supports dual lenses? You'll prolly won't be able to use the telephoto lens if you use third party camera app on a phone with dual lenses setup.

telephoto lens is secondary. 10% usage only

90% usage with the normal wide angle lens. so if can use google camera hdr+ at least can get better landscape photo
*
Yes, agreed, but it would be a hassle to go back to and fro between two camera apps just to use both lenses...

this pix is not bad actually, details are still preserved, so you can make it slightly brighter by adjusting the brightness. Can use Snapseed app and do it in phone actually.

Need QC 3.0 charger + compatible type c cable?
*
Yep, the phone is capable of fast charging out of the box, but that feature was disabled software wise, and Xiaomi did not include a charger that supports QC. So in order to fully utilize fast charge after the Oreo update, you'll need to get a QC 3.0 compatible charger.

I'm kinda skeptical on this... is Dash Charging compatible with Qualcomm Quick Charging? hmm.gif
*
Dash Charging is slightly different than Quick Charge in the sense that the chip that controls the fast charge process is on the adapter, not on the phone. So basically, what the article meant is that, by using a Dash Charger, they can confirm that the phone has fast charging hardware built in, it's just disabled in the software side. When u use Dash charger on a QC compatible phone, it will run at the max limit Amp that the QC dictates, not at the Amp that the Dash charger can deliver. The results would be the same if you were to use a QC 3.0 compatible charger instead of the Dash Charger.

So does that mean the Oreo update does not actually enable the quick charge capability of the mi A1, as it is the dash charger that dictates the max Amp supplied, not the phone(which its QC is disabled by xiaomi)?
*
For TL;DR version :

- Mi A1 already has Qualcomm QC 3.0 compatible h/w inside, but disabled in Nougat
- Stock charger comes with Mi A1 does not support QC
- The upcoming Oreo update will allow for the QC h/w to be used
- Dash Charger or any compatible QC charger will allow the phone to be charged faster than normal charging

Quick Charge tech, they bump up the Voltage, but the Amp stays the same (eg: 5V/2A, 12V/1.8A), charger doesn't get hot but the phone will. Still got battery regulation within the phone, so when phone gets too hot, the charging voltage will decrease. Dash Charge / VOOC maintains voltage but bumps up current (Amp). Charger controls the max Amp sent to phone, so phone remains cool but charger gets hot.
