yeah, I think 256GB is good. probably the sweet spot.
120GB is pushing it. You have to be careful of what goes on the drive. 500GB allows for a very comfortable handling. Don't really need to think too much on what goes into the drive. |

QUOTE(go626201 @ Apr 27 2019, 03:39 PM) Can someone list 5-10 brand of SSD according to reputation from your opinion? Here's a small list from a pretty well researched guy on reddit. Currently i am using Samsung 850 Evo, but planning to get a new one with NVMe M.2 SSD for incoming ryzen 3rd generation rig as OS and Software Drive. (480 / 500 / 512 GB Capacity) Thanks. flowchart - Link List - Link This post has been edited by terradrgn: Oct 12 2019, 01:54 AM |

QUOTE(1024kbps @ May 1 2019, 01:57 PM) Something to add: Hey there, I've just installed an old laptop with a SSD. Is there any guide or resource you can lead me to for tweaking settings? Virtual memory, or paging file, by default is large as your system ram, is enable by default, will take up at least 8GB of SSD space if your ram is 8GB. Can be reduced to 4GB or just maintain at 8GB, but don't disable it completely as some application will crash or will not work without it. SSD is expensive per GB compares too HDD, hence some tweaking still required, if you're using laptop with just single SSD, then the amount of tweaking is lesser due to lack of HDD. Laptop is running windows 7 64bit. A Dell Inspiron 1440. |

QUOTE(perplexedstill @ May 10 2019, 04:15 PM) have to send back. Inquired samsung malaysia before. So if you can get the SSD at a price which is at the very least lower by >RM100 then I'd say it would be worth the trouble if anything goes wrong. QUOTE(FusionXY @ Jun 7 2020, 12:00 PM) My sister's laptop only 4GB RAM by default. I've faced the dreaded 100% disk usage issue before on my friends windows 8.1 laptop. a clean reinstall of windows solved it.Will upgrade to 8GB if got improvements from 4GB. My sister's case is the HDD problem already. Everyday getting 100% Disk. Did a malware scan also very slow. The HDD already old and needs to be replaced with a new SSD. Thanks. Like the rest have mentioned, an SSD will definitely help. I suggest going a step further and doing a fresh OS install instead of cloning the OS over. QUOTE(FusionXY @ Jun 7 2020, 09:40 PM) You reset your computer? Its usually tied to the Motherboard. But if your windows is a retail license, just reenter the cd-key during installation.Doing fresh install won't affect the Windows Activation License? If want to do fresh install on an empty SSD. Thanks. If OEM, it'll just auto activate when u reinstall. On this note, you could search for the program that shows u your windows cd-key and write it down. This is just in case anything goes wrong. |

to be fair his usage wouldn't really benefit from NVME anyway. SATA SSD will be good enough.
since prices are low now might as well get at least a 500GB or 1TB and call it a day This post has been edited by terradrgn: Sep 21 2020, 02:06 AM |
