Its not new, to be honest. (Also another reason why I believe that Geography should have been kept as a compulsory subject till form 5, but I digress) New Zealand's geo-topology is volcanic in nature, especially most of the north island. Earthquakes have happened in the past.

The vast majority of them have been outside the urban areas, so the damage is minimal. Christchurch is one of the more modern ones. The last time an earthquake hit a relatively populated area was the Napier earthquake in 1931.

As I said, I am very impressed. Despite the intensity and damage, most of the infrastructure is still working. Internet is fine, mobile phone networks were temporarily overwhelmed, but never failed.

There are not many places in this world which are habitable that don't run through a fault line of some sort.

With regards to accommodation, usually the character references will be from someone in the university's Accommodation Service. Failing which, use your parents, complete with Malaysian contact details and all.

Alright, I didn't go through the whole thread so spare me if I'm repeating the same question. Is there any universities in Malaysia that's branched with New Zealand? Eg Studying Engineering in MY for 2 years then final year in NZ or something? Sorry if its a noobish question but I need to know!

Almost all internships I know of are handled by students with the companies directly, you need to apply to them.
Unis do have summer scholarships/research projects tho.

Study Abroad Or Exchange All right... I've checked the pages, apparently there's no "What are the benefits of Study Abroad or Exchange" FAQ. Does this mean that my degree (exmple Engineering) would be accepted in MY n NZ as well?

Cost of living is not cheap but not crazy expensive.
Lived in Auckland City, expect ~$1k per month minimum unless you're really frugal.
Eating out will really make a dent in your pocket.
It's cheaper in other places though, especially if you don't live inside the city itself.

For the Exchange thingy, I am not 100% sure but I believe that your degree is still mostly the same as non-exchange students.
So if your original degree is not recognized in NZ, exchange won't help.
But I would ask the University itself for confirmation.

1K NZD, but that's in Auckland City. Somewhat cheaper elsewhere.
Part-time work is easy enough to find though, and the pay is quite good.
My highest pay was ~$800 per month, and still below the max 20hrs per week working limit.
Most will want to consider effect on grades, but I wouldn't worry. Undergraduate = easy laugh.gif
