by the meaning of "ideal", I'd say getting paid 10k for doing nothing.

But to be honest, it depends on the industry, ranging from 2.5k to 3.5k, with exceptions to some highly sought after positions with high requirements.

p.s. I'm guessing

This is sound reasonable for me for fresh.

What happened to our country now? When I started my career more than 10 years back I was easily earn basic salary RM3.5k

Nowadays still also that range RM2.5k with all the gst, sst, and many things up..

And to show how badly fked Malaysian graduates are,

Someone 10 years your senior were already earning RM2200/month back in the year 1995.

That's roughly 4.2k in 2017 if we adjust for inflation!

And a ringgit back then can stretch a long way compared to now, due to the lack of GST back then, property prices weren't as insane as it is now and USD:MYR rate was around 1:2.5. So even if fresh grads were to earn 4.2k today, their spending power is a far cry from what a fresh grad earning 2.2k could spend on back in 1995.

Wow 1995 also RM2200 for fresh graduate with no issue about PTPTN or any debt at all. Mostly our time it just based on JPA, MARA which later converted to scholar. I believe the government have good money at that time.

So for fresh graduate think wisely and harder about your future? It is your time and the game for the life it just begin.

It depends on industry. The technical industry like programmers, engineers etc - have a higher basic salary due to the technical know-how and also because of the nature of the industry.

Banks also give fresh graduates a good basic - between RM2.8k to RM3k+. However increment for each year is a low incline. These are hearsay from a lot of friends who used to work with banks after they graduated.

As for the average administrative role, a local Chinaman will usually fork out between RM1.6k to RM2.3k for freshies. MNCs will definitely give you a higher pay.

Employer's point of view should be just enough for you to cover public transportation, basic food expenses and some pocket money.

Employee's point of view should be above other fresh graduates' pay.

Come on, this is an open questions and too many possible answers.

there are ppl out there who need to feed 6 kids with 900 bucks monthly salary

quite honestly, your lifestyle will grow to fill whatever income you get

some ppl are earning 20k and they complain it's not enough. but there are also hardcore poor who managed with sub 1k

now to answer your question - the ideal salary is the highest u can get at the moment. forget 'i can't survive with low salary' or 'i have 5 cats at home to feed'. employers have no interest in giving u more money to make u happy.

When you ask the wrong question, you will get the wrong answer.

The ideal question is, what is the market demand (implying market-driven salary) for the position I am working at "now"?

ideal starting salary more important or ideal career advancement more important?

back to times for my first job in a MNC, year 2011~12, my starting pay is 1800 as i am holding Diploma, those enter same time with me which holding degree get 2800.

within 3 years my salary jump from 1800 to 4250, which depends on effort and hardwork
those enter with 2800, is either getting 3700 or same 4250
