Some competition is good for the market and consumers. If the high def market got blu ray aje, it will be like one ring rules all. Competition will result in better products which are competitively priced, it's like XBOX 360 versus PS3, when they try to outdo each other, we stand to gain what, isn't it?

For me, I stay neutral since my favourite movies are on both formats so I got nothing to say.

Maybe they are trying to clear off the HD DVD players and disc inventory though. No offence, just a guess.
*
It should be more like they want every home to have a hd-dvd player, which plays all your dvds and the new hd-dvds at an affordable price.

The HD DVD players are so cheap from Amazon but . but I won't buy it because of the 110v but anyone knows if there is a shop that brings in the HK version of their Toshiba A3 (220v/240v) equivalent here to Malaysia?
*
Sadly no, guess we have to wait for Toshiba Malaysia to bring the latest model here. I still prefer getting a local model if the price is right and I'm not bothered whether blu-ray wins or not as I'm neutral, I support both formats as long as the players are affordable and have no playback problems, it's fine with me.

What lousy piece of crap... Matrix trilogy, Batman Begins, Blade Runner, The Last Samurai, Training Day, 300, Troy are  AAA+++ titles la wei. And that's just from 1 page only. In total there's like 6-7 pages rclxs0.gif
*
Agree with Bro Arj, those are 'AAA' titles and it's a bargain to those who has just joined the hd-dvd bandwagon. Come to think of it, it's a lot cheaper buying an original region 1 dvd last time.

how to put this in a friendly way...uhhh...

to a person who doesn't have the adequate amount of money in the bank, even maggi is expensive woooo..

so whether the PS3 is bloody expensive or bloody cheap depends on the dough they have at the moment/all year.

but to be fair bro...maybe NOW bloody expensive la. who knows, suddenly bank can allow me to say PS3 so blardi blardi cheap like buying ais kosong.  biggrin.gif

whatev it is: x360 gaming first, then only think of ps3 as a movie center. the game playing ability is an additional thing to me.
*
Well, you don't really need to buy a PS3 to watch high def, standard dvds are good enough unless you have all the equipment to enjoy the high def experience. I've seen people buying a PS3 and watch blu-rays on a standard definition CRT tv. That's pure waste of money.

HD-DVD might be on life support but it's just rumours, it might not be true that Toshiba is giving up for good.

Guys, please don't go sign0006.gif here. Lets stick back to the topic. Shouldn't we be discussing what's the impact on hd-dvd softwares when Toshiba announced that they're going to pull out. Will this affect the fate of the upcoming Samsung blu-ray / hd-dvd combo players and what about existing hd-dvd softwares, will they vanish after they're all sold at half price or less.

I just ordered a couple of HD-DVD movies recently but what the heck, I'll keep them, not planning to sell them away including the XBOX 360 HD-DVD add on drive. Can show them one day to my grandchildren how HD-DVD looks like. It will be a collector's item like laserdiscs. My friend has kept his RM4,000 plus Pioneer Elite Laserdisc player until now and his personal collection, about 200 titles. He bought them at RM15 each from a former laserdisc rental shop. How nice if HD-DVD titles are around that price, I wouldn't mind buying them since HD-DVD PQ and SQ are both comparable to Blu-Ray, it ain't the inferior format here despite the limited disc space.

This thread is as dead as the format. tongue.gif

If anyone knows any good deals on hd-dvd player, pls post them here. I'm on the lookout for one. Thinking of getting the A30/E30. Best i've seen is the ones at b&h photo at US$165 pre-shipping cost.
*
I'm also on the lookout for one as well. At dirt cheap price, it doesn't really matter whether the format is still alive or not but there are enough existing hd-dvd movies to keep me occupied and if Amazon sells them all at 50% or less, it's worth getting them compared to those original dvds sold at Speedy.

Anyway, anyone who wants to sell his hd-dvd titles, you may contact me personal via PM and if I'm interested in any of the titles, I'll be interested to buy them from you. Just sapu-ed a couple of hd-dvd titles from my friends, they hit the panic button and sold everything away, crossing over to the blu-ray side. Me still neutral lah, even with blu-ray only, they haven't won the war yet unless they have a sizeable market to crush dvds first and don't forget most of the special editions, extended cuts or unrated versions are only out on standard dvds. You don't get Pearl Harbor Director's Cut on blu-ray, you certainly don't get King Kong Extended Version on hd-dvd either but only on standard dvds.

If you can get it at dirt cheap price, I would encourage you to go for it. Even if you don't have HD DVD to play, its an excellent upconvert DVD player for your SD DVD. I have a Toshiba HD-DVD player, and can vouch for that. Although I'm sad that I might not get new movies on HD, I'm still going to enjoy the excellent upconvert feature of the Toshiba player.
*
Well, have changed my mind, since I'm getting a Yamaha RX-V1800 AV amp, it has the same Anchor Bay upscaling chip as the Toshiba HD-A35 so I guess I don't need to buy a hd-dvd player, can use the amp for this purpose. Don't get me wrong, I'm still keeping my hd-dvd collection. Don't forget that Universal and Paramount didn't say they will join the blu-ray camp yet and they could still release movies for this format since there's a substantial market base. Remember Dreamcast, when Sega decided to call it quits, there were still games for it till last year. Anything is possible.

Maybe that amount doesn't include XBOX 360's HD-DVD Add On accessory. Just a wild guess.

@sunauto, I already sent your movie via PosLaju, check your pm for tracking number. Thank You.
*
Thanks bro, got your PM. That was fast. So, if in the future, you're going to place any order with Amazon, do let me know ya. I'm still interested to sapu those hd-dvd titles at half price. It's a good deal. It may be officially dead but it doesn't matter to me especially if they're all dirt cheap.

then after 1-2 years..PS3 will boost sales because the PS3 is the only consoles that support blu-ray player that are cheap among sony blu-ray player nowdays..
*
Not really, the upcoming Sony BDP-S350 is only USD400 and it's a profile 2.0 ready player and it bitstreams DTS-HD MA, something the PS3 couldn't do but it's a gaming console, what to expect, right?

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Toshiba-HD-EP30-Pl...l/dp/B000W4EB22

Tosh HD-EP30 (EU equivalent of the HD-A30) going for GBP78 (~RM495). 2 free HD-DVDs included in the box - 300 and The Bourne Supremacy. No need stepdown convertor unlike the A30. No international shipping, so needs a UK address to buy. Free shipping within UK (about 6-10 days to deliver).

At that price, it's almost equivalent to B&H's US$150 for the A30.
Sorry, I could be mistaken, but I thought I read somewhere that the Sony BDP-S350 doesn't do DTS-HD MA, only the D550 does. Apologies if I'm wrong.
*
Well, BD-S350 doesn't decode DTS-HD MA internally but it can output via bitstream so if you have a next gen amp, that's not an issue at all.

Yup, USD30 for the whole Trilogy on HD-DVD is cheaper than buying all three from Speedy on standard dvds.
