there's this big fan with Low rpm to suck air from front towards CPU which is attached with a really big heatsink, and exhaust to the back of the casing.

see pic below.... Precision 380.

Dell has been using BTX ever since they had a fair number of RMA issues after they first started selling systems using Prescott (and its relatives). BTX is brilliant in cooling, but too strict in design-even motherboard components must follow exactly as Intel specified it. This doesn't work out with enthusiast systems and especially AMD systems as the component layout is different-particularly that for AMD systems the ram is very close to the processor because the memory controller is on the CPU. And if I'm not mistaken to use BTX Intel collects licencing fees. Overall its a flop, even Intel isn't backing up the design much anymore.

Yeah, if only Intel were serious in promoting and telling other manufacturers to use BTX.
That way, BTX will be made famous.
But then, just like what you said that intel isn't backing up the design much anymore, there's nothing we can do. sleep.gif

I have saw the Dell computer, those run on P4 procs. They are actaully using a fan to suck out the heat from the processor's heatsink there.I didn't see any other more fans inside the casing there. The casing is the mid tower casing. But the fan is not really noisy as i think they are running at low speed only.

even Dell AMD based c521 and e521 is btx-based design. they are really cool and quiet, really suitable for basic computer usage and mild gaming

Does anybody know how fast the fans are running? low rpm means how low? How do I control my fan speed without any 3rd party fan controller?

Heh, for the Nehalem processor even intel will be in trouble. Proc will have memory controller integrated, memory will too far away from processor to keep trace length short enough for high ram speeds. To make things worse it will probably be running DDR3 which will be much higher than DDR1000..

Use Speedfan (free download, google for it)

Make sure you read though the WHOLE help file before asking questions. Its quite short, so no excuses.

wait till you see how dell packed a C2D E6600 into a compact sub-SFF Optiplex 745 case that even carries its own power supply unit.

it runs unbielevilably quiet and stays cool most of the time in normal ambient temperature

lemme take a snap when i'm in office tomorrow

edit: the SFF has hdd, DVD, and even an FDD to boot. generous 8 usb ports and even legacy parallel and serial ports. it has 4 ram banks (heck, it's a full sized mobo) and is able to run dual channel.

with such components and features...salute
my DELL SBE servers and Dimension 3100 which inside cooling unit similar to the pic u all post, the brand of the fan,its quite and efficient...arghh memory block! forgot the brand
