Matsusaka Beef are totally diffrent level to Sushi. Even most expensive sushi at Tokyo ( Jiro) just 32000 Yen

Matsusaka Beef dinner set (comes with A3 beef) = 18000 Yen + A plate of A5 100G (Going splurge as you say) (62000 Yen)
Total are 80000 Yen per Pax

Those are course meal price. Normally serving very low grade beef meat.
Even find dining restaurant also have to sell lower price meal to sustain the cost to pay bill and rental.

Lunch Hour Matsusaka beef course meal can get as low as 4k Yen, But same meal at Dinner become 12000 Yen ....LOL

Daikor surely there is a typo here? usd55/100gm issit? (although that doesn’t sound right also cos looking back in my photos, i have a photo of a4 matsusaka rib eye raw from supermarket and that was already 8000¥/100gm) ...
*
A5 really expensive. Different Level. Every 1 Grade jumping cost huge gap.
Raw Meat at Supermarke price compare to fine dinning price sure huge different.
Fine dinning mah....Even a glass of water also cost you 1000 Yen
Unless you know how to cook it then really save alot.

That why if you got Japanese GF / Wife know how to cook. Always can go SUpermarket buy A3 - A5 Grade Wagyu Beef then cook Sukiyaki at Home. brows.gif

according to my japanese colleague...

Matsusaka beef's taste is similar to those average beef you can find in market.

why matsusaka beef is expensive because it famous because of it's name matsusaka.

can someone clarify?
*
I believe your friend makan fake one or he langsung dunno about Wagyu. (Alot rich people got money but no taste)
Matsusaka Beef are category as Wagyu means the fat inside meat are so evenly spread. The Meat will be so juicy and so tender. something will melt inside your mouth.

Normal beef either lean meat or fat meat.

There are 3 Waygu in Japan so expensive becasue the way to feed them are using most expensive grain & beer

it depends on how the restaurant prepare as well. some restaurant dunno how to prepare those beef and ended up losing the real taste of the beef. i tried many diff wagyu beef places and some r really good, some r just average cause they dunno how to prepare
*
It won't happen in Japan. Because to sold Japan Waygu, you have to be member of Japan Wagyu Association member. This Association will sent people to evaluate your chef, qualified of sell waygu or not. Only the top of top can serve Japan wagyu. All qualified restraurant will have Gold Medal plate showing at entrance of restraurant. Even Kuromon market that selling waygu stall also have this golden certificate.

Alot restraurant got serving waygu, but those are american / Australia wagyu meat. So taste you eat might feel different.

QUOTE(deodorant @ Oct 9 2017, 07:02 PM)
Among foreigners outside japan, historically only Kobe is famous (for whatever reason). that’s why even today lots of westerners mis-market wagyu as kobe. but among japanese, their so called big three is kobe, ohmi and matsusaka. i’ve tried the first two but no luck to try the third one yet hmm.gif
*
Do you get the Certificate Card from Japan Wagyu Association? If not means you still have't try the real Kobe , Ohmi , Matsusaka Beef. Even you buy at Supermarket, all Japan Wagyu meat must have Certificate card issue from Association. Even Kuromon Market that Waygu stall also got certificate.

If you saw those Wagyu sold in Supermarket / Restaurant which don't have Certificate means it will be American / Australia one. Because in Restaurant / Supermarket they also label it Waygu only, so as foreigners you will think it was Kobe / Ohmi / matsusaka but actually are American / Aussie waygu.

biggrin.gif

Japan takes elite food very seriously, Same as Fugu , Black Fur pig (Kurobuta) ..all will certificate issue from association. Only elite can serve it to keep the highest quality.

You just have to go to Rakuten JP website and search. A few times a year they have a big sale. They will list out some items in advance that is on sale on certain time and limited quantity. So you have to be quick and fast. At that time there were about 100 pieces of matsusaka on sale, so it was easy for me to buy. Things that are really impossible to bid are like notebook, phones, cars that are 50% of the market price.

I normally buy Hokkaido King Crab

Hey guys.  Know that  there  is coin machine  changes in narita.  But can I use 10k yen to change?  Get all 10k from money  changer.

Will go to uEno  early  morning  n eat ichiran..  They take 10k??
*
All Ramen Restaurant got little machine outside. The machine accept 10k Yen bill. Get coupon then show it to ramen sifu.
About transportation. Once reach Narita, get your self a Pasmo / Suica at Convenience Store. 5000 Yen topup enough for Metro 1 whole Week

10000 Yen for Japanese like our Rm100 only. 1000 Yen like our Rm10 and 100 Yen as Rm1.

Every month after I get Gaji, always go ATM take 100000 Yen. Feel like RM1000 only. One month expenses for food , bill , reload Suica

Is one advantage of JR Pass is that I don't need to queue up at ticket counters all the time?

I plan on doing a lot of day trips from Osaka, and will also be going to Kyoto and Tokyo.

I don't quite understand the JR pass seat reservation... as I understand it... so when I touch down in Osaka, it means I need to tell the JR counter staff which date, which time, and which train I want to reserve is it? Then they give me actual tickets for each train?
*
Icoca / Pasmo / Suica [Touch N Go] also can do the same job.

Osaka, Kyoto & Tokyo are JR Rail Pass Killer City. Your JR Rail Pass are useless in this 3 City Because Metro cover range are wider than JR Train.
If you from Osaka/Kyoto going Tokyo One way only, no need buy JR Rail Pass.

Japan Train system are Train Ticket is Train Ticket. Seat is Seat. They separate it. If you buy Train Ticket only means you only can board the Train under Non Reserve Seat coach. Inisde this Coach, all seat are bsed on 1st come 1st serve. If seat was full then you have to standing inside Coach. Even you got seat, but you left the seat for toilet. the seat will taken by another people.

sorry for interrupt, if i hang around in kyoto/kobe and osaka...JR Rail Pass is basically useless?

Yes. Super useless
JR Train at Osaka , Kobe , Kyoto only cover 10% area
90% coverage area are non JR Train.
