Hi all, I am having a very strange DiGi network behaviour. In short, I can't get 4G in many devices.

Long story:- I moved from Sandakan to Sukau 2 days ago. All devices i have are getting 4G when in Sandakan.

Now in Sukau, all my devices are not getting 4G except for Samsung Tab S3, it shows stable full bar 4G and speed around 30Mbps (actual file download, not speed test).

I have tried the following, none of them getting DiGi 4G:-
Samsung Note 4
Samsung Note 8
Huawei ME906S-158 NGFF modem (inside laptop)
Huawei E8278 modem
Huawei E5186 modem router
Huawei E5787 modem router
TP-Link MR200 modem router

I have the 4 following DiGi postpaid simcards:-
Infinity 150
Broadband data 100
gadget sim from normal postpaid 80 plan
Corporate postpaid sim

Every single simcard i put into Samsung Tab S3 will get 4G with good speed. Every single simcard i tried in other devices all 3G only, at miserable speed 0.1 to 1 Mbps. If i force 4G in devices that support it, it won't detect any signal.

This is so strange, I have to use the Tab S3 to mobile hotspot, the rest devices just failed to get 4G. I check in access point settings all are exactly the same between Note 8 and Tab S3.

Any clue? It is so illogical confused.gif , I don't know what to try next. Is Samsung using different modem brand in Tab S3 compared to Note 4&8?

I have a Celcom sim, put in any of the device above will get 4G 3 bars, not as fast as DiGi but at least every device is getting 4G.

I noticed the Samsung Tab S3 is using snapdragon modem while all the others are using other brands. Could it be only snapdragon can get the 4G at my location? that is very strange... I have a old Asus padfone infinity A80 is snapdragon 600 but unable to get 4G too, however i can't find any info if the padfone is using snapdragon LTE modem or some other brand.

Received the Netgear Nighthawk M1 today, tested and woot! DiGi 4G connected, 3 bars.
So I can almost conclusively say that Snapdragon modem chipset only will connect at DiGi 4G at my location. Other devices could only detect the DiGi 4G signal until it is closer to the DiGi 4G tower. I can't explain this, could it be Snapdragon modem is better at blind spot of 4G coverage ? 3 bars is not poor signal anyway, and Huawei is well known for getting signal but why not working at this very location. Celcom 4G which has weaker signal, all devices can detect, so strange... what is wrong here confused.gif

What ever it is, I at least found a solution and can continue the 150 Infinity plan. The M1 is too big to be called portable, i will use it as fixed modem router with power plugged in. Not sure if it can withstand 24/7 operation. So lucky to have ethernet port at M1 to the network switch.

Hmm, I think i found the deeper reason. My location is in between 2 different LTE bands from DiGi, B3 & B8 from 2 different Tower ID. Netgear M1 will sometimes no internet at all and in the diagnostics page it shows the modem is switching between 2 bands every few seconds. After few minutes it will stable again, until some times the switching will happen again and no internet. B8 vs B3 strength is like 55% vs 45%, but speed wise B3 is 6 times faster than B8. I am pointing the antenna to B3 tower but B8 will disturb from time to time because it is slightly stronger. I can point the antenna to B8 tower and it will be very stable there but the speed is like 400kB/s only.

Could this be the reason Huawei and Exynos cannot detect DiGi 4G at all, when 2 bands of almost same strength exist? Both snapdragon modems are proven to work.

You want to feedback to Digi themselves?  Make them aware of what's happening at your area.

The place is in the jungle , DiGi won't entertain little group of people. I have tried to fix a better position for antenna, it seems to be able to lock at B3 now. Yet to observe for few more days.
