850 evo is backed by 5-year warranty, sandisk ultra 3d has 3 years.

Oh yeah forget 5 years warranty on Samsung as well vs 3 on SanDisk

Mind I ask does nvme SSD works on old z97 platform? I'm still running z97 and 4790k, alot of oem nvme SSD at garage sale..looks tempting

i have an asrock z97 extreme6, and it works fine with pcie ssds as boot drive. instead of using m.2 slot, i use pcie slot.

about optane-based consumer ssds, there are a number of advantages over flash-based ssds that need to be highlighted:

1. high through-puts for low queue depths (qd-1 to 4);
2. no slow-down even if it's full (no need op to achieve performance consistency);
3. high endurance (about 6 times higher);
4. no need to get higher capacity to get higher performance;
5. no need trim command;
6. no need secure erase to restore performance.

intel 900p is still the first iteration of product release. it will definitely become better just like previous development cycles of flash-based ssds.

however, like performance nvme ssds, not many can make full use of it. looking at its current price, it's still better to get flash-based ssds.

for the adapter to plug into pcie slot does any of them work or need to buy specific brand?

also those oem nvme ssd will there be any compatability issue?

i never use before so i dont know, better make sure before i buy them
