Are you on Wifi or LAN? If LAN, then confirm the router is faulty...

Hi, I'm on wired connection only. So really have to change router? What is a good cheap one that I can get?

For a cheap 2.4ghz router you can get TPLink-WR1043ND (RM199)

For a cheap 5ghz router you can get TPLink C2 AC750 (RM299)

Both quite good also.

If you don't mind about warranty and want cheaper you can look for Xiaomi Router 3 with custom firmware (Padavan) which cost around RM100+
Better performance than both above. I'm actually selling mine https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=4376044&hl=

hi, thanks for your feedback! i will consider your suggestions.

Never seen a malfunctioning router cause lower speeds. Usually they just stop working. What router are you using now?

What's the ping from your PC to the router? Or ping from 1 PC to another PC. Please test on wired only which I think you've said you already are.
*
im using the stock router from TM D-LINK DIR 615 orang and white. recently the wifi light KO already.

pinged my router and result was < 1ms via wired connection

Probably interference. Are you standing close to the router during that test?
*

What I mean is interference from outside sources. Neighbours? I'm presuming that you're on 2.4Ghz. Is that right?

What I'm saying is that if it's interference, changing the wifi router won't do much good. You'll need to switch to a cleaner frequency whether at 2.4GHz or 5Ghz.

btw which Xiaomi did you get?
*
oh i see. but its a wired connection. does the 2.4ghz apply?

i bought the Xiaomi Mi Router 3, with Padavan custom rom from zhihao4456

My apologies, with that Speedtest result, I just assumed that it was on Wifi. Please ignore all I said about 2.4 & 5Ghz.

For wired, that's really really bad.

This is what I get with a DIR-615, 50mbps and 2.4Ghz wifi in a non-congested house.
user posted image

Something else is wrong. What did you get on wired previously on the DIR-615? Are you on VDSL or Fibre?
*
recently my net just gone to shits. idk why. so i thought why not just change the router since dir-615 has bad reputation anyway.

speed reduce by about 10mbps , ping kind of doubled. even if i ping to www.google.com i get 54ms

im on vdsl

doh.gif Why didn't you mention this earlier?

Check your SNR and attenuation value.
Probably the copper wire got loose or something.
*
how do i check the 2 things you mentioned? icon_question.gif

LOL!!! u should have mention u are on vdsl earlier~ it have big difference with fibre

dont tell me vdsl no point changing router cry.gif

QUOTE(JohnLai @ Aug 29 2017, 11:09 AM)
Better hope the default login works.

There are two possible logins:

1) username: admin    password: admin
2) username: admin    password: hs5711Bbvl

Assuming if TM didn't change the login password.

A) you need to plug a LAN cable from your pc/laptop to HG655M port number 2.
B) Then you need to manually set a static IP:

IP : 192.168.1.50
Subnet mask : 255.255.255.0
Leave default gateway empty.

C) Enter http://192.168.1.1/ and type either one of (1) or (2) logins above.

D) Go to Status ---> WAN -----> xDSL.
For more advanced status report, normally one would telnet or ssh into the modem to run some command line stuff.
*
wah thanks , once loging how to check the SNR and attenuation value that you mentioned earlier?

If you use LAN to connect from your pc to D-Link router in first place and experience low speed and high ping....then yes, no point changing router.

-.- Read Part (D)

Take screenshot and post it here.

If your SNR and attenuation are screwed, you can use that statistics and send it to TM using TM Live Chat for report creation.

Problem! 192.168.1.1 is my router right now.

.......... ranting.gif do you have reading or comprehension issue?
*
Relax, idk what I'm doing.

Anyway I can't connect to 192.168.1.1 even tried few browsers.

Here's what I did

1) revert back to old setup with dir615
2) unplug LAN1 from the BTU and connect it to LAN2
3) set manual IP as instructed
4) open browser and search for 192.168.1.1
5) request timed out.

Did I miss something?

Maybe you need to connect the BTU directly to the LAN port on your computer.

No wonder your internet speed is slow. The attainable rate tells the story. You would have to get TM to fix this.
*
QUOTE(JohnLai @ Aug 29 2017, 05:53 PM)
Based on your dsl stats.......I think you can make a conclusion from it.

You can never get 30Mbps download and 10Mbps upload with that kind of values.
The vdsl router explicitly mentioned the attainable rate is 21.8Mbps download and 8.5Mbps upload. console.gif

Recommendation = make a report to TM with that screenshot.

Possible causes = copper wire connectors/screws loose? Copper wire got exposed to elements and corroded? Interference in the copper wire?

~.~ Does this issue happen recently?

*In case if you are assigned with lazy technicians, they simply advised you to downgrade to 10Mbps or 20Mbps (TM can internally set it to legacy 20Mbps package)*
EDIT: SNR too low, should be higher than 25 to get 30Mbps downstream and 10Mbps upstream. Attenuation is too high, must be less than 10. Your copper line screwed up.
EDIT2: With yout current result = you should be experiencing line drop out due to dsl resynchronization/training  hmm.gif . Bad for user experience.
*
thanks guys especially JohnLai for helping me icon_rolleyes.gif

i will make a report to tm and ask them check.

my line is pulled from the box in my apartment. and the speed fk up happened recently only. out of the blue.
