Gosh, don't ever use such language for your interview, I can't ensure you will get a place with that kind of language.
Brush up both your English and BM speaking skill as well as your writing skill in that both languages.

are you having any problems spelling the words correctly? gosh if you cant even write properly i wonder how are you gonna sit for the interview later?

Brush up on your english.
Learn to speak with confidence.
Try giving a speech in front of a mirror.
If you manage to without stuttering and reading your script, you'll have no problems.

Btw, how you do during the first two days doesn't matter. Its all to help u gear up for the 3rd day. Interview day.

P/s: Sometimes many of the best student couldn't enter there because of their lack of communication skills, only a talkative person and know how to pretend a fake personality could enter there ..

My cousin (Chinese) being called up for Petronas interview few years back, 2001 I think.. She got straight A1 and during that time it was kinda hard to get straight A1, so she was offered with various scholarships and courses. She told me those who went for Petronas interview were all Malays except for her. Don't know this incident still happens now?
She rejected the offer and opted for Yayasan Tenaga Nasional (YTN) and completed her double Degree in Engineering in UNITEN without being attached to working bond.

This is not still happening. btw, I'm from uniten. haha

That's what I said about group discussion .. let's see one example, you are discussing in your group in front of the interviewer .. then you are trying to be yourself, your trueself is didn't like to talk but only voice your opinion in a simple way .. you give another person a chances to talk and you only speak for a certain time and didn't want to involve with the debate .. and do you think they still take you just because you have your principe not to try to be others? I don't think so, they searching for a talented and have a leadership attitude, not only the academic result .. perhaps you can ask every person that get the scholarship .. do they just keep their mouth shut in front of the interviewer, participate when the time come or they try to show the interviewer they are the best in the group?


P/s: Got this tips from my niece, he attend the scholarship last year and he need to participate everytime in the group discussion even he is not a talkative person, and he said that he can see people that never talk much in their life suddenly talk to much just get the 'ticket' to enter there .. everyone that have been called to the camp is totally one of the best student in this country, then how they will fight for the limited scholarship? Just using their result? Think of it ..

Lol. As i summarised in my earlier post, you'll have to be the rose amongst the thorns if you want to stand a chance. But this is my advice to all non bumi applicants. If you want overseas scholarship from petronas, forget it. No matter if you were the best guy in the whole interview of 3000 applicants your chances are slimmer than Eva Longoria's waist. Especially if you're applying for med. If you apply for UTP or local tertiary education then your chances would be quite high. Really, your quota is like just a tiny slice of a cake =/

at my time.. interview is divided into 2 session.. group session n individual session..

you'll be placed into your grup 1st.. n 1 current issue will be given to each grup.. u hav to discuss bout the issue.. find the point.. recommendation etc..

then your group will be called one by one to meet the interviewers.. 2 person @ my time.. from UTP lecturer @ staff.. so.. hi here n there n they'll asked u bout the issue.. just speak.. dont answer in single word.. always elaborate.. they just want to see how talkative you are LOL..

then after that you'll be called in a group to meet them once again.. here you'll act as in forum.. group discussion bout the issue.. the tips is: dont argue with others idea.. agree with thems.. but give and improvment for their idea..

hurm.. thn after nothing more.. u can go home..

PETRONAS is not a charity organization to sponsor student.. but they are investing for each sponsorship.. thats from ESU not me..

If u really wan to get scholarship for tis kind of courses,i suggest u go apply for shell scholarship better........they purely c the result onli but not for those spm leavers ...they can apply next year after finish their A lvl or stpm.

And I know few friends thats not accepted eventhough they talk a lot. good personality does matter while talkative give s**t IMHO.

Petronas is such a huge ass corporation they probably need a few hundred doctors serving all over. Near their oil mines, offshore, in their bases in other countries.

Is Petronas really serious about this. I spoke to a lot of straight A students with excellent co-curriculum achievement and blah blah blah and they got rejected. Bumi and non bumi also. Does petronas know that all these Bright students applied for JPA too? Even if they really call the cream or the cream of the crop, I would say a majority of them will take up JPA rather than Petronas. The Educamp is another waste of money and limits the selection of candidates. Rather they should have a more spread out interview like JPA.

JPA is Government and Petronas is not. Petronas caters first to their employees' kids and any balance would probably go to deserving bumis and non-bumis (80-20 like JPA?) I'm sure they are not about to sponsor 1,800 scholars like JPA and considering the size of their organisation all across the country and elsewhere, the number of employees applying for their kids would probably make up three fourths of the number of scholarships on offer. And to top it all, I know of a guy who only scored one A in SPM but he got a scholarship to study in UTP because his mom is a Petronas' staff.

at most they accept around 800 students per intake i guess. and yes, their employees' children will have an extra opportunities. even in a form need to state either the candidate have somebody related to petronas or not.

let me say this.. if u're a nonbumi and don't have anyone related that is working in petronas, even your result is 14a1 and u're a president of a club and headboy and active in sports, chances of a "wanted" course like engineering and medicine, are slim

my genius schoolmate didnt say much during the interview but still got the scholarship as his facts are precise and straight to the point.

he present his thoughts n kill the other 3 guys/gals points during the group interview. so give a good answer.

i guess its worth to be mean. fully paid tuition fee's and lodgings, monthly allowance of RM500, book allowance, computer allowance and for god sake allowance for submitting your dissertation?

