my cousin's interested in getting a 400D from canon. why? coz she prefers the colours of canon. anywyas, that's not open for debate .

the thing is, she is willing to sell her d70s to me, and go for this 400D. she's apparetnly getting a VERY VERY VERY good price for the 400D. 2 lenses for a very cheap price. her firend's a dealer

the 70S she BOUGHT is a YEAR OLD, and bought at a price of RM3627 inclusive of 2 batts lens and filter.
so if you were me, how much would u offer to buy the 70S from her? (she's not a heavy user, so shutter count is good)

get it sell.. sell d lens and but 17-55 f2.8...

i'm asking HOW MUCH would u buy a second hand D70s? i'm not getting it free

About a month ago when I was buying my DSLR, the D70s body (new) was going for about 2100-2200RM. But this is ebay price and not sure if you can get prices like this in Msia, but hopefully it gives you some idea how much you should be paying for it.

considering brand new gonna cost less den 3k for body+lens so maybe half d price?

~1600-1800 body only depends on cond.

Around RM1800-2000 (body + 2 batts).
The DX 18-70mm is worth around RM600 in the used market.

Plz state that what lenses and what batts (original?)...

mine just over 1 year. body only. shutter count around 9k. with extra third party battery. complete set with box and unfill warranty card.

You can either convince your friend not to sell her D70s for the 400D...I don't think it's worth it. Or you can take this opportunity to get the D70s at a good price and let her satisfy her desire but 400D vs D70s noise is almost incomparable

no i agree with u guys. if it's some stranger on the road... i will ask for RM1600. the thing is this is a very close cousin. and her husband is a financial planner. so selling her d70s to get a 400D (with two lenses) and losing half the price of what she paid for her d70s, i think she'll be smart enough not to change. also close cousin ,i dont' want her rugi.

When u ask how much is D70s we would pay, we already replied, then you say it's too cheap.. First of all you ask what is the market rate..and we told you it's ard 1.5k to 2k.. now if u want to pay for Rm2.5k.. den it's your choice.. hell i don't care if you want to pay RM10k for it.. (well .. actually i care.. i sell you mine for RM9k)...

Remember, you are not cheating your cousin, that is the market rate..

There's a lot of choice.. u can get Nikon D40, Canon 350d, Pentax..etc... You need to look at which camera ur happy with..

fyi, as i'm so noob... i tried out both cameras, but i can't tell the difference between them... ofcourse i like the hqand grip of d70s. i've got big hands.

on paper, and by reviews online, obviously d70s pwns 350D. that's why i said, d70s better, and that's why i'm considering my cousin's camera, HENCE this lengthy discussion and the stream of questions coming from me.

HOWEVER

actually TRYING those units, i can't really see the difference... reason?
i'm new to DSLRs. i've been using compact cams all this while. using the viewfinder takese time to get used to. using the manual functions takes time to get used to etc. hence, all i compare is based on the hand grip, the LCD as well as the monochrome LCD present on the top of d70s, number of focus points, and the screen size (which makes no difference to the photos). it's like comparing a ferrari spider with a CL65 (mercedes). i can't tell the difference coz, they're all new territory to me (haven't driven either). but ask me, which i THINk is better, i'd say ferrari spider. i'm quite sure when i drive them, i can't tell the difference either.

bottom line? : on paper we know which pawns which. actually using and shooting it, that i can't tell. hence my inquiry directed at u camera gurus.

have i explained enough?

UPDATE: i'm still waiting for my cousin to get back to me, on whether or not she'll sell d70s to me

Both Canon & Nikon (the lower end models) have difficulty under incandecent/fluorecent light.

So what we do? Either shoot in RAW or fine-tune the setting by shooting a gray card.

If you want the colour straight out of D70 (w/o PP) to be more colourful & vibrant. It can be done via settings. Just set colour mode to III & saturation level to 'enhanced'.

BTW, both Canon & Nikon are equally as competitive. Just pick ur poison.

As for pricing, it's personal. But i like this phrase "it's nothing personal, it's just business".

another thing, is mirror lock up a benefit? how many of you can actually see the difference btw a camera with / without mirror lock up?

another advantage of d 350d is a better viewfinder compared to the d70s.

still, u can't go wrong with either.

price wise, around 2000 or so below would be the correct pricing. dslrs' life cycle is pretty short nowadays and u getting one of the 2 at the moment would last you about 2 years before it might become obselete

as i read 350d uses pentamirror and d70s uses pentaprism (which i read is better)
when i treid them , i didn't really pay attention to the 'quality' of the viewfinder.

are u talking about the focus points present in the viewfinder? yeah... theni agree..350d has 2 more focus points than d70s.

ahaha i've been reading sommore online, and now, they say d70s is old technooloogy...like the ken rockwell guy, he rather go for d40.

Read more then.... then decide decide decide, D40x comes out, ppl say d40x is better, then you read read read, whoa, D3x comes out, it's better somemore... you read and decide whether you want to buy or not, read read read, then cheaper than D3x body comes out, D80h, ...

but for Nikon D80 and D40 onwards,
the AWB has improved alot

350d has a 0.85 magnification while the the d70s only has a 0.75 one.

there are advantages of the d40 over the d70s, primarily to do with image processing. what it lacks in is a 3 point af, no af for non af-s lenses.

anyway... i LOVE nikon... i LOVE sharp... i LOVE darkside... i LOVE grey but not white... i LOVE err... i LOVE pay less get more...

got budget get la D80, D80 jiao D70s and 350D ma...

actually there is nothing wrong with the d70s white balance. u go get 1 and i teach u how to set the WB. the most accurate way. not from PP or cs2. but from the camera itself yes u may say the D70s WB is inacurate if u use auto WB.

clemong, thanks for feedback. mangnification, i have read about. but i was more concerend abotu the clarity/ brightness of the viewfinder, apparently pentaprism is mroe uber than pentamirror heh.. im' just 'vomitting' out what i read.

she got a really really really good price for it. think below RM3000. DON"T ask me how much, coz, i'd get ppl in trouble.

but yeah, it's nice to see the 400D and it's nice to get to play with her d70s. effectively, i've got two new cameras
