Hi guys, recently my Toyota Vios (NCP93) year 2012 will knock during acceleration but mainly during hot weather or climbing hill will notice more.  I had done general overhaul, washed injector, replaced new spark plug, new filter and visited few mechanic in my local area all seems no solution and changed to use RON97 but still the knocking never go away.  After general overhaul mechanic recommend me to use 10W40 and change every 5000k mileage.  Reason I perform general overhaul is because in the beginning I plan to perform top overhaul only but after the mechanic remove the top he suspected the piston do slap so he suggest general overhaul.  Before general overhaul there was a knocking too.

There is one mechanic told me this knocking happens to every NCP93(I believe is nonsense).

I wonder any NCP93 owner face the same issue as mine? 
Would highly appreciated any input from you guys.

Hi, few years ago I ever used Brisk Premium Evo but was told the heat range doesn't fit my car by Toyota service center so now only I use original denso spark plug only.  I actually not much hunger for more power but somehow I do understand lack of power do relate to knocking as well.  Do your knocking go away after change to bosch super 4 or denso iridium spark plug?

I do plan to give denso iridium spark plug to give it a try but which type is more suitable as I don't know how to make sure the heat range suit for my car?  Afraid heat range not fit later got issue again haha.

Bro I saw other forum some said better use IK16 rather than IK20.  Some said IK20 might have issue for long run but not sure about that.  Your engine got modify ka?  Mine no modify.  May I know since when your vios knocking?  You using Denso Iridium or Bosch Super 4 ya?

I see.. personally my car recently just perform general overhaul with 0.50 piston(slight bigger piston) and the boss told me will have slight increase a little bit horsepower. Not sure this case IK20 should be more suitable than IK16    How long have you been using IK20 ya?

I did something lidat. Mind you, when I bought 2008 Vios, it only had 3 yrs warranty.

Within 3 years, I serviced with them.

After 3 yrs, it was a mixture of Toyota SC and outside. Most important thing is to follow the manual. If it says xx,xxx km only change oil + filter then I went to nearby outside workshop with lubricant of my choosing.

Just pay attention that at certain multiple 40k or 60k (can't recall), some vital things need to be replaced. Like fuel filter, automatic transmission oil, etc. For this one, I went to SC and followed the checklist.

Maybe can do outside also as long as you follow the preventive maintenance checklist.

Up to you. My 2008 dugong is touching 360,000 soon. No major repairs so far. Just typical wear & tear like replacing suspension, aircon belt, lidat.

Worse nightmare is gearbox rosak or fuel filter contaminate, etc. So far don't have, touch wood.

Of course there are trivial but annoying issues like alarm like to engage randomly (I disabled, otherwise angry neighbour), radio sometimes refuses to on. Can live without these issues but not a dealbreaker for poor fag like me : )

Mine about 100,000km more than yours coz I used to work in east coast and drove to KL/N9 often (balik kampung). Now no more.

Ok I remember replacing "engine top gasket" as well. It was being advised by workshop and SC coz there were black residues visible. I assume those were engine oil. If you need to top up, maybe this is problem? After all, head gasket considered wear&tear item as well.

Just sent my 2008 NCP93 Dugong to SC Tmn Midah for 360k service. Decided to only change ATF oil and brake oil. Engine oil change will do outside since I insist on using my own Shell Helix that I bought from Giant and that particular SC refused to do it (new policy katanya?).

Part of this Advance Max Check also includes preventive checks so they told me my rear brakes oredi thinning. They quoted RM340 for parts & service. I declined and now researching on Shopee for NCP93 rear brake then will have my normal workshop to replace it. This is the correct way to do it, right?
