here's a mini two days itinerary/guide for Kyoto that i planned for my baby sis for her current trip, she's now in kyoto and will be meeting me in tokyo on thursday.
*
Since Osaka and Kyoto quite close by train, is it ok to do 2 days in Kyoto but both nights oso stay in Osaka? I suppose it depends on how much extra I have to spend on travel vs the lodging costs. As I'm going to head to Hakone and then Tokyo as well, I'm just thinking whether I could reduce one hotel change.

hakone autumn leaves is very pretty and during autumn there will be events at night which can b pretty fun (do check the events calander). usual day it can b quite boring as there's nothing to do at all at night so one day trip is sufficient. and ya the ryokan in hakone is very expensive, they all come wit japanese style dinner.
*
I feel like trying out one night at expensive ryokan during autumn biggrin.gif

Anyone here got recommendations? The "japanese style dinner" I keep reading about is referred to as "kaiseki"? Or no...?

QUOTE(idoblu @ Jun 22 2017, 10:12 AM)
sifus, if i plan a 7/8 nights to Kansai region, how many nights should i plan for Osaka and Kyoto? The rest like Kobe or Nara, I will just do day trip. Not really keen to change too many hotels.

Is early October a good time? I like to go later in the year but it gets too expensive sad.gif

Btw KIX to Osaka takes how long journey?
*
You need to decide where and what you want to do first lah... Osaka 1 day oso can, Kyoto 1 day oso can, depends on what you want to visit. If you don't want to change hotel, then you just stay in Osaka and do 1-day trips to other places - 1 day 1 city biggrin.gif Can add Hiroshima / Miyajima / Mt. Koya to your list.

Hi, wanna ask if anyone has experience going to Tateyama Alpine Route in autumn, specifically in early November. A lot of snow? Freezing cold? Need to bring winter clothes?

Also, in Japan, do things close on Sundays? Or less frequent? For example, if I choose to go Tateyama Alpine Route on a Sunday? Or Enoshima on a Sunday? Or Nikko on a Sunday?
I tried to search and see if there's a day-specific timetable, but it doesn't seem like they differentiate Sat/Sun from weekdays.

Just go to a supermarket like Jusco and pick up the boxes and wrap it yourself. Normally they also have tapes and strings as well, but please dont take it out.
*
I haven't bought so much stuff that I have bring a box back. But maybe Japan is an exception...

Can you explain some more about this? hmm.gif Wrap up the boxes with what? Gift paper wraps? Or just abuse their tapes and tape the whole thing up?

I only person in this forum been experience 4 season of Tateyama Alphine Route.  brows.gif  brows.gif
Tateyama Alpine Route closed from November 30 to April 15. Snowing Part only from April 16 to April 3
If you going at Early November, You need a jacket only. Very similar to Genting Highland temperature.

Japan most shop closed on Public Holiday or specific days depending shop. Some shop will closed on Sunday or Monday or Tuesdays..... This one you have to do homework on it.
Enoshima will be alot people during summer time because of beach. Nikko will be alot people if Public Holiday. You also need do homework on Taiwan public holiday and China public holiday. Usually this 2 country public holiday, Japan attraction spot will full of people.
*
Well, I think you mean 3 seasons, since it's closed in winter... I'm asking about snow in Murodo, not the snow wall during Spring. Looking at photos during October and November, and the official website suggesting winter clothing... are you sure jacket is enough? Even right now, the temperature is about 12 degrees celsius... you're saying it won't get colder in November??

No, Still consider as Winter, Tateyama Alpine route Winter count from November to April. That why I say April 16 to April 30 are consider Winter Season.
From Tateyama Highland Part (Snow Wall) > Murodo > Daikanbo > Kurobedaira > Kurobeko > Kurobe Dam will be cover by Snow

Different people have different limit to withstand cool. For me, A jacket was enough for Autumn Season. Because you mention early of November.
*
Ok, thanks. I might end up going there in 2nd week of November, that's why I was thinking it might end up getting quite cold. I suppose I can just bring long john or extra shirt for just-in-case. Do you think the weather during November is ok to go up? I saw reviews say can get foggy during autumn. Since it's not cheap to go through the route, it would really suck if kena bad weather.

Which of these areas would you recommend to stay at for someone first time visit to Tokyo? Shinjuku, Ikebukuro, or Ueno?

