VideoEzy have already start stocking HD-DVDs in their premise. From the cover, looks like they are stocking the PAL/EU version, either from UK or Australia.

Going to Los Angeles and Miami in less than 14 days, anybody wanna kirim HDDVD are welcome to do so. I've run out of slots for anything else, smallish items or hardware, since i'll be bringing in a couple of US PS3s, BDP-S300, and 360 HDDVD addons using my staff cargo allocation.

LOS ANGELES - Paramount Pictures and DreamWorks Animation SKG announced Monday that they will offer next-generation DVDs in the HD DVD format rather than Blu-ray, a move that further complicates the race between the competing technologies.

The move by the two studios will include the upcoming blockbuster "Shrek the Third" and all movies distributed by Paramount Pictures, DreamWorks Pictures, Paramount Vantage, Nickelodeon Movies and MTV Films, as well as movies from DreamWorks Animation, which are distributed exclusively by Paramount Home Entertainment.

"Part of our vision is to aggressively extend our movies beyond the theater, and deliver the quality and features that appeal to our audience," said Brad Grey, chairman and chief executive of Paramount Pictures. "I believe HD DVD is not only the affordable high quality choice for consumers, but also the smart choice for Paramount."

The competition between Blu-ray and HD DVD has kept confused consumers from rushing to buy new DVD players until they can determine which format will dominate the market.

Studios and retailers have been choosing sides.

"Spider-Man 3" will only be available in the Blu-ray DVD format when it is released by Sony Pictures.

Likewise, people with Blu-ray players won't be able to enjoy the action-thriller "The Bourne Ultimatum," which Universal Pictures will release only in HD DVD.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hmmmmm, i hope this does not mean that this year's sizzler, Transformers, going HD-DVD exclusive. If it does, it's a huge major exclusive for the HD-DVD camp, against the winter release this year.

Paramount and DreamWorks Animation Each Declare Exclusive Support for HD DVD

Movies Distributed by Paramount Home Entertainment Including Paramount
Pictures, DreamWorks Animation SKG, DreamWorks Pictures, Paramount Vantage,
Nickelodeon Movies and MTV Films to be Released Exclusively in HD DVD
Exclusive Program To Begin with Release of "Blades of Glory," Followed by
"Transformers" and "Shrek the Third," Films Representing More Than $1.5
Billion in Combined Worldwide Box Office

    LOS ANGELES, Aug. 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Paramount Pictures, a
unit of Viacom Inc. (NYSE: VIA and VIA.B) and DreamWorks Animation SKG
(NYSE: DWA), each announced today that they will exclusively support the
next-generation HD DVD format on a worldwide basis. The exclusive HD DVD
commitment will include all movies distributed by Paramount Pictures,
DreamWorks Pictures, Paramount Vantage, Nickelodeon Movies and MTV Films,
as well as movies from DreamWorks Animation, which are distributed
exclusively by Paramount Home Entertainment.
The companies each said that the decision to distribute exclusively in
the HD DVD format resulted from an extensive evaluation of current market
offerings, which confirmed the clear benefits of HD DVD, particularly its
market-ready technology and lower manufacturing costs. Paramount Home
Entertainment will launch its exclusive HD DVD program with the release of
the blockbuster comedy hit "Blades of Glory" on August 28th and follow with
two of the biggest grossing movies of the year "Transformers" and "Shrek
the Third". These three titles alone represent more than $1.5 billion in
box office ticket sales worldwide.
"The combination of Paramount and DreamWorks Animation brings a
critical mass of current box office hits to consumers with a line-up of
live action and animated films that are perfect for HD DVD," stated Brad
Grey, Chairman and CEO of Paramount Pictures, which is currently the
leading studio in domestic box office. "Part of our vision is to
aggressively extend our movies beyond the theater, and deliver the quality
and features that appeal to our audience. I believe HD DVD is not only the
affordable high quality choice for consumers, but also the smart choice for
Paramount."
"We decided to release "Shrek the Third" and other DreamWorks Animation
titles exclusively on HD DVD because we believe it is the best format to
bring high quality home entertainment to a key segment of our audience --
families," stated DreamWorks Animation CEO, Jeffrey Katzenberg. "We believe
the combination of this year's low-priced HD DVD players and the commitment
to release a significant number of hit titles in the fall makes HD DVD the
best way to view movies at home."
With the rapid increase of HD TV screens in households, and audiences
wanting to enjoy the total entertainment experience, HD DVD has emerged as
the most affordable way for consumers to watch their movies in high
definition. In addition to pristine quality, HD DVD also offers consumers
the chance to personalize the movie-watching experience, to interact with
their movies and even to connect with a community of other fans.
Paramount Home Entertainment will issue new releases day and date as
well as catalog titles exclusively on HD DVD. Today's announcement does not
include films directed by Steven Spielberg as his films are not exclusive
to either format.

