I can't recall if there is any review or comparison of gps on any smartphone, only statement whether it is available or not.

Dedicated portable GPS or Portable Navigation Device (PDN) is the best and Chine made is very cheap. No interruption if there is incoming call. Get Android base and can install and apps you like. If need to connect to data can get the one that support 3G too or tether through WiFi

I'm using Redmi Note 4 Snapdragon 625. Every time call comes in Waze loses the GPS fix. Worse, after the call is over, it still can't get GPS. The GPS function seems to have hanged. I have to restart phone then everything goes back to normal.

Im using htc for almost a year, very accurate. Then last month it become crazy and not showing the real location when wazing..
Last week bought oppo f1 plus.. Seriously im very disappointed.. It was ok for 10 minutes, then it was off location for 500-800m.. Lost a couple time during grab.. Is this normal for oppo?

My Note5 GPS also become a bit crazy after many hours

Always perform a Reset once a day.
I do it every morning.

But if you want fuss free GPS using the built-in phone, can't beat the iPhones on this.

SD, MTK or whatever SOC, eventually will have GPS problems. Reason because many phones already using metal chassis which block GPS signals. U either need to install a booster or buy another phone with plastic chassis. Then again, older phones like Mi3 and N5 also have GPS problems due to warping plastic chassis.

if your car tint is metal film some more if low quality one, no matter how good your phone is also useless as metal film block signal transmission.

invest in nano ceramic film, instead of buying high end phone but regretably culprit is actually the tint film material.

I am reviving this thread.
Currently doing Uber, but thinking of joining Grab. What phones do you recommend?

I am using Xiaomi Note 5. Since last week got gps issue when Uber app is running (even when offline).

have u all tried turn off/disable battery saver function on xiaomi?

just last weekend, in the Grab drivers thread, a few grabbers were experiencing that and were advised to disable that function.

they were using other xiaomi models, but it should worth a try.

i use Google Maps with the Uber Driver app. so far i have used 3 phones. the oldest is Samsung Note 3 Neo, 2nd oldest Xiaomi 3S, and newest is Xiaomi Mi A1. the samsung, even though is old, has no problems at all with gps except a bit slow when launching navigation. both xiaomis got gps issue when using google maps with uber driver. and both ok when using google maps by itself. i have disabled all battery optimising for uber and google maps, but no luck. tried disabling battery optimisation for just google maps also no luck. sent to xiaomi and they change motherboard also no luck. now i pass the xiaomis to family members who dont use uber driver app...they very happy with those xiaomis.

I just bought a Huawei Honor 5X, as someone told me that Huawei phone had 'smooth GPS'.
And he was right. My Honor 5X GPS works wonder.
Unfortunately, that's about the only thing good about it.

What I like:
very smooth GPS

What I hate:

- awful battery life
- when using Waze, while GPS is fast, calculating route is slow
- poor screen-to-body ratio
- Very easy to accidentally press the volume button. Just a light tough will do.
- no easy way to control which apps to autostart at reboot

Verdict:
NOT recommended
