hey guys..i need to know what kind of ram does mbp uses...any ddr2 ram for notebook is usable?

Uhh.. SODIMM PC5300 RAM modules... (667MHz).. note that max u can go is 1GB per bank, making a total of 2GB RAM... u can use 533Mhz RAM, but wat's the point? 800Mhz RAM oso can, but u'll just run at 667.. so yeh.. there u go!

how do i know its pc5300?

Aint the rams used in macBookProb DDRII? Or is it just DDR?

I saw apple's web selling 2gb Rams though. So it should support up to 2GB per Bank rite?

they are DDR2 RAM chips.

Yeah, Apple sells 2GB chips, but that is for other Macs... but if you look around other forums, 4GB was said to be working in some cases, but then I wouldn't dare spend money to try it, unless I have other Macs...

So according to specifications, it is 1GB per bank, and with two banks it makes 2GBs... and yeh, having a same pair of chips will slightly make performance better... note.. slightly... it's something like widening 2 lane highway to 4 lane highway... but still got Toll.. ahhh. u get the point rite?

Do u guys suggested to buy straightly 2GB RAM or 512mb RAM?

Let Apple upgrade RAM is better or others Shop outside can actually do the job very well & secure?

Few weeks back in Apple center, 1GB ram is costing RM800 something including installation..

What is the best price i could get actually?

Don't EVER go to Apple to get ur RAM upgrades, they are there to SLIT ur throats... Just go and buy ur own RAM and install it yourself! Very very very easy to do... go apple.com and search for a guide to install RAM, they will teach u how to do it there.

Umm.. prices are cheap nowadays.. i think around RM100 to RM120 for a 512MB stick??

there are Value RAMs and Apple Tested RAMs

to be secure, get Apple Tested RAMs but of course they are more expensive than the Value RAMs

Value RAMs might have problems with Apple's motherboard which some of the members complained that it has frequent reboot and won't switch on normally.

Upgrading the RAMs by yourself is valid for warranty and it won't void the warranty of your Macs

yes you can
a 1GB Apple Tested RAM will cost you about RM400 while Value RAM only cost you around RM190

KVR stands for Value RAM while KTA stands for Apple tested RAM

you can look at the box of the RAM

You can stick to the few brands which Apple themselves are using... To my knowledge, the two types they use most often are Hynix... and Kingston...

Kingston and Hynix are somehow related anyways...

I am currently using a pair of 512MB... from Kingston.. and it's the KVR... and no problems at all! 1GB is perfect for day to day tasks.. and just good enough for your photoshop works... but if ya want better performance for stuff like photoshop, u would be better off with more RAM

RM400 for one 1GB apple tested ram is much cheaper than paying RM800 for 1 GB ram in Apple center.
So, best is to get Apple certified RAM & install can get rid off Weird reboot situation.

Any shop in KL selling Apple certified RAM? I mean the best price. Best if they can install for us wif little installment fees instead of relying APple center wif overpricey service.

I am using Mushkin DDR2 667 Rams with no problem so far... I got them for about RM 180 for 1 gig .... wonder if it will be cheaper during PC Fair.

I have a total of 2 gig RAM now.

Me using 2 Kingston KVR667D2S5/512 sticks...

It's actually 512MB PC5300 667MHz CL5 chip...

Got it 3 mths ago for SGD52 per chip, which is RM118 per chip. But I last checked 2 days ago, the price it was SGD48 which is RM109...

I haven't been home to KL for a long time, wonder how's the price like at LowYat.. or wherever else...

No hangs, no weird restarts, and very stable!

Anyways, can someone tell me? If I buy a lower rated CL chip.. anything less than CL5, will it work? and er.. will there be significant improvement? Thanks!
