Hi Elgan,

Yes, I got some of my works on BBC, glad you had read about it.

I was taking a timelapse video during that time, which took around 2 hours shooting. From that series of the photos, I took 120 photos, loaded into Photoshop as layers and blended them together using the "Lighten" blend mode, which formed a star trails effect. ^^

Then, I use another few more photos from the same series, which is those that took at dawn with jeep passing by and form a beautiful light trails. I blended in only the foreground together with the light trails, so here is the final outcome of the photo.

Thanks for sharing your technique. So much hard work, but the end result justifies it all. Well done.

Some really amazing shots here, you are one of the best Malaysian landscape photographers that I've seen before. Simply stunning shots.

Magical shots!

The Mt Kinabalu shot is simply stunning with all the elements in it!

Fuh to get that Milkyway shot in all its glory curving on the horizon is mindblowing. It takes more than effort and tremendous planning.

Appreciate a guide of taking selfie photos like The Intersection. How does one balance allowing longer exposure while allowing a selfie while in it. I tried posing still for duration of the exposure but seems to fail during my trials.

I completely agree with you mate! No doubt landscape photography is a mixture of planning, photography skill, post processing and the lastly, the one that played the smallest role but also very important, which is the LUCK. I have lot's of outing ended up with nothing, luckily most of my oversea trips are okay.

That's a good suggestion, I think I going to write an article about that and share it later here.

Generally, the key here actually is to take two different photos with the same composition but different settings.

Let's take an example:

Photo A (for foreground) - longer shutter speed for a bright foreground.

Without moving your camera, you capture another shoot.

Photo B (selfie) - shorter shutter speed (maybe around 15seconds) and boosting up the ISO.

Then just blend the person from photo B into photo A, DA!DA! Done! ^^


Of course, you can choose to use Photo B alone instead of blending, but then will have a result with much more noises.

Thanks Fzeo, no doubt wide angle lens is one of the important aspects, but it doesn't mean is absolutely needed.

In some of the photo, I'm using much longer focal length, which can be 24,30 or 50mm, depend on the distance between the subject and where I stand.

Alternatively, you can consider doing a panorama photo, although it means more works for a single photo that same as a wide angle lens but you will have a much higher resolution photo.

If you have been to the famous "Jelatek" spot, you can shoot with a longer focal length.

Another example is below photo that took at 24mm.

Thanks for the above. Thus, fair to say that I won't be able to get such a shot without post processing them? I lean more towards photos that doesn't require processing. Although I am aware processing can enhance how a photo looks, I find them too unreal, despite the beauty of it. I have seen some where minimal PP are done, which is already at my limit