The thing is, they rejected alot of people for the interview. How are they going to see the attitude of the people before the interview them. The only thing they can see from the form is academic performance, co-curricular activities, income. And those whom I know where rejected excelled in all area, plus one the father mother retire already.

If the want to give 3/4 of the scholarship to petronas employee's children, then it seems as if they are running a charity rather than a company. What is the use of sending half past six to overseas just because they are related to petronas employees. The half past six are going to be running critical area of the company later.

Another point I want to highlight but I don't know how true it is. This is from a friend's friend so I can't confirm its authenticity. Anyway, she told me her friend was on a Petronas scholarship. On graduation, she worked for Petronas but after half a year, Petronas released her. Few months down the road, she received a letter from Petronas to repay around RM100k they spent on her education! I was like but anyway, irregardless, I think all of us should read carefully whatever we sign, contract, bond, etc. Read the fine prints.

And the case I mentioned earlier here, about that employee's kid who obtained the Petronas scholarship with only one A in SPM? The latest I heard was he didn't get through his 1st year in UTP and was asked to repay the amount Petronas spent on him. His mom is, of course, appealing the case.

yerp. even though they said that they 'release' still, students need to pay for the loan (oh, its not scholarship i tell you. just convertable loan) according to percentage in agreement if not servicing them for 9 @ 10 years. different case if you are 1st class graduate.

Isn't that a bit risky if we have been released suddenly?

Wasted my RM40 for this scholarship....one time at the end of last year and one more this this year....a lot of my friends didnt get called up for this interview also.....mostly my friends were all got very good result in spm plus very active in co-cu....thier parents some are retired also...all of them didnt get called for this interview...shouldnt have applied in the first place....

So you're implying that, for everyone regardless of race the chances are slim or there are equal opportunity for applicant regardless of race?

I too wasted RM40 and lot's of my friends paid double too but did not get called up.

One thing about Petronas is, after six months, they don't offer you job, contract is broken and you are free from the bond. So you don't really have to apply for job, let them offer you. And these people are not all the efficient, i know someone who studied chemical engineering and wasn't offered a job within six month.

I got short-listed for the interview too. And as implied, it was significantly an easier ride for me, seeing as I am Malay; albeit my results weren't what one would consider highly impressive. It's only comparatively good. I am very active in co-curriculum though, and I represented my school in debate for 3 years consecutively. Reading all this depressed me a bit if my race and ethnic background was really the primary criteria, and not my credibility as a good student.

I'm sorry all you people of different race feel that way, and yeah, they should base it more on meritocracy. I implore though, that you do not act prejudiced against the lesser-accomplished Bumis whom were accepted. It's just us seeking for better opportunity, and I don't know how true this applies to other people, but for me, I wouldn't be bitter if I were to lose it to a more deserving candidate. Though it's not like we can hand out the scholarship to that person if we succeed instead. I just hope for their best since as per mentioned, they are deserving of better opportunities.

1) They will have a test. I forgot exactly whats the name of the test. Damn it. Its suppose to gauge your standards, see where you stand. There will be an english test, and math test and something like a... thinking test. U know, like KBKK kinda questions. IQ kinda questions.

6) Hmm. They will still ask you twice during the educamp. Whether you are EXTREMELY sure you want the course u stated on ur form. If not, they still give u chance to change dont worry ^^ During my educamp (2006) they also had workshops to promote other courses. Whichever lecture theater u go into, they'll try to change your mind into switching to that course. Lol. So make sure u go for the ones that you think you might like. They'll tell u all the pros (not cons) and tell you how your career with that field of study might be like.
But not after they've given u the scholarship.

Hurm, I do once go to Educamp. A bit competitive for me as a lots of excellent student were there. The IQ test were.. what can I say aa... I dint have proper time to think the answer!!.

The thing that make me feel strange is that, my friend which he was only 5A in SPM manage to get a place there. Btw, he taking civil engineering. My opinion is that, if you really want to go to UTP, make sure you didnt choose Chemical Engineering unless you're damn good.

One of the admin officer there, Puan R****** said that, minimum requirement for chemical engine course is 9A1.

As far as Petronas interview is concern (I am 1 of it's scholars, currently studying in UTP), been un-able to speak well english or bahasa is not much into concern, but being formal and ethics is much important.. i could say some of the scholars are not really well in english spoken, (including me), but they manage to be more ethics and formal.. my suggestion, u dont have to really well english spoken, just OK is enough, but make sure, PROPER AND FORMAL..

The EduCamp consists of two parts:
1. Competency test: They will test you on your Maths, Physics, Chemistry (If you applied for engineering courses), and English competency (just some easy ones). They also have an IQ test (basically just pattern recognition test)

2. The interview. Participants will be grouped in 5 and given a different case study for each group (usually recent cases or general cases such as traffic congestion, drugs trafficking, etc.). You will then be called one by one to start with an individual interview (just to promote yourself) and later on the whole group will be called in and you guys will start the discussion on the case study given.

Tips to win the interviewers' heart.. I would say just dress properly and talk with proper language. No need to use bombastic words / phrases. The interview is done 100% in English language.

What are the document I need to bring along & how many set??? I presume document like SPM result slip, IC & so on??? All certified true copy.

How many interviewer are there??? UTP lecturer? From which faculty? Petronas Officer???

Any tips on what sort topic & case study likely for this year??? He! He! Any insider tips??? It will be highly appreciated.
