Cool. I only got 6 at the moment. Am coincidentally going to Aceh in July(tickets were bought even before I did my OW in April). Don't know whether I should consider a dive there or not. Is it doable? Or not advisable for newbies.

My buoyancy seemed fine, until I got to Mabul. Did DSD there. When I did my OW in Sapi, was given a weight belt with 8 weights, was told it was 8kgs. Descended easy with controlled breathing and some finning. The same when I did my fun dive also in Sapi a few weeks after. However, when I got to Mabul. They told me that each of their weight was 2.5kgs so they gave me like 4, inserted into the BCD's pocket. Was extremely difficult for me to descend. Wondering whether the weights were 2.5kgs each or just 1kg.
*
water is saltier and more buoyant in Mabul? that's my theory, i face the same problem.

or the guy got confused btw KGs and pounds.

ghostshellzeagle scout. LIGHTWEIGHT, EASY TO MANAGE AND MOST IMPORTANTLY DRY VERY FAST. TRUST ME you will want your BCD to dry FAST!
You can thank me later.
*
teach me how to dry my Scout fast... when back home it's hanging for more than a week before it's somewhat dry. What's the steps you guys you do. i will usually open the dump valve (2) to drain faster

for travel, some people use one of the Aqualung models, i think Zuma Travel, very light and folds small. but for me its too flimsy. sure koyak with rough use.

Ladies and gents,

I think I've asked this before but did not get an answer. Would like to ask for opinions.I am considering getting an action camera for dives. Googling around suggest getting a Yi 4K HD as it is said to be equivalent to a Gopro Hero 6 but at a much lower price point. So am considering getting this. Anyone had any experience using this for diving? Or should I just go for a Gopro Hero 5?
*
yes. dont waste money with the Xiaomi / SJCAM and all the other China brands. GoPro given the budget.

that being said, the Eken 8 isnt that bad, my nephew's one still going strong after couple of years. Paired with red filter, would be super. Land video, excellent, especially the time i went para-sailing!

Just did my AOW at Bigfin divers Kota Belud last weekend.

Very unlucky day as it was the day that the typhoon wrecked Hong Kong and Kota Belud sort of affected. As soon as i arrived it was already raining heavily. The waves were strong, water was quite choppy. Visibility wasn't that great. Vomited for all 5 of my dives laugh.gif Even vomited underwater when doing PPB. My mistake for not taking any seasick medication beforehand either.

But my (last) Fish ID Dive at Mayne's Reef was the best. Loads of reefs everywhere. Visibility was much better here. Hope to return again during non rainy seasons.
*
Nice to hear reef healthy; will bring my cert card when i go to Kota Belud in December smile.gif

Hello !

There's some stuffs I'm not certain about , would like to ask for opinions.

So I'm short sighted perhaps -0.5.
Astigmatism is about 0.75.

So far I've not been diving with contact lenses at all.

If I'm on land / daily activities , wearing my glasses will make me see colors more sharp / colorful as it helps my eye to focus.

What about in the water ?
Will Toric lenses improve colors in the water as it helps my eye focus better ?
*
contact lens and powered mask will definitely make your experience better. I been using prescription mask happily, yes, you must invest.

After a series of mishaps with my eyes, i now dont need presc mask, yahoo... can wear all shapes and colours now smile.gif) Having a Mares X Liquid Skin now.. so comfy.. and low volume.

Not planning on prescription mask. my short sighted is self corrected in water , just my astigmatism.

I'm wondering in more of color / sharpness perspective.

Series of mishaps = no need presc mask ? How you FIXED your eyes with a SERIES of MISHAPS ?
*
My prescr mask did not have Astig correction. maybe u pinjam someones mask first and see how it affects. I find presc mask did make things more clear and colourful.

My eyes... well... one side i had a retinal detachment surgery + lens replacement, and right eye, lens replacement due to cataract growth. so, these issues meant, good thing, i can use normal mask. Astigmatism, i cant tell if affected. i dont think presc mask corrects astigmatism.

Interesting! I'm at risk of retinal detachment too due to my high myopia... One day if i need to go for surgery i will surely ask you for some life advice smile.gif
*
Ask your specialist, if they say go for it, then, do it pronto! mine, was emergency, i had a tear, so now my vision in one eye is impaired. so IMO, preventive is better, easier, cos they will just laser everything back together without effect on eye-sight.

Any recommended dive centre? Heading to Brunei in March for an over weekend trip. So could probably squeeze in a dive or 2 on the Friday evening.

fill SMB with exhaled air from second stage. less things to grapple with and it's more gradual, so doesnt shoot up. anways, if you have a grip on the reel, there's no worry about you following the smb up. just let it go... float up and be free... into the sunlight it goes...

hi
Any recommendation of scuba centre for Open Water?
i need something cheap and affordable. preferably near to Johor tq
*
Cheap? Affordable? Wrong sport, my dear.

You can check Tioman out. good for OW, shallow and calm waters, really chill diving.

Ask at Salang Bay Divers (my last dive centre), Abect also gets good reviews.

PM me for DC to avoid... haha. This is important info too

please find the better deal, not the cheapest deal.

dive centres with leaking BCD, exploding regulators, malfunctioning ones - imagine if you are swallowing water during dive, or no air coming through when you are down under.

your budget should be around 1500 upwards to include accom and travel costs. Diving as a whole is not cheap and you have to factor that in to your planning - equipment purchase cost, trips you want to go to exotic beautiful places to see that special something.

anyone taken OWD course + dorm accommodation at Mamutik Island with Borneo Divers in KK?
Mind to share the experience there?

Hunting for a package in either KK or Mabul at year end
It's a bit difficult for solo traveler like me, as most packaged rooms are for twin sharing, hard to find single room unless you're willing to pay extra surcharge
*
Borneo Divers KK is okay, have gone with them a couple of times. Dorm packaged in, ok la. You can also inquire with Diverse Borneo

Scuba Junkie Semporna also good, and accommodation shouldnt be a problem, plenty hotels to choose from. Make them take you to the Tun Sankaran park and islands, nice and less boats.
