i always thought it was because previous incidents (e.g. m4, m500) that caused it to become less popular here. the stories were always the same: unless the brand has very strong track records, and are able to rectify issues in time, all brands suffer from bad news, resulting in general distrusts from public. (imo crucial, sandisk, kingston, and plextor took heavy blows after respective incidents at different points of time in the past) all common brands were affected in one way or another. only a few can survive from such serious hits. You left out OCZ.
