Anyone go OGA this week?

MBOT is what I think worth to explore for those technologists and technicians. Just set-up last year based in Putrajaya.

Some other gifts as usual...

Have anyone heard of Budiman Inspection Sdn Bhd? I got accepted for the internship over there. The person in charge said that I will be given chance to go to the site to help out. They also said I can get OGSP/ntsp during my internship and claim from the company. Anyone know about it?

you can register online and make payment online.
OGSP Online Registration

Select "Induction & Safety Passport", then select the nearest branch to your location/preferred branch. Yours shall be OGSP Level 1. Level 2 or Refresher is for renewal after 3 years.
Otherwise, you can walk-in on the day to the branch and reach there about 8am but subject to the class is full or not with participants, this is a bit risky if one urgent to renew or for Level 1. Ensure you bring a passport size photo with you during registration and also cash for payment if you have not transfer online. Bring your online receipt if you make payment online before the course date.

You will have your tax invoice receipt on the day/end of the day of the course or you can ask from the course coordinator.

Hi. This might not be the correct thread to ask about my questions so I apologizes in advanced. I am currently a Mechanical Engineering student (degree) in public uni. I need to choose elective for my degree since i take mechanical engineering (umum). I want to enter O&G industry so which one should i choose to study? There are 5 choices:

1. thermal fluid
2. structure and material
3. design and innovation
4. automotive
5. maintenance
*
I do not know what are the exact syllabus of each subject. Potential career roles as below:
Thermal fluid - operations process engineering especially in refinery, LNG, FPSO, CFD simulation those kind of roles.
Structure and material - EPCC design, piping and plant equipment corrosion and inspection, NDT, fabrication in shipyard/workshop
Design and innovation - EPCC Consultant/ contractor, Simulation study on process flow
Automotive - IR 4.0 is definitely a must to be equipped knowledge
Maintenance - plant/fpso/machine operations and service maintenance role. Deploy drilling tools or service those drilling equipments. Commissioning or decom role.
In short, make sure you opt something you have interest in, not follow the trend of the market, all the above good subjects. What is hot today, tomorrow maybe different.

Make sure you really equip with IR4.0 no matter which above subject u take. Develop your critical analysing skills and communication presentation skills. Perhaps what i mentioned above are not covered in the syllabus, you need to go explore by yourself. If the university subject materials have been developed by solely academic based persons, my guess hmm... hard to equip the graduate with reality practical knowledge.
You want to enter oil & gas, you can decide later after you complete your degree or nearing the end of your last semester, perhaps you will enter other industry in the reality?
Market situation is not whatever you want, you get it and vice versa.

Few years ago went to their FLNG conversion at a shipyard. If the LNG market up, sure they happy. If LNG down, then?

Thank you sifus for all the advises. Because now I am quite confuse which subject to take in order to equip with necessary knowledge and to catch up with the current technologies and environment in Malaysia. Below are the syllabus for each elective i forgot to put:

1. Thermal Fluid
- Renewable energy system
- Refrigeration and air conditioning system
- Power plant system
- Computational fluid dynamics
- Fluid power and turbo-machinery

2. Structure & Materials
- Finite element analysis
- Advanced solid mechanics
- Non destructive testing
- Composites and advanced materials
- Metallurgy

3. Design & Innovation
- Mechanism design
- Prototype development technologies
- Design quality and reliability
- Design optimization
- Advanced CAD

4. Automotive
- Vehicle dynamics
- Automotive technology
- Vehicle power-train system
- Internal combustion engine
- Vehicle system modeling and simulation

5. Maintenance
- Vibration monitoring of rotating machinery
- Condition based maintenance
- Reliability, maintainability and risks
- Wear debris and oil analysis
- Structural health monitoring

There is RE in the syllabus which I think is good, go for 1,2 or 5 if you really have interest into them. 1, 2 and 5 one can explore many industry practical professional certs after gain a few years of relevant experience in the real world, if you have the deep heart, you will rxplore by yourself and need no anyone to point out.
3 is more into office based works, 1 also is possible office/plant field based role..
4 is also good as got ICE, opening Steam Engineer role in the future.

The most important is your strength and interest and further explore new tech studies beyond the syllabus when you have time.
I came from design, inspection, testing & commissioning office/infra works, then turn to project operations in OCTG fix facility, then at present field maintenance. All those built up experience really help at later stage. I stayed on my 1st job 2.5 years, then 2nd job half year as the O&G really peak that time with good offer so joined it for 6 years, then present job coming to 6 years got 2 times promotion. Able to gain Asia and ANZ region and some Middle East experience, these are really helpful...
