Aya Hirano talent is simply mesmerizing. No wonder she is a darling doyen of new VAs for the Japanese anime fans. Her intonation and quick switching is seamless.

Shirashi speech is exact copy of Ghiren Zavi's speech in Mobile Suit Gundam. Just replace tsundere with New Type and you get the exact speech.

I don't get the jokes. Punchline failed for me because I have no Comicket experience so I can't relate.

Sigh, I wonder how many people here actually get the jokes in Lucky Star. Like I just find out that Tommy Lee Jones is in joke reference to the current MIB like coffee ad campaign in Japan in ep 11. This anime is very Japanese and let's admit it, even fluent Japanese speakers did not get all the jokes in this show either.
I don't know about you people, but it is hard for me to laugh when I don't get the punchline. Admittedly I only got like 30-40 percent of the jokes so far in Lucky Star. One thing for sure though, this anime is excellent study of Japanese sociology on pop culture. This post has been edited by Stormy001_M1A2: Jul 2 2007, 09:51 PM |

To each of his/her own then. I am kinda guy preferred to know before I can laugh or feel anything. Yeap, product of being bookworm and researcher here, couldn't help it.

Don't worry, you are not alone. I myself missed at least 60 percent of the jokes. Someone remarked this anime version of Seinfield, a show about nothing. So don't worry about it too much.

QUOTE(linkinstreet @ Jul 19 2007, 12:54 AM) yeah, only 2 person in the entire animeshrine does not understand the joke. You and Stormy. Go figure. Heck, it's not even that hard to understand. Some of my friends who are not even fans of japanese animes find this funny as hell No man, it is parody of current culture of Japan that I miss a lot. I mean do you actually get the Tommy Lee Jones joke in ep 11? Or Master Oyama reference? And 1st ep 10 min monologue on how to eat chocolate pastry actually funny? Tommy Lee Jones joke is referring to his current coffee drink ad campaign in Japan that combats faitgue. A Japanese resident told me this.

Nah, I am not pissed, but I do believe a good comedy anime that has more accessible jokes. Lucky Star is now bordering on self indulgence and those massive marketing of Haruhi did not help. Hence I find more amusing people who did not get the punchline actually liked the anime. This world never ceases to amaze me.

Not just anime veteran, a resident Japanese who is well versed in J pop culture and anything Japanese. I have a friend who stayed in Japan for almost 10 years and a hardcore anime fan, often complained to me how confusing some of Lucky Star jokes are.
