hello all, i'm in tough decision now. Currently, Im working as PE in a local company which doing fully international business. I got the offer from Infineon Technologies recently as engineer in PS department.

The problem is my current boss counter offer me with salary no less than Infineon offer and even promoted me to be a section head. I have already signed the offer letter from Infineon. I got this 50-50 feeling to go or not to go because of the counter offer. I see infineon has better benefit than my current company. I heard a lot of good things from infineon.

Can somebody here help me pls? I need a wise decision wether to go or not to go.

Which Infineon? Kulim or Melaka? PE = Product Engineer? How bout PS??
If boos counter offer you mean he can " see you up" hehehehe...is good news what somemore promote you too.
Banefit wise, need to see.
Like last time my case- current company give me whole family medical claim and I got new offer but without family medical claim but basic is higher ~RM800. Then I take new offer as you family not sick every month, right? Just save some from RM800 to buy insurance should ok.
If you didnt take higher pay, then next time you want to jump very hard to get RM800 increament.
When I left Intel my boss also want to offer me option/ share luck I didnt take as now Intel share drop drop drop.....

How is your career growth in your current company? Are you happy with it? Still learning new things?

What do you expect to do in your next position? Will the job in Infineon open new doors for you?

Note: Very personal preference here - If someone only promotes you to a section head because you tender your resignation and want to avoid a vacuum with your abscene and not because of your merits, you should really consider the impact on your career in such a company. If the company really recognizes your merits, why didnt this promotion happened before? If they did not recognize your merits now, will they later on? Or will you have to threaten with resignation again in the future to get your well deserved?

My personal preference has always been to find a company that recognizes and practices meritocracy. If a company can promote you for the wrong reasons, they can well promote others for the wrong reasons. Ultimately this makes the company run by people doing things for the wrong reasons and causes a lot of unnecessary problems.

Btw, if the current company is gonna pay you the same salary after promotion to a section head as a normal engineer in infeneon, dont you think you are underpaid?

currently working as Process Engineer, i'm going to Infineon as Product Test Engineer in Power Semicondutiors department.

bro darun, for ur info the promotion will take place in July only. When i ask my boss why he promotes me when i want to resign he reply actually he already plan to promote in july, it's just so happen that I want to resign before he announce it to me.

I got no problems working here. No politics, colleague all ok, work close to boss. But a bit that bother me is to control people under me(operators, techs and sup). Im not good at that. I'm too lenient sometimes.

Being promoted to section head of project management, i have to learn a lot of new things by myself because that is a new post.

why you signed the offer letter b4 talking to your current boss 1st .....

for the position that you going to take up ... its seems like you are very childish in making your decision ....

i would assume and respect that the position you are undertaking require you to behave like an "adult " but ... sorry to say .... with this posting of yours show that your abilitity of making decision is 'NOT wise "

Only after they knew that i really want leave the company... they offer me with this promotion thing etc etc to make me turn back.

I told my boss that i already signed the offer letter. He said 'you can call them back and tell them the truth. Just dont go during the reporting day. They cant do anything'.

I think as a product test engineer in Infineon, you will most probably be controlling the QA folks especially the QA operators. I see the promotion as a good way to retain your services and it may take you a while before you get promoted in Infineon unless the job scope means that you are already at a high position (Senior Engineer or manager).

You can hear a lot of good things in Infineon because its a MNC compared to your local company. Don't get me wrong but what do you see yourself doing in the future? If you believe that Infineon can offer you something more, then go ahead. Else, if you do stay, you can gain a lot of experience and valuable project management skills which in the future can be very useful for your own resume.

it all boils down to the company ? Which is making more money? Cause that is what matters most in the end.

I think asern is talking about Infineon Melaka smile.gif Have you heard the saying 'the grass is greener on the other side' ? Moving to Infineon has it's pros and cons. Here is what I think:

1. In your current company you will be promoted to team lead. In Infineon, you will be just another brick in the wall. Unless of course you believe you're a high flier and can beat off the other engineers. If you get senior position then different story.

2. A lot of people say Infineon is where you can have a easy life. Not really. It depends on your job function or your boss. But generally the work culture is more friendlier than a lot of other semicon company.

3. Infineon has also been given the nickname retiree's incubator. Certain positions in the company will sooner or later erode your market value to the point that your experience in not valuable in the job market. So chose wisely.

Other than that it has quite good benefits. So think it over. Good luck

yeah thats what i heard from my friend killdavid.
hmm.. any work in infineon b4/currently work in infineon? mind to share some of ur experience there.

1. How is the working enviroment in PS department compared to DS and LP?
2. How fast is the promotion to the next level averagely. From fresh to next level?
3. Is the increment good? what is the maximum percentage per year?

HMmm....i think working in a MNC will definately push up your value in the market. Head Hunters will usually look at the companies that you have worked before...and MNCs are very much preferred.

1. Don't know. Not in production dept.
2. Policy: minimum 2 years in between successive promotion.
3. 5% doh.gif

As I said which is making more money? A company not making money will sooner or later retrench or fire ppl.
