Went to a bike shop last 2 weekend, at first put budget around RM1k. Went out of the shop with Java Pro4 instead...Should had spent a bit more perhaps for Ira, but they dont have any in stock.

Contemplating to downgrade to 406 wheelset instead..A bit more comfortable then the 451 i hope...not that many seller of 406 wheelset in bbs.

or you could change to a wider tyre.

Will consider. Dropping by a shop later after work...

Was looking at tyre prices, and it's bloody expansive. my motorcycle tyre size 160 only cost circa 400-500 a piece..our tiny tyre cost circa 100..😂

I already have Java Pro4 though..

Was contemplating to get one for my wife, but need to be able to put a kid carrier at the back though..

Here is my experience of using a child seat on the rear of 20" foldie, rear carrier mount kind. Polisport Models, or Decatlon models.

- The foldie will be very unstable once the child on it...the front tend to lift if ur weight is not on the saddle.

- Using those proper ones like Polisport / Decathlon models..ur heels will likely hit on the child's foot that protudes from the chair...too close to pedals.

- U can get away with the leg collision issue, if ur mount type on the rear is on the seatpost...but my strong opinion, ur putting ur child at risk. Im very concern of the single seatpost have to support ur weight, togther with side load from the seat mount.....not worth the risk to me. Not to mention, your bike will tilt over easily.

I tried the cheap ones like those below RM100 selling online..rear rack mounting...but the mounting tools/ strap seat quality/safety..i rather not for any further journey or child is heavy.

If ur child is still lightweight, can try those that mount on the front between u and the handlepost..at least the weight support is loaded on the seatpost and body frame..and ur there to secure the kid.

So, long story short...Big bikes like mtb or touring bikes..still the way to go for using rear mounted child seat for me.

Thanks! will consider for touring bike then..

Planning to go to Kyoto/Osaka this coming April. Planning to cycle from Kyoto to Osaka one way, around 60km. Most probably will bring a 14' from here..

Do you have any photo on how you pack the 14' into a luggage? Any idea whether it's doable to do the distance on a 14'?

Is it possible to build a 14' fnhon foldie with an internal hub? Is it an issue to get a 14' rim suitable for internal hub?

Restarting my love affair with folding bike again...Sold my Java Fit Pro IV at a bargain just before PKP, later bang my head looking at the 2nd hand prices...
Building a Fnhon Gust this time..going with 16-349 setup with 11-34 casette 9 speed and 53t crank..i hope i made the right choice to start with 53t..Later need find a shop/mechanic who can sort out the cabling works..

53 seems abit low for a 16-incher, but it would be godsent if you climb alot

otherwise i see ppl banyak main 56-59
*
I'm a bit overweight...so my gearing preferences will be more towards easier climbing...trying this setup first, later can change the chainring if need more speed..

Bro Nas445, how bout the feel of the bike ? U shifted from 20inch to 16inch, right. Which one u more prefer ?
*
Can't comment yet for now..building up the bike piece-by-piece with my choice of specs/parts...hopefully all the parts arrive next week..tempted to build 1x11 but the parts price nowdays is crazy..9 speed parts more reasonable

Previously on 20-451...nice speed, but not that comfy....my aim for this build is for something small to carry around in my car to cycle after work...I have a road bike for longer ride in the weekends..

Only the 9 speed cassetté 11-34 and right shifter yet to arrive to start my installation this weekend, plus the headset tools press..tempted to go to decathlon tomorrow and just buy the cassette and shifter...might just go to my lbs and ask them to just press the headset..😂

the biggest different in pikes gen1 and gen2 is their handlepost, reach and frame length.
1st gen smaller than the 2nd gen. and handlepost more close to rider, making taller rider like me suffer for a long ride.

the biggest different between pikes gen 2 and brompton is the rear triangle. pikes gen3 are more to cosmetic. i would said its facelift version. the only different is their fork, package bundle on to it.
the rear triangle length are different from brompton, based screw are different and even the tensioner position are different,. i had to mod my litepro tensioner to fit my pikes. besides that, u still can use brompton/after market elastomer, seatclamp, mudguard, racks and also the easy wheel.

and yeah, many pikes user mod their 2nd cog to bigger sized for more wide ratio gearing. as u can see, the internal hub pikes are not the same like brompton. its the same model, but brompton made a special tweak on the hub.

pikes and brompton gave 13t/15t combo of cog. but brompton had wider ratio in their internal hub. to make it possible feel like that and save ur pocket, many of pikes user change their 2nd cog to 19t or 21t is the max. i've tried to put 18t to my setup. but i more prefser closer ratio on all my bike. still adopting this 18t for a while since i had 2 wheelset.

the touring spec i used 18t. and this highprofile wheelset i change to 16t and feel very comfort about it. dont know about u, but i dont like wider ratio since pikes or brompton are limited to 6speed only.

the easiest way without changing the cog is to used double chainring crank either with fd+shifter or manually change it without loosing close ratio and got wider gear option. but still, it wont be nice to put double chainring on my eyes.hahaha...

u seem interested on pikes. are u owning one?
*
That wheel to be custom built or procure directly somewhere? Tempted to try internal gear hub after this...

oh this model. quite ok lah.. its compact
hahaha... i just bought used. the rear hub originally from pikes gen 2. but the wheel are litepro brand and front hub is dahon 74mm qr type

u can get the internal hub online. shopee also had. if u dont bother extra gearing, try to use sram automatix. im using it with my dahon dabike. 2 speed auto, no need shifter and ur bike became neat and tidy
*
thank you for the info...interesting info on the sram automatix...can consider for my next project build...learn a lot building the gust from scratch, setting and indexing the rear deraileur really not my cup of tea...sometime you wonder how they design such bike with really low tolerance between the crank and rear vbrake.

my friend had the same expirience like you with his gust. later he upgrade his rear brake to caliper brake and problem solved.
*
I have extra tektro brake caliper, but somehow the rear anchor hole is slightly offset with the tyre..read somewhere it's a common problem with gust..hope you can find out what model he install

Send the bike to my local bike shop and saw another gust on sale...priced at almost what my total cost spent to-date, although I'm using better parts.. surprisingly most of the foldies sold nowdays come with mx9 parts

Hope the parts price will normalize after this .. even tiagra fetch good price nowdays...previously not even on buyers radar, except for budget build..

Earlier was planning to build/buy a small foldies for my trip to Japan last year and cycle from osaka to kyoto..Just found out about shimanami-kaido and maybe I do that instead.. need to book my tickets by june & fly by Dec this year..😭 should have bought pikes or 3sixty...would have been less headache to travel with...
