http://www.symantec.com/norton360/

Any one tried this yet?

I'd appreciate some feedback if possible.

Does it lag like its predecessors? Internet Security 2005, 2006, etc..

Thanx ya.

I try using the trial version for my desktop and notebook. desktop using amd64 3000 and laptop using intel dual core t2500. both is equipped with 1 gb ram. I notice it eat a lot of cpu power when it is scanning your computer for threat and virus.

I did read somewhere that the first comment from an actual public tester was that for the first time, using 360 was suprisingly quick and rather light in terms of system resource consumption. Value wise, Norton has just up the game by having backup solution combined witha security solution. Howwever i noted that he complained that he can't do a single file/folder scan. Each time he want to scan, it's the whole harddisk.

Should be a good buy if norton has also improved their catch rate and moved to a as-and-when-need to update rather than batch update.

I've tried Norton Antivirus 2007(not 360) in my costumer's pc & suprisingly it's really light but when I check the services they still got a lot services running like they used to. I wonder if it the 'lightness' can only fell in the desktop environment & not while running heavy applications. HERE'S THE BIG CATCH, I try download CCleaner using firefox & suddenly Norton DELETE the file while it's still downloading. Then I plug in my thumbdrive n somehow Norton give me weird message saying their autoprotect feature has REMOVE some file that has security risk. When I open my thumbdrive there's few file MISSING n those were OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE.

My conclusion = Norton not open source friendly.

Norton 260 is based on a new scan engine and whole new production. So i think it would be unfair to compare it against NAV2007.
In your case, it was a trade-off most developers have to make in order to produce idiot-proof systems. Unfortunately, your case is an extreme case of not wanting to bother you with details, so i'll do you a favour and delete the file without asking you... tongue.gif

Whoa!

Serious? I never expected NAV to be so aggressive as to delete files without prompting. U sure it wasnt coz u set it that way? Coz I'd be quite rude for a program to delete files b4 notifying the user.

I am N360 now and it seems that the memory utilization is lower than NIS2007.

To update after completing all functions.

It's in its' default setting. Only tried it for a few hours. Don't know if we can change the setting to be more appropriate. Luckily it wasn't my computer.

The word 'default' can be the most destructive and misleading if the developers did not take take precautions while building the 'default' settings. Usually default means that the program will disturb or pops up the least as to remain as unintrussive as possible while the user is using the computer.

Makes you think twice about hitting the default settings key, doesn't it? hmm.gif

Yea,

Hope to hear something good from you after you're done tinkering with the program.

Thanx ya.

It's been posted in LYN front page too. Lower memory usage and reasonable price, according to the author.

My 2 cents...
Problems? None that i can think of except slower system operation(before install and after install big differences), low detection rate for zero hour/day threat, works optimally with high machine spec only, and never uninstall or else messy trails all over the place..... other than that Norton is flawless as it does what it is suppose to do.

I've been using Norton 360 for a few days now and it's been running stable.

Pros:
The CPU and RAM is quite light when it's idling which is much better than the NIS 2005 that I've used previously. rclxms.gif

The user interface is very simple and clean but navigating through the settings is quite tough.

Cons:
I'm getting constant time outs for HTTP downloads and uploads; MSN constantly disconnect and reconnect; internet browser loses connection with the servers frequently. All these after installing Norton 360. I read elsewhere that someone is also having the same problem and his download speed dropped a lot. Anyway, my torrent runs smoothly though. rclxub.gif

There is no individual file/folder scanning (on-demand scan). The only choice I'm left with is to do a stupid full system scan. vmad.gif

And Norton 360 doesn't have the event viewer like NA or NIS do. It is downright impossible to see IP of the person that's trying to hack into your computer, when intrusion attempts were made, etc. You can only check what virus-infected files were cleaned by Norton.

Conclusion:
Use NIS 2007 or other better security suites? LOL....
Those were the only things that I notice for the time being..will update more if I find other problems. sweat.gif

Looking at n360's package, i would say that it is not going to be on par with the likes of NIS or KIS or any ISes. This bundling is sweet due to its unique marketing position of providing backup and system protection and optimization all in one. I think it's safe enough to say, don't leave your regular antivirus in the storage shelf for N360.

It is no longer available for N360. You have to ran full scan instead.
