Hi guys been googling quite awhile and still not getting a clear answer about this , just need a quick confirmation. I've been using dexron 3 from various brands for quite awhile for a yrv gearbox and yes I'm quite aware that toyota T-IV is not compatible with this gearbox.
So recently i changed the atf from d3 to sp3 as the sparepart shop has no stock for d3 atf. After changing it was fine for a week before it started making a moderate ticking sound only at P R and when using tiptronic at gear 2 3. This is definitely not normal. I change my atf every 6months. Is sp3(perodua) compatible with this gearbox? I cant confirm as i have no user manual for yrv maintenance only myvi's. Hopefully you guys can help me.

mind telling us what brand D3 & SP3 are you saying?
I use mostly castrol d3 atf, some petronas d3 atf and a few other d3 atf from reputable brands. It's my first time buying and using an sp3 from perodua red bottle.
Also i changed the filter as well and emptied out the gearbox cooler to make sure to get most of it out besides the torque converter. Everytime

Actually u shd not continue pushing the gb. Not having the correct oil can damage it.
thought as much bro. The sound of clacking hurts my heart. I've to not drive till monday. lesson learned. If i don't see dextron III on package not going to buy.
Just changed the atf back to dex-III a few hours ago, still producing a loud clicking sound. I guess it's already damaged something, sounds like somewhere in the flexplate area. Thanks for everyone who helped. I guess I'll just have to wait for the inevitable gb failure. sp3 is way too light of a fluid for that gb.
A little update. Don't think it's the gearbox. Sounds like the valve or tappet. During the atf change I changed the motor oil as well to some D2 brand10w-30 semi syn. Oil is probably to thin. Going to change that oil as well.