There's a reason for that. Take a look around. smile.gif Might look like the same place, but the "graffitis" are creeping up the walls. wink.gif Time to bail out.

How are you doing? Still shakin' it up in Sunway?

I'd say the best option for those on the fence and thinking on investing only one one format, is to sit it out and see who wins. Buy DVD versions first, and use the upscaling features on the currnt consoles for the time being. See which format suits you best (most probably the format that holds more of your favourite titles) and once the "nuclear fallout" settles, splurge all you want! This generation, it requires a bit of fingerin through movie studios portfolios and title catalogues to see which studio holds what movie, and the rights of distribution in which region.

AVS Forums are a fcukin' RIOT every single time newsfeed like these pops up! The amount of switching, backpedalling and fanboys rushing from one camp to the other, can almost be hilariously ridiculous sometimes! laugh.gif

Fox needs to get heir side(s) right, and quick too....im not waiting any second longer for The Simpsons Movie in glorious HD 2-D no less tongue.gif than i need to. Either camp need to approach the Fox proponents, particularly Lucas. We all know how long he took to release Star Wars on DVDs, and that is one a singular unified format. If history is of any indication, im not surprised if Lucas is happy to sit on his Star Wars goldmine until one side wins, and then releases it on that format.

Not too long after the Pramount/Dreamworks shocking announcement:-

http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/news/show/...lease_Plans/875

QUOTE
Aug 20, 2007 at 03:39 PM ET

After months of silence, Fox Home Entertainment is planning to issue an announcement later today renewing its support for the Blu-ray format, and outlining the studio's upcoming release plans.

The move comes after this morning's shocking revelation that Paramount and DreamWorks have switched allegiances exclusively to rival HD DVD, news which has left those on all sides of the format war blind-sided.

We've just received official confirmation from Fox today that in response to Paramount's announcement, they are currently fast-tracking a press release reiterating their exclusive support for Blu-ray, as well as providing long-awaited details on their future release plans.

Though Fox (who also distributes MGM titles) was one of the early and most vocal major studio backers of Blu-ray, the studio has largely stepped out of the high-def sweepstakes for the past several months. Neither Fox nor MGM has released nor announced a single Blu-ray title on the format since 'Hoosiers' in early March. They also cancelled a huge slate of planned winter high-def releases, including such hits as 'Mr. & Mrs. Smith,' 'From Hell' and 'Me, Myself & Irene,' which have yet to be rescheduled.

We'll certainly keep you posted as soon as Fox's press release is unveiled in the coming hours. Watch this space!

I commute between here and CA. Depending on which day you see me here, if im posting , then most of the time im here in KL. Otherwise, i'd be out of the country.

Been abused (not sexually tongue.gif, but by "friends with benefits" sorta way laugh.gif) into bringing stuff from the States for my close buddies in KL . More often than not, it's software titles like US games, or HD-DVDs/Blu-rays. If i go on extended stay during the year, like what's happening end of this month, i'd use the cargo "staff privileges" to bring in hardware as well. Unfortunately, quota full already, im bringing in a couple of 360 HD-DVD addons, US PS3s (60Gb and 80Gbs), BDP-S300 Blu-ray players, as well as a few HD-A2 and HD-A20s. Those would go via cargo, the software side (games, HD-DVD and Blu-ray titles) are quite a lot to list down. Suffice to say, i cant wait to collect my Bioshock LE XB360, Metroid Prime 3 Corruption, Warhawk with BT headset, Heavenly Sword and Lair for PS3. Might shop for other additional stuff once im around the Orange County area. The Block in OC has a juicy Jc Penneys and Virgin Megastore i have yet to explore. Downtown LA, tak payah cerita lah...loads of EBs, Futureshops and Walmarts!

If you are willing to wait, i can look up the E1 while im in Auckland or Paris next month. I would recommend the E1 over the A2 because of the voltage alone, 220-240V over the 110V .

If you mean software/HD-DVDs/Blu-rays, then i can still help bring them in. Check Amazon for what's available from 08/31 till 09/15, and hit me with your list. Most probably my luggage will be empty, since i'll be dumping them in Newport. So, empty luggage can be filled with HD-DVDs/Blu-rays/games, and the customs wont suspect a thing, since it's still a normal quota for LAX-KUL bound passenger.

If you want games, easy. Write me a list through PM, then i'll see if those titles are there. Before i make the purchase, i'll PM you back, or SMS you while im at the store (SMS still OK, calling.....a bit expensive tongue.gif) the items available, and at what prices. If you agree on the price then ill make the over the counter purchase. If you are talking about Amazon purchase, then send over to my Newport home, that would the most ideal, since shipping through Amazon is free over continental US. First things first, write me a list, then we figure out the best way to do it, agree?

