Yesssss 1 day is too limited. I had about 4 days in Nagoya and still not done exploring!

Shirakawa-Go is in the UNESCO World Heritage site smile.gif it's one of the best place I've ever been. Definitely - the best season is Winter!!! In other times you can enjoy/ see different charm of the place, but without a doubt - Winter. Highly highly recommended.

Friends and I was there early Jan this year.

Day 1 - Shirakawa-Go. We arrived between 3-330pm and went out to play around 4pm after checking-in. It wasn't snowing. Whatever snow were there - a lot had been melted off by the locals to make it easy to walk.

user posted image

Day 2 Pic 1- Went out of the gassho-zukuri/ minshuku between 8-830am (as breakfast was served at 7am, also took some time to pack up) and there was thick fog. It was snowing slightly, but the night before there were heavy snow and we were so happy & amazed by the scene before our eyes.

user posted image

Day 2 Pic 2 - We stayed in the inner most part of ShirakawaGo village. Shirakawa-Go is huge and there are many different villages located in different parts of the 'mountain'/ area. Friend said this was the only place available as we did an adhoc trip, but I think we were lucky because it was so beautiful - beyond words. Staying at the innermost, although we had a long bus ride, was totally worth it.

We would see the mountain. And the snow were soft like cotton.

user posted image

Day 2 Pic 3 - We must check out by 10am, and by 10, non-staying guests/ tourists will start to flood the place (rule is that, no tourists or guests from other area can come in before 10am), they can only access the village from 10am-3pm. Times other than those are reserved for the village's guests. It was sad that we had to leave so soon, as the enjoyment felt so short. I'll definitely return one day. If you ask why so short, only 1 night - it's because you can only stay 1 night in gassho zukuri. All these places are usually overbooked so in order to ensure no one hogs the accommodation, everyone is only allowed 1 night stay - unless you move to another minshuku/ village for another night.

Hope this inspires you to go one day biggrin.gif

Just a suggestion. Is it possible to add a compilation list for each region on the first post? Could include blog, articles or even youtube. Youtube got whole lot of it on its own.
But would be better if it's filtered to avoid misinformation. It's kinda like a semi-spoon feed, but it's useful to record our recommendations for our next trips!
For example..

I used to do this when I was Thread Starter. Since I no longer, I withdraw everything away already.
I always wish someone can continue doing it. Maybe Chinti can do this way on Page 1. I saw Chinti got passion about this thread.
*

what's the best japan sim to use? Need one for 7-8 days, yokoso/docomo doesn't have stock here for 7-8 days not sure where else to get. b-mobile has some pretty bad reviews about speed and coverage, so anyone can drop any other recommendations? Will be using data mainly for social media and getting around using Waze/Google Maps.
*
Portable wifi instead? Usually more worth as prepaid sim kinda expensive and data also lower

Good to know. There were people who recommended the Oedo Onsen Monogatari. If you're considering onsen and have time to spare, perhaps can give the place a shot. Check out more info about the place. Have not been there personally so I can't comment.
Woah impressive shop front.
*
haha its a nice place to eat but there's always quite a line. the ramen is pretty much spicy, thats all, no special taste or anything but its fun to eat once awhile. really spicy, i usually go for medium level.

Will check these out. TQ guys.

Also another question. I'm flying with MAS. When I wanna check in I was planning to re-select my seats (I didn't pre-select my seats during booking). Somehow all other seats are unavailable, although check in was just opened for barely 2 hours for my flight. Memang international flight they'll assign the seats for you and its final or is this like a new thing?
*
u can request to change seats if its available, make sure u check out 2nd post on the first page. i got quite a few recommended places to eat

Has anyone been to either one of these restaurants im about to list? If yes tell me what you think about em.

Unatoto, Aoi Marushin, Tempura Daikokuya, Butagumi, Tamahide, Maisen Tonkatsu, Tonkatsu Tonki, Kikanbou, Kitchen Nakai, Kaneko Hannosuke.
*
been to all except tht kitchen nakai. unatoto and aoi marushin pretty decent only, for unagi i prefer the one i recommended on 2nd post in page 1. tempura daikokuya is one of my prefer place for tempura if i go asakusa, kinkanbou i just wrote about it above. tamahide is worth the wait, really nice. the rest is not bad n u wont go wrong. if u got free time on monday, wednesday, or friday morning, do try ur luck for barachirashi don at sushi sho, 20 bowls per day only.
