Mine would be:
Fernando Hiero -charismatic captain of R.Madrid who got kicked out
Makelele- as discussed above
Fernando Morientes
Roy Makaay
Paolo Maldini -the only other player besides Totti who stays at one club
*
Hierro- he is regarded as one of the greatest, so underrated? :S
Makelele, ppl keep calling him underrated that he's no longer underrated
Morientes, i do agree
Makaay too
Maldini, staying at one club means u are underrated?

Healy-underrated? doubt it...he may be good for Nothern Ireland, but thats maybe because he's the best and everything goes through him. you said it yourself, perhaps he isnt good enough...the point of the thread is to name players that are good enough but not appreciated.

i think KR is the most overrated son of a woman i have ever seen in a red jersey.

i think Mista and Raul Garcia are underrated..but then i dont know how the Spanish think of them...as i dont read Marca or anything doh.gif

But doesn't everything go through your best players most of the time? That is the reason for playing them. I mean Liverpool go through Gerrard all the time. It's not like Andorra's strikers are prolific. Given they are one of the worst teams in the world, it shouldn't be too hard to stand out if you are a half decent player. It's one thing to stand out in a crap team but it's quite another to score that many while receiving crap service.
*
it goes through him, but gerrard isnt a one man demolition derby. at least less so now as Rafa is trying to fix that, isnt he.
Healy, i dont know. i am just not convinced that he can do it at the highest level. if David healy is mentioned, why no credit for Ali Karimi

i am quite skeptical. until i can see him play week in week out, i will reserve my judgement la.

i mean, i do agree that international level is diff from CL (which i agree with ppl who say that its played on a higher level)

and my point with Healy is this:

if we have one henry and 10 crappy players (not a slur at gunners but its just an example, u can put ronaldo or gerrard in the team), gerrard will score, create and pass and defend, am i rite? problem is when we have 11 gerrards in one team, which of the gerrard/henry scores? in the end, we have the problem faced by spain, england and to a lesser extent, italy and france

Isn't Karimi pretty highly rated? I mean that is why Bayern Munich bought him in the first place. I personally think he one of Iran's best.

he gets the publicity in this region but in world football? bayern have not offered him an extention .... u say Karimi is pretty highly rated but that is at international level but where is he at club level? my point..

not trying to argue either tongue.gif
but my point is the manager appreciates his contribution for N.Ireland
so do fans and neutrals
but he doesnt cut it at league level so i doubt he deserves that MUCH credit

my point regarding 1 gerrards/henrys and 10 crap players is to say that we dont see great players score in international level because of other factors and not because they arent good enough and i belieev haley is getting all the limelight because he's like a henry/gerrard where other players there arent

on finnan? i dont think finnan is underrated.

as for under appreciated, makalele comes to mind most in the madrid days where they felt he was not deserving of a higher pay simply because he wasn t elegant enough was it? forgive me on my shallow history regarding madrid.

but underrated huh?

players that come to mind:

1) parker/nolan- good enough but arent given a chance at international level inspite of lampard's poor performances for england. though some say that they arent playing for Manchester United or Liverpool or a big club, havent they been performing for club level and been very good, i might add. Barton too but his backside is always up..

2) Arteta. Yeah, we know about Cahill by now but Arteta. sound and steady but never much highlighed.

3) Fletcher. I think this kid is hugely underrated. Lambasted by fans of the club itself, nuff said.

will think of more

Actually Bolton-Man has summed up the points why Healy is not underrated.