As for the E1, it was on promo sale in Switzerland he last time i got it there, for 300 Euros. I suspect they are clearing it for the nw upcoming Toshiba models, and the rumored 3rd gen. players. Update you next month once im there?

QUOTE(MK84 @ Aug 22 2007, 11:04 AM)
Guys, any recommendation for HD-DVD/BD for demo purpose?
*
My personal recommendation. The list at AVSForum is pretty much the reference list IMO. Animated features usually takes the cake when it comes to PQ, so on both Blu-ray and HD-DVDs, you can try Ice Age 2:Meltdown, Open Season, Corpse Bride, Ant Bully, or Happy Feet . Personally, between those 5, i only like Corpse Bride. Then there is live-action features. For HD-DVD, Hot Fuzz takes the crown for , not just for PQ, but for its humongous 18 hours + extras! For Blu-ray, there are 2 options. Pirates of Caribbean Dead Man's Chest or Crank. The former , besides having the cleanest transfer on any Blu-ray disc, also has the BD-Java game of Liar's Dice, while the latter, Crank, is shot using modified HD camera to achieve that "video-like" look. Notice it's "video-like" not "film-like", once you compare between Crank and other live action movies you will see this difference. Unfortunately, Crank is not so suitable for public viewing, with a few scenes depicting nudity and inappropiate "conducts" in public, as well as gratuitous violence.

All these recommendations, will be superseeded this September, once Nature's Journey arrives on HD-DVD and Blu-ray. On both format , it will sport the highest recorded video bitrate ever for any titles for each of their format, with Blu-ray, having the current advantage of extra capacity, sporting the highest video bitrate of 37Mbps throughout the "journey".

Planet Earth was good while it was released, but overall, it is a bit disappointing, there are scenes where the PQ arent that sharp as expected. The images are extremely interesting and a crowd-puller, like the scenes about the flights of migratin bird, and the scenes about the baby bird being pushed out of the nest to encourage them to fly,....that got the crowd mulling about the front of Mediaplex when that scene came! laugh.gif But next month, the new king will arrive.

I've used DHL, Fedex, UPS, US Postal Service, hand carried by colleague (read member pergi NY buy some Apple & Grado stuff) tongue.gif

Hand carried is best, if you can trust the fella, and he can get your stuff past customs. But for other choices of couriers, DHL is the best, and i have nothing but problems with Fedex. The DHL folks are more likely to want to release your package faster and without any drama, while the Fedex guys are too "lurus" to even consider bending the rules.

It is the other way round in the States though. Maybe it's cnfined to where my place is , but in Newport, the Fedex guys are the most reliable ones around, while the UPS are the crappiest. DHL is somewhere in between. Got a few of my ordered stuff online from Crutchfield, Vans and even Amazon shipped overnight by the Fedex folks, so i have no complaints there.

Rx330, im going to Paris tonight, MH20 this midnight, maybe i can squeeze in a little extra time trawling Champ Elysees and other shopping district here to see if the Toshiba deal is still on. Historically, online deals are the cheapest since they dont have to deal with operating cost from a storefront, bu occasionally there are stores who got wind of new stocks coming out and got into gear with clearance sale of their own. It can look like a firesale sometimes, espcially during Black Friday in the States, but it's nothing to worry about, it is legit, it is warranty covered, and it is normal to see prices drop to such levels. However, i cant promse i can look around Paris for the deal, got a pretty busy day in Disneyland Paris. Annual Passholder privileges, they're rolling the red carpet for Ratatouille screening inside Walt Disney Studios .I'll try and see if i can get away after the screening to go downtown Paris, yah?

Next month schedule like this. MH131 Auckland 09/18-09/20, MH20 Paris 09/23-09/26. Got another Tokyo coming after that, but Akihabara shopping is pretty pricey, from what i've looked around.

What JAV Blu-ray titles? Can PM me aaa? I'll go look see look see when im there.

No worries lah, RX330, i can go look tomorrow once im there, and then see if the price is right for you. Im coming back Paris next month, so you can have plenty of time to decide by then.

Silencer,

There are rumors rumbling on a huge announcement to benefit the BDA, from one of the post in the BD section at AVSForum. Speculations from Warner going BD exclusive, New Line going BD exclusive, to Walmart going to sell BD players ONLY exclusively too. Now, the Walmart thing is not to be taken lightly, since they cover the retail superstore sections pretty extensively in the States.

Im gonna wait and see how the Gen3 players do irst before taking the plunge agan. Should this happens, someone's gonna be pretty lucky to get the E1 im selling below RM900. Not al this RM2499 overpriced crap. Guess that clearane sale in Zurich has its silver lining.

G5sim, giddy as a schoolgirl i am! Either way, the consumers are the winners here.

Right, off to pack the luggages. Those who had your "tumpang item" listed with me, i'll update their status to you via PM once im there. The luggages are going to be really empty on the way back.
