QUOTE(Moogle Stiltzkin @ Jun 24 2021, 05:36 PM) i was seriously considering ledger. although the hardware is secure, i did not like how they leak their customer details. so personally i avoid dealing with this company that already failed to protect their customer info I briefly look at the recovery "frequently asked question for ledger" "basically, when you lose access to the hard wallet, you have to buy another hard wallet or any soft wallet that supports 24 word recovery" Because people know your name, where you live, and that you own crypto...... Think i am paranoid? just recently a guy doge millionaire was raped after a girl found out he had crypto and tried to get him to impregnate her at gunpoint.... I looked at Trezor i like it. You can also do quirky (not rely relevant stuff) like add a doge picture to your screen Then i read that for smartphone you got exodus. And it supports for use with a Trezor. I like the convenience of this able to check on your crypto from your smartphone but still having the security of a hardware wallet close at hand there's also a guide here for transfering to exodus from binance https://support.exodus.com/article/1529-bin...us-step-by-step This is an excellent intro and guide for using Trezor, you should check it if you buy these hardware wallets buy from the official online store. If you go to their website, they also have the local OFFICIAL resellers, so you can use that (don't buy some shopee/lazada from random unknown sellers. you never know whether they tampered with it or something). I don't know whether if you buy overseas whether it will get held at customs (it's a bit of a hassle to deal with customs but is doable online, i've done it before), so to save the hassle you can purchase from official resellers locally as listed on the official website anyway to my understanding, if your crypto is stored on the hardware wallet, even if it gets destroyed or stolen, you can still recover your crypto by using your seed phrases. Using seed phrases, i believe you use it on a new trezor (or in your case, ledger) then it will recover your crypto, and lock out the old device? (correct me if am wrong here Anyone who picks up your hard wallet cannot transact with it, unless they know your pin. As for how do you wipe the lost hard wallet, three pin tries - and the wallet self reset to factory. Really, need to just get a phone that we dont do other shit if we are keeping significant amount of bitcoin. 1. lost your hardware wallet = get new wallet and setup new recovery. 2. lost your pin. - after three tries- you need to break out from storage your recovery phrases X24 and re-setup your hard wallet 3. lost your recovery phrase - this one requires you to transfer out of wallet, if you still have pin access, then followed by redoing wallet. |

QUOTE(Moogle Stiltzkin @ Jun 24 2021, 06:31 PM) ok so, say the ledger is broke or stolen. so u get replacement ledger, enter seed phrases. then now what do you do this point? especially if someone else potentially has your lost ledger. If it's broken just get a replacement. If it's lost or stolen, just in case some l33t haxor has it, immediately transfer out everything to new addresses, usually using a software wallet."crypto cuban crisis". Also called Attack on TITAN. 0) If someone steals your ledger/trezor, your private key for wallet 0x1... is compromised . 1) Import the old seed phrase for 0x1 into a software wallet to transfer out your coins. 2) If you have a spare hardware wallet on hand, generate a new seed, transfer your coins there (0x2), and that's that. 2a) Otherwise use a software wallet temporarily (0x2a), till a new hardware wallet (0x3) arrives. https://www.investopedia.com/terms/b/bitcoin-wallet.asp A bitcoin or eth account is a private(seed phrase)+public(address) key pair. A hardware or software wallet is like a web browser, that has the private key that can authorize transactions on the blockchain. There are no coins "inside" your trezor, ledger, exodus, metamask, phone, pc, etc. Just the private keys. When you enter a private key into a wallet, there's no function in eth or btc that reports it's been used. You can generate a new wallet offline, even using pen and paper. Only notice you get is when your coins disappear. If a seed phrase or private key is leaked or compromised, then never reuse that address. Paranoid people (or people selling hardware wallets) would say that if a private key is on a device connected to the internet even for a second, then it's compromised. QUOTE(Moogle Stiltzkin @ Jun 24 2021, 08:50 PM) oo so basically you can recover using the seed phrase on the software wallet directly e.g. exodus on smartphone. i did not know this Lost your wallet.so i guess, once you recover to the new software wallet, it will invalidated the old one? I think i understand now, ty very much sir *** still have seed phrase. transfer out the balance to a temporary "exchange" and then buy a new wallet and create a brand new seed phrase... pls dont reuse. Transfer back from temp "exchange or wallet" This post has been edited by skywardsword: Jun 24 2021, 09:29 PM Moogle Stiltzkin liked this post

It's gone, bebeh. For *some* people, keeping it on an exchange is better. With Binance you can reset the password and 2fa using just the email. This post has been edited by halim867: Jun 24 2021, 10:12 PM Moogle Stiltzkin and teikboon liked this post
