Hey, I'm Jack White wannabe. Where can I get the slide guitar thingy, that metal rod you put on your 3rd or 4th finger. How much it is?

I just went to Mahogany and they are out of stock.

if you want to save cost, go to the bar tonight, take an empty bottle which fits your finger (4th or 5th) take it home and cut the neck. . . DOn't break the bottle use a cutter to cut the neck. . . ive seen a few people do that already. . . but if you want safe then get the dunlop ones. . . coems in either steel or glass

thanks for the input guys. I don't have to get a branded one right? No brand, Dunlop, Gibson or whatever same thing right?

The bottle idea is great, but the bir bottles are curved, having some sort of cone shape. Plus, I don't have a cutter.

It's only around RM20lar dude, slides aren't exactly the most popular item in the local guitar world so I doubt they stock any cheap 'non-branded' slides.

If you want to cut cost, you might as well as get a bottle & DIY instead. Mind you, some of them sound better than a conventional slides.

Added on March 27, 2007, 8:25 pmOh, and by the way I'm using Pickboy for slide. Bought it from Penang's LBS.

Can't really remember how much, below RM20 if I'm not mistaken. Made of steel. It comes in 2 pieces, one long one short. Enjoy using it a lot. smile.gif

Ermm it's hard to explain... try watching the vids below :

Notice the glass thing on the guitarist's finger? (That 2nd is Derek Trucks btw wink.gif ) That's a slide. You're using the slide to fret the notes instead of your fingers. Usually, you would place to slide directly above the fret and avoid any contact between the strings and the fret. The key is to apply enough pressure to strike the desired notes. smile.gif

I'm not sure if there are plastic slides around but the difference is in their tone. Glass slides tend to produce warmer and rounder tone than their steel counterparts. It all boils down to preference, though.

oh~~~ I think I know what he means. Hmmm...I guess gentlier on the strings means lesser effect of slide. Not so much of TWANG, a little bit more conventional sound. I'm looking for that sound too. So far still haven't find the perfect glass bottle...All cone shaped sad.gif
