Hi, I'm new to bike, have a dahon vigor d9 for few month, using it as recreation bike on weekend. Want ask a few maintenance question.
1. I think I need change the marathon Racer tire in 6 month time. Where can I find Marathon Plus or Panaracer Paselas 20"?
2. I'm using WD40 PTFE dry lube for chain. I heard paraffin wax lube is good, anyone know where to find?
3. Any shop to recommend for wheel truing? Or where can I buy the tool to DIY?
Thanks.

AFAIK no 20" Panaracer Paselas local offerings. Marathon Plus for 406 is available at roda link but I am not sure.

All dry lube can't survive the slightest wet road. you must reapply after every wet ride or bike wash. Also, manufacture specify 300km for dedicated dry lube. PTFE spray lube are not expensive, 20~30 can get. But the frequent reapplying piles up and gets a wee bit irritating…

I brew my own paraffin wax. I offer free waxing if you degrease your chain 1st.  My paraffin wax recipy can ride in rain, flooded road and last at least 800km (still going) without reapplying, washing or cleaning. smile.gif
My current bragging phrase "I buy bicycle to ride, not to wash"

Most decent bicycle shops can true your wheel for a decent fee. 10~20. You can DIY if you wish. Plenty of YouTube to guide you even if you just touch a bicycle for the first time.

*parafin wax formula floating around the internet are hoax, they won't last 200km… don't ask how I know
**try my wax before judging. Follow my guides. I am no authority on wax lube but I tried everything you may think is right…

Found the marathon plus at roda link. Any other tire brand recommendations for 20" 406? Currently tire is 20x1.50, the marathon plus is 20x1.35. Do that mean better pickup but less grip?

I usually ride around 10-15km around my area during dry weather. If it is raining or road is wet, I wouldn't ride. Yes, I'm interested in the paraffin wax. My usual way to clean chain is just use WD40 spray, soak for 5-10min, paper towel wipe clean and apply dry lube. Is that enough to degrease?

Thanks.

You very hard working. I didn't clean my chain since after Chinese new year…

I am not picky with tires. My requirements are simple. At least 1-3/8 wide, supple tire, slick. I don't ride fast enough to notice tire grip. Slip a few time on concrete floor because of my novice bike handling skill. Downhill, flat, uphill in heavy rain, never fast enough to loose grip. No I don't charge into sand and mud intentionally... not a hero smile.gif

I'm scare of uphill climb, leg is to weak. That's why need to ride more.
I like to keep my toy clean, little bit of TLC is needed especially when it is still new. There is some rust on the chain when I got it, as it is keep in store for some time.

Thx bro fatani & etigge...
I skip java pro & fit already...

Btw,now i think to find a good frame...
And start from there, chromoly frame mostly...
Since ira ride quality is not that good,i will skip it mostly...
Unless i am able to fine a used unit with good price...

Now thinking to import fnhon storm / dahon speed i think...
Budget raise to rm2000...
Regarding d dahon speed,something like P8 / D7 / D8 / Falco...
How to differentiate ya?
And d falco is d best?

How much roughly itu will cost to custom folding bike?
If i plan to import fnhon strom frame & okok 451 wheelset(i suppose is d rim & sealed bearing),both at rm1000...
Is d leftover Rm1000 enuf for d remaining parts?

A lot of sifu have spoken. I can give my beginner experience as I’m in your position last year in September.

We’re spoiled with choices nowadays. I funneled it down for you.
1. Don’t go the road of custom as you don’t even know your likes or dislike or your physical condition.
2. Get branded for better quality and assurance.
3. For bang of the buck , buy used.

I have myself a used dahon vigor D9. Gone through 700+ km with it since September. Most difficult time is the first month of ownership. Body aching every where. And also fell from bike cause very clumsy.
Fun part of it is:
1. Know some friends
2. Enjoy some outdoor and exercise
3. Doing some simple maintenance and add on (mud guard, lights, lubrication, cleaning ...)

Thing I don’t like about the vigor d9:
1. Rust at the nuts and bolts, even I don’t raid in the rain and store it indoor.
2. Chain also rusting. But I got a spare connex nickel plated chain ready.
3. It is not very portable like brompton that can put on floor and push around .
4. Creaking bottom broken. Spray some wd40 will quite it down for a few ride, but will come back.
