Yeah that's the fun part
I play quite a while as well since PS2 days, but only got serious on PSP.
Don't think it will be much of an issue, bunch of cheaters on 3DS as well, but I was still having fun.

If most of the time i play solo, will it be fun enough?

Only IF you have the drive to hunt gears, then it's okay to play solo. MH is repetitive af I tell you.

Solo is more challenging at first, but after you get the hang of things it's pretty easy. You can play solo if you want, the monsters are still fun that way.

Also you can just join randoms at any time, or when you are playing solo, you find a certain monster hard and need help.. you can just call for help and people will join in to hunt with you. It's more fun to play with a group tho, but I know some who plays solo most of the time and clocked like 500 hours or more as well, all the depending on the individual in the end.

I think for PC version of the crossover is probably at a later time
