I notice some small drains near my neighbourhood got ikan longkang there.

How did they migrate there?

Do you happens to live in Penang? I remember about 15-20 years back government actually release guppies to control aedis mnosquito population there.

in front pantai hospital bus stand..
lots of ikan haruan and big daddy haruans in there. im alwasy so mesmerizing wathing them in the longkang..
how the hell the come there and breed there

what puzzled me is, how did the small fish got into higher elevation drain ? Those drains only are only 'connected' during heavy rain -

is it possible those fish swam upward in the monsoon drain during storms?

this is how fish to escape their enemy, big fish unable to survive in shallow water...
hence it will go up stream to lay egg.

there was once i heard the longkang in Kyoto, Japan is so clean that u can see koi fishes swimming there.
