Currently:
1. What is the legal age of consuming alcohol in Malaysia?

2. What is the legal age of purchasing alcohol in Malaysia?

Some say consume=noLaws and purchase=18 but many say both 18. Kindly include source as I can't find any specific laws regarding either.

Thanks in advance.

Edit. Now that I researched further seems that there is no law in malaysia against underage drinkers. Only those who sell will be held liable.

there's not really a legal age as in Malaysia even a 7 years old kid can go to grocery store to buy beer for daddy. As long as you don't get caught ur fine

1. It is really subjective, some starts at 12. Even the law says 18.

2. Our law of purchasing booze is not as strict as in USA. Anyone can purchase alcohol without showing ID in Malaysia

That's true but not what I'm looking for.

Any idea of the actual laws? Putrajaya can't have increased the age from 18 to 21 if such a law doesn't even exist. However, even for the age increase, some reports say consumption age and others say purchasing age so it's still vague as to which is which.

The hell man? Selling alcohol to below 18 is a crime. Where the fuck u guys get the idea it's legal to buy but illegal to drink? Please dont bullshit about "atuk/mak/bapa/pedobear suruh tolong belikan". It's just illegal to sell to anyone below 18, although in malaysia somehow the tauke just can sell to anyone but that doesnt mean it's legal

So it's illegal to use gun but legal to buy gun now?

Illegal to get high but not illegal to buy?

seriously is that even a question to ask?

Relax man, guns and alcohol got a lot of legal difference; not a fair comparison.

Fyi, many countries (about half in the world) have different age of consumption vs age of purchase. Eg. France, Germany, Indonesia, Singapore and many others.

If you're implying the drinking age and purchase is 18 here, can I have the source pls

Thanks for the source, confirms that alcohol cannot be sold to below 21's starting 1st Dec 2017.

"mempamerkan suatu tanda secara mudah dilihat tentang larangan jualan minuman beralkohol kepada mana-mana orang di bawah umur dua puluh satu tahun sebagaimana yang dinyatakan dalam Jadual Kedua Puluh C di kaunter miniman beralkohol yang ditawarkan untuk jualan."

Doesn't say anything about the consumption age though. It should be explicitly mentioned somewhere if there's an actual law on it.

So sayangkan their "anak muda", typical bad parenting that says "anak says baik orangnya, yg salah tu kedai tauke yg jual kpd anak saya. Dia kasih muda tidak tahu salah..." LOL

So what u propose? Send parents of underage drinker jail? Send underage drinker to henry gurney school? Fine both?

We do have strict law against drug consumption. Has that helped reduce its use?

Only helped increase its price imo. Same will happen if such law implemented for alco/ciggy

I see. Based on ur logic we shouldn't do anything at all since there will be offenders anyway right? Whenever a crime happened just point ur fingers to the community, dont fault that particular person at all is the way to go?

Hmm. Okay.jpg

But I agree though to convict the guardian/parent of underage drinker. Since currently there they are proposing a law to fine the parent who let minors lepak at night (Johor case). Don't jail then, just maybe fine them rm5000.

Really whats that gonna achieve? Most of these kids parents already struggling to make ends meet, no time to even focus on their kids. Now u want to fine them rm5k? U think suddenly magically they will focus on their children?

This is a larger social problem that needs to be dealt with in other way than merely punishment of the parties involved. Education, economic condition change & cultural shift is the way. Mark my word, making more laws to punish the general ppl wont help in alleviating this, only make gomen richer

Very strong point. That's what our government been doing for the past 50 years. Clearly it's failing isn't it? Don't u think it's time for the government to enforce harsher punishment for crime doer? I been to many country, I lived in India for 5 years and I can guarantee u Malaysia is the weirdest country when it comes to justice enforcement. Too fucking often I see this statement about "don't saman la, he already poor enough. Let him go"

I believe the main reason why we failing is because of the notion that u just said. Most ppl commit crime because they struggling to make ends meet, we shouldn't punish them further. Like whattt?! Why the government should pity them? If u are already struggling then please behave accordingly and refrain from doing illegal stuff? How about self control? u are actually feeding into this vicious cycle by defending such ppl. This just doesn't make any sense.

i really really believe in legalism philosophy. Human really lack of moral compass, only strict law and order can keep them in place. Malaysia right now at its current state will only spiral down further and crime rate will keep raising if we don't do anything right now. We are in this political deadlock where the Malay tak kesah about anything as long as PM is orang kita. While the Chinese trying their very best not to contribute $$$ to government because they felt the government will just songlap everything they give. Whenever a police try to saman the citizen they will either felt "fuck man I'm already poor u still saman. U want me to die??" Or "shit don't pay saman. Cilaka police just wanna makan duit" or even "police saman cos election coming, government need money". Too many reason, none of them address about why u commit the crime in the first place. No one defend the law enforcer.

Give me an example of where this form of legalism has worked? rolleyes.gif Saudi? rolleyes.gif

Repression works a while, until a point it explodes & people do things much worse than they would normally have.

You lived in India, care to share how its so much better than us at handling social problems?

Really? Our government been encouraging bigger families, more children all this while. Quantity over quality. Maternity leave rules are still pathetic & so are other laws related directly to family life encouragement. Malaysians are already mostly sucking it up & managing on their own when it comes to this matter, contrary to your own perception.