I want to go out to Kawaguchiko, Hakone, Nikko, and Enoshima. It seems like Shinjuku is a good option. But I have some friends who say this area got red light district and lots of pachinko, as such not so nice, Ikebukuro or Ueno are more pleasant areas. I'm going to want to visit all three areas so can't decide which area to stay at. Ikebukuro for shopping and Ueno for the park. Appreciate some suggestions or comments about this...

Hi, I plan on staying for two nights in Kyoto, would anyone recommend staying in Gion area, near the Gion-Shijo station (near Pontocho)? Seems like a lot of the places there are old houses/buildings.

My alternative is to stay near Kyoto Station, since I will be going to Tokyo after Kyoto, but Kyoto Station area seems much more expensive than Gion area. I will mainly be taking bus around Kyoto I think, not planning on bicycle rental.

Anyone got good airbnb experience or recommendation near Shinjuku station? Even airbnb seems quite expensive near the station. Thinking of staying slightly further away, such as Shinjuku Sanchome station, or Minami Shinjuku station

No ler, they open at 10 am Japan time. So I was waiting at 9am this morning. Keep refreshing and clicking... by 9:12 am I finally can select the day/time I want - click in, wait for popup to select the number of tickets... adult tickets sold out liao.

I'm unable to choose other date because they're closed for renovations for almost 2 weeks.

I didn't realise that TravelRecommends actually sells a lot of other stuff like tickets and passes, not just pocket wifi.

https://www.travelrecommends.com/attractions/japan

Anyone buy those from them before? Or it's easy to just buy them when in Japan?

Is one advantage of JR Pass is that I don't need to queue up at ticket counters all the time?

I plan on doing a lot of day trips from Osaka, and will also be going to Kyoto and Tokyo.

I don't quite understand the JR pass seat reservation... as I understand it... so when I touch down in Osaka, it means I need to tell the JR counter staff which date, which time, and which train I want to reserve is it? Then they give me actual tickets for each train?

sorry for interrupt, if i hang around in kyoto/kobe and osaka...JR Rail Pass is basically useless?
*
I think so. Because if you do Kyoto/Kobe/Osaka only, you also have the options of Kansai Thru Pass and Kansai One Pass, which are a lot cheaper.

You're just visiting nearby locations, and at most one a day, so yes, it's ok.

Oh noes! I'm also going in Nov biggrin.gif

I found an update here: https://www.jrailpass.com/blog/japan-autumn-leaves-forecast

Quote:

Update (10/10): Autumn leaves have fully changed in most parts of Hokkaido. In central Honshu, the highlands in Shiga Kogen (near Nagano) and Bandai Azuma Skyline (Fukushima) are also in their peak, and in Nikko, they are starting to turn to gold and red. In southern-central Japan (Tokyo-Nagoya-Kyoto) the best time to see the autumn leaves should be between November 15th to December 1st.

Hi I have read on comment about approx how much need to bring over to Jpn ~100k/10days or 10k/1day

My question, Is it better to use cc or just cash? I thought Jpn is cashless society too? no?
*
Not cashless society. Just curious, what made you think Japan is cashless society?

Bring enough cash, especially if want to mostly eat at budget places.

QUOTE(Lynixx @ Oct 15 2017, 07:56 PM)
guys, below is the final itinerary that i planned with my gf...need some sensei here for advise.

Day1- osaka,namba-stay airbnb
Day2- kobe 1 day trip and back osaka, namba
Day3- USJ
Day4- Kyoto-stay airbnb
Day5- Kyoto-stay airbnb
Day6- Back osaka-stay hotel <----should i stay at namba again?
Day7- spend halfday in osaka,10pm flight to KL.

is this ok?
*
Ok. I'm assuming there's a scheduling arrangement where you cannot shift your day 4-5 to day 5-6, then no need to check-in twice in osaka. But if you have no other choice, why not stay somewhere else? Like Umeda? Might as well stay at another starting point.

QUOTE(cappuccino vs latte @ Oct 15 2017, 11:13 PM)
Maybe some people don't mind but I will always think of bad conversion rate + charges before swipe with credit card.
*
Depends on your cc loh. I don't mind the 5x points when swiping overseas.

Hmm anyone heard about racial discrimination from Ichibazushi? Specifically, the one in Shinsaibashi in Osaka.

Thought of going there, but found a lot of Koreans and China Chinese and even some westerners complaining about discrimination.

Example:
http://www.koreaboo.com/news/wasabi-terror...se-sushi-chain/

And tripadvisor also got, google maps also got...

Can recommend other good sushi place nearby Namba station? (that's not too premium...)
