Baker to split from GE

General Electric Co. (NYSE: GE) said June 26 it plans to pursue an orderly separation from Baker Hughes Inc. (NYSE: BHGE) as the Boston-based conglomerate chooses to narrow its focus on its aviation, power and renewable energy businesses.

The announcement comes roughly a year after GE completed its buyout of Baker Hughes, merging the company with its GE Oil & Gas division and creating the world’s second-largest oilfield service provider by revenue.

GE plans to fully separate its 62.5% interest in Baker Hughes in an “orderly manner” over the next two to three years, the company said in the release.

Analysts with Tudor, Pickering, Holt & Co. (TPH) said the news as it relates to Baker Hughes is both good and bad.

“Good news is that investor concerns that GE would find a way to jettison its 62.5% interest in Baker Hughes in one fell swoop over near-term were misguided. Bad news [in terms of supply/demand for BHGE shares] is that GE does indeed plan to fully separate from Baker Hughes over next two to three years,” TPH analysts said in a morning note on June 26.

Rumors began circulating late last year that GE was considering shedding its holdings in Baker Hughes before the expiration of a two-year lockup period the companies set as part of their merger agreement. Though GE CFO Jamie Miller dispelled speculation after she affirmed the company’s commitment to Baker Hughes at a conference in February.

e company, formerly known as UMW Oil & Gas, on Tuesday said its subsidiary Velesto Drilling received a Letter of Award from Roc Oil for a contract on the provision of a jack-up drilling rig for its D35 Phase 2 Infill Drilling Program.

Velesto will assign its NAGA 4 jack-up unit for this contract. NAGA 4 is a jack-up drilling rig that has a drilling depth capability of 30,000 feet and has a rated operating water depth of 400 feet.

The estimated value of the contract is $31 million. The contract, for eleven wells, is expected to start in August 2018.

According to available information, the Naga 4 is still under a contract with ConocoPhillips. The rig is expected to complete the ConocoPhillips contract by the end of July, 2018.

ConocoPhillips in December 2017 struck a deal to hire the rig starting the second quarter of 2018 for a two-well drilling campaign off the coast of Sarawak, Malaysia.

Shell sells equity in Malaysia LNG Tiga for $750 million

KUALA LUMPUR -- Shell completes Malaysia LNG Tiga equity sale Shell Gas Holdings (Malaysia) Limited, a subsidiary of Royal Dutch Shell plc, announced today that it has completed the sale of its 15% shareholding in Malaysia LNG Tiga Sdn Bhd (MLNG Tiga) to the Sarawak State Financial Secretary (SFS) for an agreed consideration of $750 million.

The transaction has an economic date of Sept. 1, 2017 and the net final consideration paid to Shell after adjustments for dividends the company received up to completion is approximately $640 million. SFS is an existing MLNG Tiga shareholder and with completion of this transaction, increased its shareholding in MLNG Tiga to 25%.

The other shareholders of MLNG Tiga are PETRONAS with 60% equity, Nippon Oil Finance (Netherlands) B.V. with 10% equity, and Diamond Gas (Netherlands) B.V., a Mitsubishi Corporation subsidiary with 5% equity. Malaysia LNG Sdn Bhd, a PETRONAS subsidiary, operates MLNG Tiga as part of the larger PETRONAS LNG Complex in Bintulu.

This sale is consistent with Shell’s strategy to simplify its portfolio and reshape Shell into a simpler, more resilient and focused company. Following the expiry of the MLNG Satu and Dua joint venture agreements, MLNG Tiga was Shell’s only remaining interest in the PETRONAS LNG complex. Completion of this sale demonstrates the clear momentum behind Shell’s delivery of its global divestment program.

Shell continues to have a strong business in Malaysia and remains committed to the country.

Vantage awarded annulus wash, cementing assurance in Malaysia

Vantage Oilfield Solutions Sdn Bhd (Vantage) has received a work order award from Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd (Petronas Carigali) for the Provision of annulus wash and cementing assurance for Kepong-A field, Terengganu, Malaysia.

Vantage, a subsidiary of Vantage Energy Group Sdn Bhd, through its collaboration with its principal, HydraWell Intervention AS, will provide plug and abandonment services at the field under the Annulus Wash and Cementing Assurance (AWCA) umbrella contract from Petronas Carigali.

Vantage will perform the P&A services using HydraWell´s high pressure PWC (Perforate, Wash and Cement) jetting system which can install a rock-to-rock barrier in less than two days. In comparison, traditional plugging methods, such as section milling can often take 10-14 days to complete.

Under phase one of the contract, Vantage has been tasked to safely plug and abandon four wells in 2018. An additional six wells may be plugged at a later stage. The contract includes the installation of 18 PWC plugs with an extension option of 10 more PWC plugs. The work will be conducted from a fixed satellite platform on wells with both single and dual casings.

“We have a successful track record to support Petronas’ operations for its plug and abandonment campaigns. Plugging of wells represents cost for the operator which is in favour of the PWC method that keeps costs, environmental footprint and HSE risks to a minimum,” says Mark Sørheim, CEO of HydraWell.

24 crew and offshore workers test positive for coronavirus after offshore support vessel arrives in Bintulu

A Sarawak lawmaker has reportedly blamed national oil company Petronas for a new coronavirus outbreak in the state’s oil and gas town Bintulu in Malaysia.

Bintulu Member of Parliament Tiong King Sing claimed that the potentially fatal Covid-19 was found in many of those on board the Grade One Manjung 7 (GOM 7), a Malaysia-flagged anchor handling vessel that had been working for Petronas.

The vessel had entered Bintulu port in Sarawak, East Malaysia in early July.

Tiong alleged that the GOM 7 had failed to carry out the compulsory 14-day vessel quarantine upon arrival as stipulated by the State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) and had also allowed workers to disembark or others to board during that fortnight.

Less than a week after docking at Bintulu, more than 20 offshore workers had boarded the vessel before it departed for a platform on Petronas Carigali's D18 field, reported Focus Malaysia.

Subsequently, 24 of those from the GOM 7 - 22 crewmen and two oil rig workers - last week tested positive for Covid-19 after the vessel returned to Bintulu.

“They include two oil rig workers who were found to be positive with Covid-19, but the company failed to disclose the truth to the Health Department during an investigation. This behaviour by a government-linked company is irresponsible and contemptuous at the least,” said Tiong.

The Sarawak authorities said they would be inspecting offshore oil and gas platforms offshore Bintulu to ensure that coronavirus protocols are being followed.

Tiong said he has asked the Health Department to conduct the inspections and to close down offshore operations if correct procedures were not being adhered to.

The state authorities want oil and gas players to organise vaccination programmes for their employees working in Sarawak, including those working at the Petronas LNG Complex at Bintulu.
