QUOTE(raymondong96 @ Nov 30 2018, 01:53 PM) Thank you for all the replies, the opinions are very useful and i really appreciate it. cant go wrong with cgg. its a big name. i heard really tough to get into.In term of gaining knowledge and experience, my senior told me CGG is best of the best in training and teaching fresh graduates like me. However, their staff already told me in advance that I'm not be able to use my geological knowledge if I am doing seismic processing as she said even physics and maths students can do the job. They do have a small seismic interpretation team but they told me they don't need people in the team. I know that i can still change to offshore even after i work with CGG. But if i can't apply my geological knowledge in both companies, then i think i should choose Petra instead of CGG to gain the offshore experience and knowledge. Btw, anyone heard of Subsurface Engineering Sdn Bhd before? I tried to google it but it didn't show any info about it |

Hi guys,
I am from vendor side, and i have been doing field service work through out my career life of almost 10 years. This lately i browse through jobstreet and linkedin to find new opportunity but i see for consultant companies, they prefer those who have design experience and for client roles, i guess they prefer candidates from similar role. Anyone stuck like me, trying to get out from field work? What is the best course for someone like me? |

QUOTE(ZZMsia @ Mar 1 2022, 08:31 AM) Vendor field service rep for what kind of equipment? Drilling or rotating, mechanical? Onshore / Offshore? Rotating. Both also got. Now im kinda stuck in this environment. Hard to move around to other. The only thing i can do and did before is to jump across the oem companies. |

QUOTE(ZZMsia @ Mar 1 2022, 09:50 AM) Might be you try to join a Consultant / Contractor such as MCDermott , Technip or Aker as a rotating engineer. Ok sounds possible. But hardly i see consultant got this kind of role. Normally i see its like core engineering field; mechanical, electrical, etc. But i will try to find around.Sell yourself with experience in on site / offshore start up / troubleshooting and use that to your advantage. Example: Become a rotating engineer in a company specializing in turbines / etc. How about that? use your contacts from the consultants that you know to get an interview. Most of my contacts from consultant are from mechanical, electrical or process engineer who do design. ZZMsia liked this post

QUOTE(abgkik @ Mar 1 2022, 10:10 AM) T7 quite genuine.. I have a friend who have been stationed at China for their MOPU Project.. I am from electrical background doing i&c and commissioning of the turbine. Yep, most of turbine detailed engineering (blade design, casing design, thermo calculation) are based in headquarters in oversea. Local offices are just for sale and services. To be out from OEM environment, its require you to be professional that able to provide engineering details/technical details.. I believe most of the the time, you just conveys the details that OEM provided to you to Client. You may start with Package Engineer (Rotating Equipment) for Main Contractor or Client.. This position its quite demanding for EPCC project. To be Package Engineer, you should well verse on Equipment (Engineering & Technical, Commissioning, Ops & etc), Project Plan and Procurement. Wish you all the best. As i mentioned above, to be a engineering professional such as Rotating Engineer, its require you to able to provide engineering details/technical details and interpreted manufacturer rotating equipment details design.. what is your education background? Most of the rotating engineer come from Mechanical.. but for start, you can be a package engineer (rotating equipment).. I have dealt with package engineer from consultant before. I doubt they know the detailed engineering as well, but more on the surface for the overall process. Since im into my equipment only, i also lack knowledge on plant process. |

QUOTE(abgkik @ Mar 1 2022, 10:57 AM) Yup.. Package Engineer will not require to go deep on details design/engineering.. on the surface is required, so that is why I advise you to start from there.. Im in compressor and gas turbine vendor.are you in Compressor or Turbine Generator or power gen contractor? Hopefully can find the role and experience new environment. ZZMsia liked this post

QUOTE(ZZMsia @ Mar 1 2022, 12:00 PM) How about switching to control vendor like emerson or honeywell? Normally pure control vendor, their salary range is a bit too low. Then try moving from there? Is it salary motivating your change or job scope? I think its more of job scope and environment. I dont have any complain on salary part. ZZMsia liked this post
