The most important about tempered glass is that make sure it's finger print resistance, anti scratch, fully covered front panel especially all the side and four edges and lastly responsive to touch screen. smile.gif

Google updates search to lock you into an endless search loop

user posted image

Google has updated search in three ways over the past few weeks, and today, the company explained how these new features encourage users to fall further down a search hole. All three updates let users expand their search beyond the information they originally intended to find.

"Knowledge panels" now show related content, so if you search for skiing, you'll also be able to jump to a search about other snow-related sports, like snowboarding, or a more focused skiing search, like "ski jumping." You can see an example here:

Meanwhile, "featured snippets," which already give users a snapshot of whatever they're searching, will include more images along with related searches. These are algorithmically determined, Google says.

These are the new featured snippets:

Finally, Google is proving additional search suggestions, similar to knowledge panels, but it seems Google will automatically deduce the topic you're researching based off back-to-back searches. So if you look up two individual soccer players, you'll then see other related athletes.

I can't wait for us all to fall so deep down a Google search hole that we forgot what we initially wanted to look up.

Smartphone trend now.

Bezel-less design and 18:9 aspect ratio front and centre.

After about one year, features like face recognition/Face Id will be more on smartphones

There won't be an Android Two. It's only Android One. The next model name might be Mi 2 A1.

My bro Redmi Note 4 Pro having sound problem. There's no sound from caller and receiver. No idea why but loud speaker if on can hear. I think he needs to send his phone to Mi service center........ sad.gif

Android phones in 2018: Portrait pics on a single camera lens

user posted image

The smartphone trend of two rear cameras for artistic portrait shots is so pervasive that even dirt-cheap budget phones sport dual lenses on the back. That could change next as early as next year as new chip technology from Qualcomm makes it possible to take a Bokeh portrait photo from a single camera lens.

It's similar to the Google Pixel 2, which bucks the dual-camera standard now adopted by virtually every other high-end phone, though that device certainly gives us a model of what's possible using software alone.

The technology comes down to AI algorithms processed within the Snapdragon 845 chip that Qualcomm announced this week at an annual summit. Qualcomm's Snapdragon processors are used in the majority of high-end smartphones, where their capabilities form the backbone of what phones like the next Samsung Galaxy, LG, Motorola and OnePlus phones can do. Qualcomm faces competition on the high-end from Apple, Huawei and to a certain degree Samsung, which rely on their own house-made chipsets (a portion of Samsung phones run on the Exynos processor, typically for Asian markets).

Being able to take portrait shots on a single camera lens can help phonemakers shed the cost of a second camera array. Alternatively, phones with a second camera lens that's used for adding detail but not portrait blur -- like a monochrome camera -- can offer the feature on the dominant lens.

The bokeh or depth-of-field effect -- which softly blurs the background while keeping the photo's subject in focus -- is a carryover from DSLR cameras that Apple popularized with the iPhone 7 Plus.

"In a smartphone, you need to calculate a depth map," said Tim Leland, Qualcomm's vice president of product management. "That depth map then gets fed into another system, which then applies a manipulation or blurring of those pixels in a different way that mimics the bokeh effect."

Smartphone makers typically achieve bokeh with two lenses, which create a kind of stereo effect to generate a sense of depth. Qualcomm's approach with its feature, which it calls Deep Portrait, is to run the image through a computational neural network that applies artificial intelligence to determine the subject from the background.

"You don't want to blur somebody's face for example or accidentally blur somebody's hair," Leland said.

Qualcomm isn't suggesting that phones should ditch a two-camera system, or that bokeh portraits taken with software rather than camera hardware are higher quality. In fact, Leland noted that the algorithms could improve the blurring accuracy of two camera lenses.

"AI is one of those things where you can't necessarily do something without it," he said. "But it makes it better."

As the Google Pixel and Pixel 2 prove with their Lens Blur feature, you can take bokeh portraits using software alone. Traditional computer vision can already recognize diff types of objects by looking at specific patterns of contrasting pixels. Artificial intelligence recognizes objects in their entirety over time. For example, show an AI program thousands of photos of chairs and over time it will recognize what is and isn't a chair. Artificial intelligence aims to speed up the process.

Xiaomi Mi A1 receives OTA update with December security patch

Xiaomi Mi A1 was unveiled back in September this year carrying a price tag of Rs. 14,999. Recently, the smartphone was in headlines as it is all set to receive the Android 8.0 Oreo update and the company is looking for beta testers for the same.

In the meantime, a report by The Android Soul claims that the Mi A1 has received a new OTA update that brings the latest December security patch. The OTA update measures 153 MB in size and is aimed at enhancing the performance, stability and security of the Xiaomi Mi A1. If you are using the device, you can navigate to the device's Settings → About Phone and check for the system update manually from there.

Back in November, the Xiaomi Mi A1 received a heavy OTA update measuring around 1GB. This update brought the November security patch as well as bug fixes. After the update, the users of the Mi A1 were able to experience improved overall performance, enhanced system stability, better security, and under the hood improvements. Apart from this, the update did not bring about major changes to the system UI.

When it comes to the Android 8.0 Oreo update to the first Android One smartphone from Xiaomi's stable, it looks like the update will be rolled out to the beta testers initially. Once the volunteers test the beta update and the bugs or other issues are resolved, the stable Android Oreo update for the Mi A1 will be rolled out to all the users owning the device. And, it is expected that the Oreo update to the smartphone will be rolled out by the end of this year.

As mentioned above, the Xiaomi Mi A1 is the first Android One smartphone from Xiaomi. The device features a dual camera and other similar specifications as the Xiaomi Mi 5X that is available in China. It is available at a significant discount of Rs. 2,000 on Flipkart as the retailer is conducting the Big Shopping Days sale until December 9.

Semi-Functional LineageOS 14.1 Released for the Xiaomi Mi A1 Despite Lack of Kernel Sources

Here at XDA, we love custom ROMs, the whole reason why some of us are such huge fans of Android is because of the openness of the platform and the feats of ingenuity many developers on our forums have accomplished. The openness of the platform is thanks to core parts of Android being open source (AOSP) and its underlying Linux kernel being licensed under the GPL, which we at XDA support in its entirety. We have brought attention to the fact that many companies in the past have violated the GPL, with the most recent offender being Xiaomi. What makes this even stranger is that the kernel sources they are failing to release are for a device under the Android One program, the Xiaomi Mi A1.

However, having mentioned the ingenuity of the developers on our forums, Recognized Contributor deadman96385 and Inactive Recognized Developer cute_prince have worked to bring a semi-functional LineageOS 14.1 to the Xiaomi Mi A1, without any proper kernel sources whatsoever. How did they do this? The developers ported the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 (mido) kernel which partly works due to hardware similarities between the devices, which allows for a bootable ROM, albeit not very functional at the moment.

The list of what isn’t working is fairly large, but the actual ability to create a bootable ROM without proper kernel sources is a great feat. You can view what does and doesn’t work at the link down below, and appreciate the huge amount of work that went into the ROM to get LineageOS 14.1 even booting on the Xiaomi Mi A1 without any kernel sources or ground to work from.

It’s a shame that Xiaomi’s first Android One device, which is an excellent device mind you, is suffering from a lack of custom development because Xiaomi is taking their sweet time to release kernel sources. We hope that Xiaomi rectifies this matter quickly, because there are a lot of Mi A1 users on our forums who wish to see more custom ROMs for their beloved device.
