Actualy which Sensor is better? CMOS or CCD?

I would say this is quite hard to compare...
Maybe you can go wikipedia or google to find out...

Anyway sensor would not be only the reason to choose a camera...

neither of both up there. i would say a 35mm film will be better.

last time they say CCD is better...

now they say CMOS technology changed and improved..it is better that CCD ..

confused by marketing tactics..

i rather compare other features though..

Why confused? Technology always improve, last time carburator, now fuel-injection, last time CCD now CMOS ... what is so difficult to understand?

If you say why they didn't phase out carburator cars and replace all new cars with fuel-injection ones are beyond me, manufacturers have their own reasons. CCD technology also same.

CMOS takes up less power and noise i think is better as a result of that...

But CCD is an emerging technology, so its really hard to say which is better.

The only confusion that it feels that CMOS is lousier is bcos somehow factories create cheap CMOS sets for items such as webcams (lower quality stuff), so you generally associate CMOS sensors with these items... (cameras from China or something like that)

But of course, some Canon gurus here will beg to differ...

The camera manufacturer would have weighed the pros and cons already of a CCD or CMOS sensor and have tweaked it to achieve a required image quality level.
If you're in the business of making camera equipment, then maybe you should be concerned of the differences.

best solution is try out urself... see whether u can see the difference.
if u can't, stick with the one which they say is better (after all u can see the difference )

Once I read a photography related book.
It listed the pros & cons of CCD, CMOS & even the FOVEON sensors. In a very impartial & detailed way.
But I just skimmed through very quick cos in a rush. So cannot remember much.
In short, all of them have their own shortcomings. So how the manufacturer tackle it is most important.

Don't forget the lens you put in front of the sensor, plus the brain that takes the picture behind the sensor. These two factors will make more of a difference than CMOS vs. CCD.

I see that CCD is more noisy compared to CMOS...
maybe its the software.. hmm

not really, most lauyah CMOS sensors noiser than CCDs, if you wanna play CMOS then use canon CCD for the rest of the field. then again, canon's compact point and shoots use CCDs so go figure.

Mmm ... I am not any Canon guru but I feel that you're very ill-informed here. The CCD and CMOS technology are invented back in the 1960s, so neither of them are 'emerging technologies'.

Factories did not CREATE cheap CMOS for China-made cameras. China bulk purchased the sensors and incorporate them into their products, it's a huge difference. Ppl like Samsung, Toshiba, Sony and Canon (among others) are all sensor manufacturers.

Nope, far from it. Canon uses CCD for their compact digicams, CMOS sensors from the EOS 300D onwards. Nikon uses CCDs for all their compact digicams and DLSRs except the top pro models which uses LBCAST sensors.
