what's wrong with maining hunting horn?

why every room i join, even low rank ones would kick me when they saw my 'trumpet'
*
Unfortunately for you, that person must be stupid for kicking you.
I play a lot of HH, so far haven't experienced anything like that at all.

QUOTE(Odinn @ Jun 7 2018, 04:37 PM)
Probably think you are either bad at buffing or won't buff at all. Have only played a couple of times with hh users and I could see a difference when they are good at managing their responsibilities.

I don’t use the Hunting Horn a lot but have no such experience of being kicked from quest or session.

But I do know of few instances where in quest a HH user only swings at the air while standing a big distance away from monster.  And the leader usually will kick ppl like this

The good hunting horn player would go close and deal some damage while buffing. I've meet some really good HH player. Kinda bad tho for those who just kick lol
*
Misconception here. Yes, the ideal part is to deal damages while buffing, but there are self buffs that HH users need to do for themselves in order to deal the best damages for the main buffs later. Just because a HH user is standing aside buffing doesn't mean he/she is bad. They could be doing the self buff. Also self buffing is to ensure that they deal higher damages, attacks won't bounce, and run faster & etc for later. And for some monsters like ATK, you need to keep the buffs up all the time and there are no a lot of windows for you to play the song while dealing damages, thus standing aside to keep the buffs up for all the other players!

Those people who kick HH users just because they are standing aside to buff? At least they are buffing, I have seen plenty of other weapons who are just purely leeching. A good HH user is someone who knows which horns to bring for different situations to help and support the team the best, and able to keep up the buffs up! Dealing damages in a team is definitely a welcome bonus! But when you are a team, your buffs help players to push through, kill faster, and survive better!

Yeah can see how some people unfamiliar with it will be quick to judge them. Been trying it myself these past few days and still trying to get used to applying combos while attacking. Looks a fun weapon but wish the music played would have more variety. The drummings all sound the same..
I would recommend trying a different weapon type, either ranged, defensive or hard hitter. Switch axe, longsword, glaive are the fast melee dps which operates similarly to me. Just different attack patterns.

Try greatsword or heavy bowgun for a completely new experience.

Different sounds for different horns actually. hehe.

i'm not sure about the reason behind all those preemptive kicking i had encountered, probably because i'm only HR14 (low ranking because i started late last month, played on and off along with other hobbies and due to work) and my total usage of hunting horn isn't even reaching 100 (that's also total quests and investigations i done so far); as for those kicks happened in rooms hosted by hunters whose rank is lower than me, probably due to my sub par defense (lv4 pink rathian beta set, about 300 def)?

so far i'd only managed to party twice (with friend who had concern of me with zora, then later nergi fights) and often times i feel reluctant to join other people's room (once being in a room full of ang-mohs but no one taking any quests, and the rest were just kicks).

from what i discovered from using hunting horn is the increase attack output and move fluency compared to previous mh series. the buffing move still locks player up with animation, but kaput-con added hunting horn to trigger additional damage (and exhaust/ stun?) during buff, if the horn is close to the monster. the complain about hunting horn having slow attack speed (and long swing animation) is actually offset by it's reach and wide swings. also, it's the 2nd weapon which won't bounce when hitting hard points (first one being hammer)

comes to think of it, the kicks i experienced probably be attributed to hunting horn's wide swing arc and the hunting horn pound? but that would mostly contributed to bad positioning (and from experience, 80% would just do their combos at places where better suited by hammer/ hunting horn/ lance/ gunlance, which is head area), plus for other players tripping them off their combos are always bad but everything is fine when they trip other players

** note: i mostly main hammer in other series, except for mh3g where i spent time using lance and with mhw where i exclusively use hunting horn...
*
Hmm that's kind weird. I have never experienced anything like this before. Though like you mentioned, lower rank? When i was at that rank I mostly soloed everything, maybe if I did join people's quest then I might get kicked. At that level I don't think defense matters that much as long as you can survive. I was wearing the randomest thing ever.

try joining sos Arc Temper Vaal Hazak. super Nightmare. lol

I never do that. Solo is better, takes time and focus but at least not so frustrated.

Otherwise join a group of friends so that everyone can do it over and over until it gets killed. And more coordination as well. Can take turns to place the health booster because the ticking damage from the gas is quite taxing.

i see alot ppl sellling in carousell saying this game is not for them.. is this game difficult to pick up ? not a MH player before

Well, I was one of them who sold my copy. I did spend 300 hours in it. It's not difficult. But it's just grindy and even with the new contents update, i get bored after a while, like more hunting and hunting and hunting. I love games with story lines and characters that move me. To each of its own. It's still enjoyable though, I enjoyed trying out all the weapons and when you found one that suits your play style then it's quite fun. But i see most of the players who say is because they found a group of friends to hunt with.

waaahhh... The game sounds extremely grindy. Has it become harder with the Iceborne? I left this game after Lunastra and even back then I found it extremely time-consuming.

yes, I saw everyone rise their MR so fast. I was just reached MR111 last night but most of them above MR150. Some of them their name turned to yellow after reached to MR200 (i'm still with purple name).

I have no time to play in the morning time because I need to go for work. My only free time is night time after came back from work or public holiday and Sunday. Every night I play until 2am. Then wake up at 6.20am in the morning then go to work. Usually I can't get enough sleep, so I just take a nap in the office when boss was went out.

If you say you want to hunt the monsters in master rank with your previous high rank weapons and armors. Sure it will quite difficult because your attack and defense are still too low. Therefore, you need to repeatedly farm the specific monster several times to collect enough materials. To make yourself a master rank weapon and armor as fast as possible in order to advance to next mission. After you equipped with full set of master rank weapon and armor, you will feel yourself is much more stronger and will feel much more comfortable to hunt the monsters in master rank.

You can reach to more than 900+ defense in master rank, if you play with hunting horn. Your defense can reach up to 1100+ after buff and drink defense boost. Since hunting horn is a healer, you should get speed eating lv3. With a defense of 1100+ and speed eating lv3. You will find that the monsters usually are hardly to kill you.

Some armors in in master rank can even boost up your skill to higher level, for example "Free Meal" previously got only 1 level. Now in iceborne DLC, the master rank armor can boost your "Free Meal" to lv. 3. Therefore you can get 75% chance to consume a free potion. Another skill such like "Slugger", previously is lv3 but now with master rank can boost up to lv 5. So if you are holding hammer, you can stun the monster much easier with slugger lv5.

Thanks for the explanation, i really appreciate it. lol! When i was playing, I mained a hunting horn. And i think when I left the game after defeating Lunastra, I was about RANK 120++. lol. I left cause it was so grindy!!

Word of advice though, you shouldn't sacrifice your sleep just for a game, it will kill your enjoyment because you will be too tired to concentrate!
