QUOTE(Rightslash @ May 9 2018, 10:56 PM) deciding to get this router, current am using Unifi with their 50mb plan and my house is about 2000/3000 sq.feet. Would you guys recommend it? For a house that big, you will need to use Mesh network like the ASUS Lyra, not just a single routerThis post has been edited by sHawTY: May 10 2018, 11:03 PM |

For those who install fans on their AC68U/AC86U, remember that the best way to install the fan is to suck out the hot air from the router, not blow in air into the router
Blowing in air into the router will also bring lots of particles and dust into the router that may cause short circuit Whereas sucking hot air out from the router will reduce the number of dust going into the router |

QUOTE(JayceOoi @ Aug 8 2018, 11:40 AM) Thanks for the link. Going to get one and install like this... Yup, that's the correct way to install the fanYes there are still dusts around the router but take note that the dust is outside of the router |

QUOTE(andrew16 @ Oct 6 2018, 02:30 PM) I have bad encounter with tplink. Any other brand and model can recommend me? You can get the RT-AC86U for RM630.20 in LazadaAsus maybe? There is a downside for it's cheap price: The unit is from China, so ASUS Malaysia does not provide warranty if you bought it from there If you want to RMA, you will have to ship it back to China Link - https://www.lazada.com.my/-i422180893-s614821814.html |

ASUS RT-AC86U definitely doesn't need extra cooling unlike the older ASUS RT-AC68U, but I just installed 2 fans anyway to suck the hot air out (not blow air in)
Without fans the router runs at 70°C ~ 72°C With fans the router runs at 52°C ~ 55°C ![]() ![]() This post has been edited by sHawTY: Oct 11 2018, 09:35 AM |

QUOTE(halow @ Jan 9 2019, 02:18 PM) what is the normal speed I should get for 2.4g and 5g in close distance ? Don't expect any miracles on 2.4GHzFor 5GHz, set the channel bandwidth to 80MHz But in order to get 500Mb/s on WiFi, your device itself must support Wireless AC 866Mb/s. If it doesn't, then you buy the ASUS GT-AC5300 also won't help This post has been edited by sHawTY: Jan 9 2019, 02:30 PM |
