Hi guys, I wanna know your opinion/experience if any of you have upgraded from 60Hz monitor to a 144Hz one for playing Dota2? I know that it makes a big difference when it comes to FPS games but I only play Dota2 most of the time. So is it worth to upgrade my monitor to a 27'' 144Hz monitor or instead should I get a 29'' ultrawide monitor for the sake of productivity (I do quite a lot of reading/video editing).

Thank you for your kind attention! PEACE! rclxms.gif rclxms.gif

minor difference honestly unless playing twitch shooter game like OW or CSGO.
Ultrawide monitor prepare to bare with black bars when watching videos

I would choose monitor that have IPS panel + adaptive sync + high refresh rate but cost a lot lol

Personally I couldn't tell much of a difference even for the jump from 75hz to 144hz. I was playing Dota when I first got 144hz,i got instant regret because I forgot the reason why I got a 144hz, all because of reviews & hype.

imho, not much difference for Dota2...
more important concern would be resolution(FHD, QHD, 4k), size and also panel(IPS/TN)...

I don't think you can notice the difference. Screen tearing is obvious when you scroll your mouse at high speed. Therefore it's always noticeable in FPS games cause you always look around at high speed.

Echo what most people said here, I got my 120Hz panel when I was really into CS:GO, and the difference is huge. Everything feels so much smoother.

But in Dota, the difference is minor. Its still there, like I feel my mouse movements are smoother, but this could also be a placebo effect haha.

For Dota2, 144Hz is better for smooth panning and cursor movement, but not much for overall gaming experience. Yes with higher refresh rate you can see something happens quicker about few milliseconds compared to conventional 60Hz but what matters most is still your responsiveness.

But still, if you can afford for a better monitor then why not ? tongue.gif

While for choosing between 144Hz or Ultra wide, I would say you need to decide on the thing you want to focus on. 27 144Hz is great for gaming but wouldnt help much for your reading/video editing works. You can opt for an IPS panel for better color reproduction, or 1440p monitor for a higher resolution viewing experience. Ultra wide monitor will definitely fulfill all your needs in your reading/editing works, but playing Dota2 on an Ultra wide monitor is awful. The HUD skins will be stretched, and the minimap/KDA/Quickbuy/Network status which located at each corner are too far for you to see them easily and you probably need to swing your head like very frequent. The good side is that you will have a wider field of vision? Not sure about this I referred to here.

I see. But if I were to buy an ultrawide monitor, I might just play Dota2 in Windowed Mode or set the ratio back to 16:9, leaving black bars on the side of the screen. Not sure if this would work but I think that's the ideal way to go. Thanks for your opinion tho.. rclxms.gif biggrin.gif
