I have just bought Biostar Tforce 965PT and I noticed that mostly new Mobo with Intel 965PT chipset thesedays comes with only 1 IDE port..the rest are SATA slots.

I still own a DVD-RW drive which still utilise IDE and also 200GB WD IDE drive which i dont want to upgrade to SATA.

Dilemma was to put the 200GB IDE and the DVD-RW on 1 IDE cable. This is because performance and lag problem occurs whilst accessing the DVDR-W .

I was searching for IDE to SATA bridge converter which can either convert either my 200GB IDE or the DVD-RW drive into SATA compliant drive.

After searching thru google..i found the product..

user posted image

This product saved my from buying a SATA DVR-W or a new SATA drive. Also i can save one of pci slot (if i use pci-IDE/raid)

Setting up was bit troublesome (jumper setting need to be set at master on drive) for this to work.

But all in all it works great! Btw i use the ide to sata converter on my DVD-RW drive rather then my 200GB ide.

Anyone try this device before..? IS it selling at lowyat?

Dunno if i want to a bulk.. i dun if i can cheaper i probably consider. Just want to share this great product.

Im still testing it. Before this I did a test on my IDE drive..but perfomance increase only a bit.. 1-2%. Thats why i connect it to my DVDRW drive.

Actually item look more like this :

and draws power from floppy type power connector. Doesnt come with any manual or instruction. only with 1 sata cable and floppy to 4 pin power adapter.

Also uses Jmicron SATA controller chipset. after install reboot dvd-rw now detected as SATA device.. rclxms.gif

Setting up actually is difficult.. because have to play with device jumpers. I finally got it working if i set my device jumper on the drive at MASTER. (no instruction manual rclxub.gif )

Once setup properlly works great! I now use it for my LG-4163B DVDRW and have now burn many DVD without problem. rclxms.gif

I had to peel a QC CHECK sticker on the chip to find out the brand chipset. I prefer SIliconImage then Jmicron for some reason. blush.gif

I also notice when sometimes reboot my mobo doesnt detect the device..after shutdown properly and power up again..device detect properly.

Your have same problem?

I almost gave up too.. but i brought it back to the shop's technician and he managed to make it work..according to him need to experiment with jumpers. with some patience i got it too work after few minutes.

The reason why i uses this rather then my raid card is because i cant disable my raid card bios check (takes 4-5secs on boot) mad.gif .. with this device boot is so much faster now..and i can save 1 pci slot. biggrin.gif

I like the casing..protects the PCB.. my version doesnt have the plastic casing..sometimes i worry when i try to remove it from PATA connector

I think my version works both ways.. IDE to SATA or SATA to IDE (why wud u wanna do that?) unless u have only sata hdd and have limited sata slot but many ide slot.. doh.gif

There's 2 types... one plugs into the mobo's IDE port to turn it for sata output... the other is the one you guys discussing here... to turn IDE device into SATA.

yeah, i bought mine at rm55. since the shop techs also can't prove the thing works, i get to change it with a DVD rom plus top up.

nevertheless, it's pretty cool if i could use converters to convert both my pata hds. right now casing is a mess with 3 IDE cable.

this is a OEM Product by Gigabyte, meaning u can't easily get it by simply order the things like say from E-Bay or any other shops... nod.gif

I had no idea how Silpheed got those converter sweat.gif

I'm using the same Abit too, use it on my old Maxtor 80GB for storage. The HDD perform slightly better than using IDE.

so u're the one that bought 2 units of it, rite hmm.gif sweat.gif

there's one draw back, these converters either way have to take away one floppy type power connector.

so it means the more old IDE devices you have, the bigger the PSU u have to get to get so many floppy power splitters.

i found one on my local pc shop..comes with jmicron chipset on the converter..cost me rm45

it works but works in a rather unusual way..plug in everything start pc it cant be detected. Weird huh..den jus restart n b4 the mobo get to the point showing the mobo name press del to enter bios thing faster remove the power source to the converter n faster plug in back..den it can be detected

hav to do this all the time wen pc starts..not a very convenient way at all coz once shutdown kenot detect itself again

i no idea wat cause it..mebb the converter doesnt work tat well on sata2?
