Hi all, my condo gets heated up from evening sun. Any idea whether:
1. Tinting will help repel the heat within my unit
2. What tint is suitable for such purposes & where can if find it?

Thanks alot!

Normal car tint shop does this...you can look for the raytech shops or similar.
Also you can install venetian blinds or sun-block curtains.

Not sure whether tinting or specifically windows is the main factor of heat. Is the walls actually. Evening sun heat up the walls actually and can last toward the night.

DO check if the orientation of your window is facing West. IF yes, it's most likely from the window.

I usually recommend clients to combo tinting their window and add on a blackout curtain layer to trap the heat between curtain and the window gap.
I find this the more efficient to keep your house cool cool2.gif

Cheers,
blindman.

1. put tint on the window.
2. put the blind on the window.
3. put reflective paint (try nippon weathershield) to reduce heat
4. put a canopy on top of window to block sun coming in.

if got budget, a second wall really does the trick ;-)

Guys, received specs from this supplier who quoted RM12 per sqft supply and install:

Solar energy 95%
UV 100
VLT 40%

As i am not familiar with tint at all, is this high performance enough? I need a non reflective and high heat rejection type of tint due to my place facing west.

For heat rejection, you should look at Total Solar Energy Rejected (TSER), the higher the better.

You mentioned Solar energy 95%, is it mean the film cut 95% of the Total Solar Energy from going through the film? If yes, I would it is quite a high spec.

planning to tint my condo windows (facing morning sun)

will vlt 50% be okay?
specs like this

vlt 50%
ir rejection 95%
uv Rejection 100%
TSER 56%

i am afraid of using those with low vlt 15% or 20-25% as afraid it might make the house dark

is there a difference between 1 ply and 3 ply tints?

If you can DIY. There is a shop in Pandan Indah to buy one whole role for RM500 (5ft x 1000ft). They cut the side for your also. Can choose all types of shades.

Honestly it is so hard to tell which is good quality with our bare skin and eyes. For house since it is not always under the sun like a car the quality don’t need to be as good for a car.

For that price the quality is acceptable and since house windows are straight the tendency to get bubbles are minimal.

From the description sounds like the best tint in the world haha. Actually all that specs very hard to verify that it is true. Btw VLT for house 40% too light/clear. You will feel after installing the tint like no difference. Recommend to go like VLT 10%. I install VLT 5%, in the day time totally cannot see inside but at night it is clear.

i am actually trying to maximise the light going in. This is for a condo facing morning sun. I have used a tint with vlt18% in my other house but it made the interior a bit too dark ...

all tint can see in at night ..... i am lucky i dont have an opposite condo block...... so privacy is not an issue. Hope to eliminate the morning sun which drags till 11am plus

** that particular tint above has

IR Rejection: 80% (1400nm)
UV Rejection: 100% (UV400)

IRR rate is impressive compared to other tint films .....

I got same prob like u. Any non black tint with high heat rejection? I prefer clear windows. 8' x 6' tempered glass in my bedroom facing west. Direct sunlight get in after 2pm - 6pm. Really hot like sauna room.
