Hi guys. A large thread here to read through so pardon my questions.

I am interested in getting digi infinite 150 to add wifi connection for a study room. Most of the time there are fewer than 10 people using the room.

I am thinking of buying this:
https://www.lazada.com.my/huawei-b593-b593u....67a8e01eSoEaxs

I'll be happy if the speed can reach 20-30Mbps (If this is all I require should I go with a cheaper modem router?). I have checked the coverage area on digi's website and 4G is supported if indoor. If outdoor 4G LTE-A is supported.

1. I read that digi infinite allows up to 5 devices for tethering.. does that include every single devices connected to the wifi of the 4g router?

2. I am not familiar with 4g modem/routers. Is there a bandwidth control feature on them? e.g. put a speed limitation to certain ip or ip range.

3. Do these 4g routers with LAN ports support adding another wifi access point?

Thanks for your time.

you can only know if you buy a prepaid card and test the download speed, it is impossible to tell if your area is congested. If any of your housemate use digi, ask him/her to test it. Better subscribe daily data for testing because speedtest consumes alot of data while testing speed.

normal routers don't have bandwidth control per user, don't know which router supports this feature

4g router lan ports can support access point, i use "TP-LINK Repeater WiFi Wireless Range Extender/Booster New Ver WA855RE" to extend wifi range via LAN port. You need abit of networking knowledge to setup this model (LAN mode) because there is no instruction in the manual.

aight, thanks for the reply!

what's the highest ever speedtest result for digi infinite that you guys have seen? just curious

Finally subscribed to infinite 150, using it on Archer MR200.
Not for my personal use (for a study room as I mentioned before) so my experience with is so far is brief.
Max speed on speedtest so far is 52Mbps dl/ 9+Mbps ul and that was at 1AM.
During lunch hour when I tested it was 10Mbps+, at 4PM it was 20Mbps+
Signal fluctuates between 3 to 4. Probably should do more tests.

There is a video on youtube showing a guy in the UK getting 100Mbps+ with the MR200 on various telcos.

If I use an LTE-A modem, will it instantly improve the speed if I put at the same location, test it at the same time and all that? Just curious.

Hi, just ordered the sim card.

I have not yet bought a modem. I am thinking of an outdoor antenna setup to reduce EM radiation within the house. I have a fully wired ethernet network throughout the entire house. My original plan was to get unifi until I found out it was not available in our area due to insufficient ports.

Appreciate any help in the choice of modem router, cable (from router to the antenna) and antenna! I have already prepared a conduit from my store room (where all my networking equipment is stored) to the outside, so it's just a matter of getting the right equipment.

My fallback plan is to install a Huawei B310 upstairs in the attic. Cheap and easy solution - it limits the effect of radiation somewhat by placing it away from the living areas.

Something like this perhaps?

can fast forward towards the end to see the result

that's pretty impressive. speed jumped from 20Mbps to 70Mbps just by using a better modem ...
do you get that speed consistently?

Thanks cannavaro. I don't know whether there are 4g modem routers that can utilise the antenna though. I'll inquire with the guy who made the video.
*
you won't have to connect the antenna to your modem router.
there is an indoor antenna in the set up like the photo below:

I finally buy the  TPLink MR200... and I am super happy with the signal reception. Putting at same location with my cellphone get 2~3bar and able to download at 4G no problem. With me cellphone direct jump back 3G and 4G-1Bar..

so the big 4G antenna does works... It does improve receiving strength... with the MR200, I am always connected to 4G.. happy....

Best location found... which is at the back of the house. setup my MR200 on windows facing behind the house can yeild max ~25mbps dl... happy. but living room ground floor suffer abit.. still can get max 10mbps...

super happy and I can say I recommend this type of big antenna 4G router if your house digi signal keep jumping 4g to 3G....
I tested only with prepaid... later I will go sign up the 150infinite. Cheers...

Also, I see you guys discussion on the setting to keep the signal at high speed? please advice if can set for the MR200??  thumbup.gif
*
I have the MR200 and the only 'signal setting' that I know is to set either 'only 3g' or 'only 4g' mode. Default is 'auto'.

DWR-921 you mean? Can't find a lte modem router by dlink called DW 192 laugh.gif
Dlink's equivalent of tplink's MR200 is DWR-118
http://www.dlink.com.my/product/ac750-dual...er/#nf_overview

Cheaper than MR200 on lazada.
This seems like a good deal, free usb modem: https://www.lazada.com.my/d-link-4g-lte-mod....75342244xoq26L
edit: just realized you actually need the usb modem for it to work with sim card

And there are coupons you can use right now to make it cheaper.

The MR200 can support up to 64 devices
I've no idea about this dlink, couldn't find the info.

not sure about which one pulls data the strongest, but on paper the mr200 is better, at least for these parts:
dwr 921 supports 32 devices vs 64 devices on mr200
dwr 921 is single band vs dual band on mr200

the specs for lte looks similar
https://www.tp-link.com/uk/products/details...#specifications
http://www.dlink.com/uk/en/products/dwr-92...-router#support

personally I prefer tplink

damn it my account kena that unauthorized charge, "DOB for fortumo" for some stupid game. RM3.99 for 7 days.
The simcard was always in the router, I don't think someone accidentally subscribed to it?I googled about it and see many reports on this.

How easy is it to get Digi to refund the charges without having to report to MCMC, if anyone knows?

It's not easy to get a refund from DiGi for these kind of unauthorized charges, even if you lodge a report and complain to MCMC, regarding the matter. Just try you luck and see what happens.

I see.. you experienced it before eh?

If your sim in router, that means you are on hotspot ? Could some one else accidentally subscribed when using the hotspot?
*
For this kind of service, normally you need TAC number right?
Or is it as simple as... connect to the wifi using a phone pc or whatever, go to some dodgy website and click something and somehow they can charge the account? sweat.gif
One of the replies from Digi to someone else having this issue is something like this - "change the billing settings in your google play from 'charge to bill' to credit card/etc"

Viu, gamexxxx, & etc...charges around RM3.x. RM4.x, & RM5.x. if sim in modem mostly will got this charges.

and if we notify or check sms inside modem, then it auto renew everyweek...Sia...

wow... I was surprised when I saw the many sms in the modem, saying will auto renew. There is also a cancel link. I did that as well as the 'STOP ALL' text. Then I received a msg saying I've been unsubscribed from viu or something. Does this mean someone 'subscribed' via viu? I'm not familiar with how viu works.
Can you show me one such link? (where one can click and automatically be charged to the bill)

Digi Infinite 150 is a recycle no. and it seems this is happening quite frequently. It also happened to me but I was lucky to find out earlier and wasted RM 1 for this. Managed to find out the root cause and stop the service. Mine is due to Bangla voice mail, so I stopped the service and disabled voice mail.

Though I have told Digi is unacceptable because they should have cleansed up the no. and reset all to like new number without any previous user's subscriptions. Well, I don't know if they listened, since mine has no more issue, I didn't pursue further. I guess you guys can complain to Digi and MCMC if required.

Im quoting thse old posts to relate to a new incident

As expected they were not helpful at all, ask me to contact the provider instead.
I have reported to MCMC, waiting for them to reply.

you just google 'digi dob for fortumo' and can see many complaints on digi forum about this scam
one such thread, same case, sim card in router, suddenly got charged:
